Curious what are CF members favorite music genres?

As for me I listen to black metal music the most often. Fits my personality and mood. Rough, coarse vocals with lots of distortion. Some of the music is quite beautiful.

Besides that, I love grunge and folk music from the 1960s and 70s.

Mostly country. The older stuff more than the modern. Also into 50's doo-wop and some classic rock. I also enjoy that 60's and 70's folk you mentioned.

Pretty much every genre has at least a few songs in it that I like. Even rap, metal, and classical, which I don't generally prefer.

I have two - classical and a sub-genre of underground hip-hop...that doesn't really have a name.

I have tried searching the name for years to find out what it is. I have had to rely on recommendations on Youtube to find similar artists. It is very mellow, instrumental (for the most part), and melodic. There are some elements of jazz in some songs, but it is very distinct from lofi and trip-hop. Most of the producers I listen to are Polish and Japanese. Here are some songs for a taste if anyone is interested in helping me out.

Blazo - Little Piano
Raujika - Bamboo
Kondor - Bridge Over the Stars
Shin-Ski - Fomalhaut
Nujabes - Eternal Reflection
Blazo - Flute Story
Ayur - Children of the Earth
DJ Okawari - Flower Dance

It all began when I accidentally stumbled upon a Japanese artist from Hokkaido called Michita. Here is a few of the earliest songs I heard years ago.

Allegro
Yukar

While not listed as part of my favorite music genres (not even sure what they would be listed under.. lol), I do love Depeche Mode. Probably one of the few groups I actually value overall. For their aesthetics, lyrics, music the whole package.

For Laz...

I've listened to a LOT of classical music, but it is the Italian Baroque that I especially love.

I love the folk music of all seven, or eight depending on how you count them, Celtic nations, including Galicia and Nova Scotia.

For that matter I just adore European and Canadian folk, especially from Scandinavia.

...and I'm beginning to like jazz.

I feel stupid writing 'world music' because that's a dumb term that makes it sound like the rest of the world produces one type of music by virtue of it usually not being in English, and also I hate all of the stuff that originally got associated with that like Paul Simon's "Graceland" album (Simon and Garfunkel were mostly wonderful, but "Graceland" and a lot of his other solo stuff sucks) or Enya, but basically that. When it's the rest of the world vs. the English-speaking world (and usually only just a few parts of it; when's the last time an English-speaking artist from, say, South Africa got any global acclaim? Dave Matthews Band c. 1993 or whenever, maybe?), I gotta go with the rest of the world. There's just more stuff in it, and it's usually more interesting than whatever gets foisted on the rest of the world from the USA/UK/Australia.

I got two different modes depending on what I'm trying to do.

1) Alternative Rock

2) Ancient Christian Chant

Oh. I figured the OP was asking about secular music. If we can include hymns, then hymns instead. Hymns over everything else.

Any music counts.

Agreed. One of my pet peeves is looking in the "World Music" section of a record store, and finding mostly Latino and Reggae. There's a whole world beyond those - I listen to Tuvan throat singing, Norwegian country and Russian bluegrass. I don't mean the above to diss Latino and/or Reggae, btw.

Oh, okay. Then hymns first, then world music, then blues, folk, rock, jazz, country...the only stuff I can't really warm up to in any appreciable way so far is electronic dance music. I'm sure there are a lot of cool sounds being made in that genre (?), but it just seems like disco updated for people who prefer ecstasy to cocaine, but I don't like any drugs, so it just sounds like a broken answering machine trying to mate with a heart monitor to me. Sorry to anyone out there who likes that stuff. More for you to enjoy, then.

In terms of Christian music, I prefer Southern Gospel over contemporary style. I suppose that ties in with my taste in secular music, since Southern Gospel is very similar to country. I like most of the traditional hymns, but not all of them. And I don't dislike modern worship music. It's just not what I would pick.

I had a pastor that liked to play country music in the car, I was OK with country music for a few minutes, but its appeal waned for me after a while.

I realise I am weird but I have never been fond of any sort of music. I tolerate classical music as my husband likes it.

Aw, that's sad. I find such joy with music. My life would be significantly worse without it.
