You'll probably find one from an Asian grocery store. Root beer is not Asian but they love it enough, they had local brands of root beer.

Root beer is simply just a different flavored soda pop, it is non alcoholic, just like ginger ale.

I love root beer enough if someone gave me one, I'll drink it!

asians do have a drink similar to root beer as well. :)

I was at the dollar store with the dilemma of what hurricane beverage to buy to get me through the storm, it was between Root beer and Root beer.

Seriously, it was between A&W and the usually lousy Clover Valley store brand. I opted for the store brand because I could get so much more for the money, also the "Hey, one never knows until they try" factor. It was surprisingly ok-ish, but next time it's A&W. I'll have to try Barques again, guess I'm an A&W man because of the A&W drive-in's we used to go to as a kid. I'm actually on Sprite for the last several years but it appears my mind can easily be changed.

As a kid at a boarding school in Ky someone had me taste the Sassafras root, I was amazed how flavorful, and how much it tasted like root beer, which would make sense since it is the main flavor ingredient for RB.

I won't be making my own any time soon though. I'm still trying to figure out how someone knew to take something as foul tasting as straight cola, (no carbonation) and add carbonation and a little sugar to make a 20th century beverage marvel. Them guys is good at what they do. Wait a sec, maybe it wasn't the "cola" part that gave it such a leg up in sales and got it off the ground, but the Coca.

Were we tricked into liking Coca Cola?

I didn't know we had a root beer thread. ^_^

I haven't had root beer in awhile, especially the A&W brand. However, y'all have convinced me to try it again and see what I've been missing. :eheh:

I now want a root beer float. I like A&W cream soda, too. I haven't had one in a long time.

Root beer floats are good. Haven't had one in ages.. remember having them in elementary school.

When I wrote that post I told myself I was going to stop by the store on the way home and pick up some root beer. I have ice-cream. But, did I remember to stop? No. I wonder how it occurred to someone to put those two together?

Probably some off the cuff food testing during some food fight in the 1930s, lol..

Good call. You're right.

"You can thank Frank. J. Wisner, owner of Colorado’s Cripple Creek Brewing, who created the first root beer float on Aug. 19, 1893. The once-in-a-lifetime idea was born when Wisner noticed that the snowy peaks on Colorado’s Cow Mountain looked like ice cream floating in soda."

It used to be called a "Black Cow"
