S. GREGORY goes on to say 'that everything (ta panta) shall be subdued to Christ, and they shall be subdued by a full knowledge (epignosis) of Him, and by a remodeling * * Now God will be All in All at the time of restitution. "- Or. xxxvi.

Christ Triumphant by Thomas Allin chapter four (emphasis mine)

S. STEVEN goes on to say...

Colossians 1:20
and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

It's always great to find yourself walking the path of Christ with your namesake from antiquity. It's the divine sense of humour at work to encourage and harmonise, I believe.

I should clarify that the "humour" was adding the "S." (Saint) to the beginning of my username. Thus creating a seeming namesake. But perhaps you are making reference to S. Stephen the martyr in Acts chapter seven.

Acts 7:54-56
When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

Off the subject, but this reminds me of a visual that came to me on Sunday morning as we gathered for prayer. The brother next to me was lamenting about the deeds he wanted to accompany his faith. Quoting James, "faith without works is dead." As we went to pray a visual came to me.

I imagined sitting in an automobile driver's seat. I could there understand that the windshield (windscreen) represented faith, the view ahead of us. And the rearview mirror was where the works were seen, in retrospect. Therefore, it is not for us to look forward through the windshield to "find" (create through the flesh - wood, hay, stubble) works to do, but rather to realize after the fact that they were the works God had led us to by our life of faith. Therefore, if we put the automobile in drive, the works will appear along the way. Those are the works (gold, silver, precious stones) we should be about.

What does to reconcile mean?

To reconcile=

Definition of RECONCILE

To reconcile= katallagé =

From katallasso; exchange/ adjustment.

To change from enmity to friendship, to reconcile.

"It is in Him, and through the shedding of His blood, that we have our deliverance--the forgiveness of our offences--so abundant was God's grace, the grace which He, the possessor of all wisdom and understanding, lavished upon us, when He made known to us the secret of His will. And this is in harmony with God's merciful purpose for the government of the world when the times are ripe for it--the purpose which He has cherished in His own mind of restoring the whole creation to find its one Head in Christ; yes, things in Heaven and things on earth, to find their one Head in Him. And you..."

All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. (2 Cor 5:18-19)

Ministry = diakonia

Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 1248: διακονία

διακονία, διακονίας, ἡ (διάκονος) (from Thucydides, Plato down), service, ministering, especially of those who execute the commands of others;
1. universally: 2 Timothy 4:11; Hebrews 1:14.
Strong's Greek: 1248. διακονία (diakonia) -- service, ministry

For our service is to preach the message that God reconciles the whole world to Him in Christ.

Interesting visual S S.
Brings to mind a favorite verse and classic song of mine:

Roger Hodgson co-founded Supertramp in 1969 and was the driving force behind what fans call the 14 golden years of the band. He wrote, sang, and arranged the enduring rock standards that made Supertramp a worldwide phenomenon with album sales in excess of 60 million. Roger not only gave us “Child of Vision,” but also other timeless classics

Rapture refuted

History records few events more generally interesting than the destruction of Jerusalem, and the subversion of the Jewish state, by the arms of the Romans. -- Their intimate connexion with the dissolution of the Levitical economy, and the establishment of Christianity in the world ; the striking verification which they afford of so many of the prophecies, both of the Old and New Testament, and the powerful arguments of the divine authority of the Scriptures which are thence derived ;

Of the Jews destroyed during the siege, Josephus reckons not less than ONE MILLION AND ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND, to which must be added, above TWO-HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SEVEN THOUSAND who perished in other places, and innumerable multitudes who were swept away by famine, and pestilence, and of which no calculation could be made. Not less than two thousand laid violent hands upon themselves

My friend Shrewd: Our Father has a Plan. It starts in Him, it ends in Him. In that mighty Plan of His is the working of reconciliation. Broken and bruised wrecks of Adam1 are brought to His point of view, radically transformed from crawling creatures into heavenly by the working of metmorphoo.

The way for all is through the fires, for fire is the great uniter and reconciler of all things; and things which without fire can never be united, in and through the fire are changed and become one.

Therefore every coming of Christ, even in grace, is a day of judgment. Therefore there are fires even for the elect both now, (1 Pet. 1:7, and 4: 12) and in the coming day; (1 Cor. 3:. 13, 15.) for “our God is a consuming fire;” (Heb. 12: 29.) and to dwell in Him we must have a life, which, because it is of the fire, for fire burns not fire, can stand unhurt in it.

Therefore our Lord “came to cast fire into the earth,” and desired nothing more than “that it should be already kindled;” (S. Luke 12: 49) therefore He says,

Mark 9: 49

For this is the very “baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire,” (Matt. 3: 11) that “spirit of judgment and burning,” promised by the prophet, "with which the Lord shall purge away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and cleanse the blood of Jerusalem; after which He will create on every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and on all her assemblies, a cloud of smoke by day, and the brightness of flame of fire by night; and upon all, the glory shall be a defense; (Isa. 4: 4, 5) for “He is like a refiner’s fire, and like a fuller’s soap; and He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and He shall purify the sons of Levi as gold and silver are purged, that they may offer to the Lord an offering of righteousness.” (Mal. 3: 3). And as by the hidden fire of this present life, shut up in these bodies of corruption, we are able by the wondrous chemistry of nature through corruption to change the fruits and flesh of the earth into our blood, and from blood again into our flesh and bone and sinew; so by the fire of God can we be changed, and made partakers of Christ’s flesh and blood. In and through Christ we have received this transmutation; (Rom. 5: 11) and through His Spirit, which is fire, is this same change accomplished in us.

NOTE:

Numbers 28: 6. By this double sense a veil covers the letter, veiling yet revealing God’s purpose; for His purpose to the creature is through destruction to perfect it, and by fire to make it a bride unto the Lord. For a kindred reason some of the angels are called Seraphim, that is burning ones; for like the Lord, whose throne is flames of fire, (Dan. 7: 9,10.) they also are as fire; as it is written, “He makes His angels spirits, His messengers a flame of fire.” (Heb. 1: 7, and Psalm 104:4)

And as with the first-fruits, so with the harvest. The world to be saved must some day know the same baptism. For “the Lord will come with fire,” and “by fire and by His sword will He plead with all flesh, and the slain of the Lord shall be many.” (Isa. 66: 15, 16.) The promised baptism or outpouring of the Spirit must be judgment, for the Spirit cannot be poured on man without consuming this flesh to quicken a better life;

NOTE:

James 1: 20) works both righteousness and life, and is set forth in that “warfare of the service of the tabernacle” (See Numbers 4: 23, 30, and 8: 24, 25; margin: and compare 1 Tim. 1: eighteen) by which that which was of the earth was made to ascend to God through fire a sweet sacrifice.

Nice punchy no-nonsense message. If faith is a gift from God, we should all simply accept it and say 'Thanks to you Father, I have the utmost faith in you'.

Jesus, God's salvation, is perfect. Salvation is perfected in Christ. For who can stand in the day of the Lord. All will kneel before Him and...

They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it. (Ps 22:31)

The Scope Of Restitution=

"But (now) to each one of us was (is) given the Grace down from (in accord with) the measure of the undeserved gift of the Christ. For this reason He (it) is constantly saying, “Going up (stepping up; ascending) into a height (unto [the] summit) He led (leads) captive a captive multitude [or: He led “captivity” captive] He gave (gives) gifts to mankind (or: to/for the men).” Now (but) this “He went up (ascended),” what is it if not (except) that He also descended (stepped down) into the lower parts (the under regions) of the earth (land)? The One stepping down (descending) is Himself also the One stepping (going) up (ascending) far above (back up over) all of the heavens, to the end that He may make the Whole full [or: may fill up everything (the All)]. -Jonathan Mitchell N.T.-

Weymouth New Testament Bible

Read the Weymouth New Testament Free Online

“There is but one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, who rules over all, acts through all, and dwells in all. Yet to each of us individually grace was given, measured out with the munificence of Christ. For this reason Scripture says: ‘He re-ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, and gave gifts to men.’ (Now this ‘re-ascended’ --what does it mean but that He had first descended into the lower regions of the earth? He who descended is the same as He who ascended again far above all the Heavens in order to fill the universe.”

Note:

He will fill the Universe (everything)!

“For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was in preparation, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved thru water…Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead…for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.”

What is this word "munificence" which I have never before seen? (bold above)

"Yet to each of us individually grace was given, measured out with the munificence of Christ." Definition below.

The common creed (Damnationism) views grace as given out sparingly, only to a select few. Withheld from the majority. But this scriptures indicates the liberality, the extraordinary and lavish bounty that is spread thick and generously. Brimming and overflowing, running free, uncontained. Messy grace spilling everywhere without apology. We'll need to mop up the overflow.

The whole pitcher of grace for us poured into our cup, running across the table and dripping on the floor. Uncontainable, the virtual flood of grace. Like a tsunami for the thirsty. Best bring your surfboard.
