Common good capitalism is about a vibrant and growing free market. But it is also about harnessing and channeling that growth to the benefit of our country, our people, and our society. Because after all, our nation does not exist to serve the interests of the market. The market exists to serve our nation and our people. Adapted from remarks delivered at the Busch School of Business at the Catholic University of America.

I support just about anything that ensures that everybody gets a chance to be their best selves and an opportunity to rise up.

That attitude has resulted in me being called a "socialist" by people who think Fortune 20 companies deserve huge welfare benefits from the government.
I don't think a lot of people really understand the label: 'socialism.'

Personal responsibilities and duties of the most fortunate in society to the less fortunate in society to also have opportunity and services in life does not equal the form of socialism they are thinking of.

To be fair, America has been socialist in degrees since at least the 1930's. Socialism can take a wide variety of forms.

The reality is that everybody is a capitalist until their issue(s) of choice comes along. Then the socialist comes out.

In truth, a purely capitalistic system is probably a very unpleasant place to live. In the final analysis, profit is fine in its place. But profit is never more important than people. We are humans; not walking revenue-generators.
