I know that 95% of the posters here on CF will disagree with me. Nevertheless, it is time to take a stand. Every Governor in a state where this happens needs to initiate a campaign to curb bullying in schools. A study was done of these incidents recently and it was determined, as if we did not already know, that bullying was a factor in most of the cases. If an anti-bullying campaign might only save a few lives, it will still be worth it.

Yesterday was World Kindness Day. It was one of many events throughout the school year that are a part of the anti-bullying campaign. Ironically, that is part of Melania Trump's platform as First Lady.

We don't know if bullying was a factor in this shooting yet.

A friend from my real life who is sporadically a member of this forum (Cimorene) has shared about how her sister was traumatized by a school shooting when their family lived in Washington. It prompted the family to move to Canada, where they have been at peace. The 15-year-old perpetrator of that shooting was popular, a football player and wrestler considered to be happy and nice. He was not the victim of bullying. He'd literally just won a popularity contest. Shortly before the shooting he'd been crowned homecoming prince, which was given to the boy with the most votes in the class. It wasn't a joke or an irony, it was sincere. He was genuinely regarded as friendly and fun. When he texted his friends and invited them to sit with him at lunch, they agreed. Then he came up to them, provoked an argument, and shot them. He murdered four kids and shot himself before he could be apprehended, so he could never in any way answer as to why. The only known reasons for him being upset is that a girl he liked turned him down and was dating his cousin instead. Most incidents of puppy love and heartbreak don't end with a rabid bulldog response of a shooting rampage. He used his father's gun.

Unless you hunt, are part of an organised club or a member of the armed forces, then you do >>NOT<< need a gun. For anything, ever.

I love you America - I visit regularly, but as your cousin I have to tell you that you're incredibly stupid sometimes. Tighten up on that paperwork and stop being so sentimental about constitutions.

Good luck with that. it is unseemly to even suggest such a thing.

There is widespread support among Americans — Democrats, Republicans and gun owners alike — for a number of initiatives to curb gun violence they would like to see Congress pass, according to a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll.

The toxic manipulation and influence of the NRA is, in my view, far more at fault than the selective sentimentality about rights, though you absolutely do have a point. The NRA exploits that sentimentality.

There are strenuous efforts to prevent gun violence. There had been progress made in America, but much of it was then undone.

It's tragically ironic that the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence is having their Action Awards tonight to honor those who've meaningfully advocated for reform to end the epidemic, when today we're mourning yet another school shooting in our country.

These strenuous efforts include many nonsensical things that have been shown to end up in abuse. Red Flag Laws are a perfect example, and the latest in those attempts. Taking away someone's property because of an accusation and then making someone go to court and prove to a judge that they should be allowed to have their own property back is not how our legal system works. However, if that becomes the new way of things, then a person could have his car taken from him and then have to explain to a judge why he should be allowed to have it back, just because someone made the assertion that this person might go to a bar, get drunk and then drive intoxicated.
