All over the world police brutality has become a common complaint including in Jamaica.
It is clear that Donald Trump supports the police, but the reason he supports the police is not because he is racist. He respects the position that police themselves have, and the good they are doing including risking their lives to save and keep people safe everyday.
Every single case of police brutality needs to be examined individually and independently. From videos I have seen, some of them shows police seemingly using excessive force, at the same time there are videos where civilians are caught seemingly committing terrible crimes. Oftentimes these videos do not show the entire encounter between the police and civilians, only parts, which can skew a person's perception of what actually took place.
I do believe that there are cops who are racist and use excessive force against African Americans and others, at the same time the crime in rate in certain black communities remain a serious problem. There are clearly problems on both sides that needs to be dealt with.
What I Have Seen
I have seen videos of police brutality beating and restraining African Americans and others who are clearly subdued and do not require use of such excessive force.
I have also seen videos of African Americans mobbing businesses for example about 50 or more young people go in a store at the same time and steal everything they can.
In the middle of all this, any negative confrontation between police and African American is seen immediately as a racial attack by some, while others support the excessive use of force against African American persons because crime in black communities are high, and any confrontation between the police and African Americans are seen automatically as a fault of African Americans.
Both Sides
Unless both sides admit there is a problem and works towards fixing it together, nothing will improve substantially.
