To make a long story short, I get invasive thoughts, and in them, and/or while trying to counteract them, I have insulted or rejected the Holy Spirit. I do not remember if I have ever done it verbally, and if so, it must have been in a past episode of these thoughts rising up. Tonight, after a particularly tough day with them, I have had trouble "getting into" my Bible and I feel as though I just do not care about... well, anything. Everything I've read online assures me I have not committed the unforgivable sin, but they all give different reasons and to be honest, some of them are from questionable sites/people. So basically, I want you to tell me what the unforgivable sin/blaspheming the Holy Spirit actually is, exactly, so I can work out if I have actually committed it. I'm praying for you to be guided, and I ask that you do the same and think on it a little while before answering this. Please, do be honest. Thank you.

I think this article will help you;
What Is the Unforgivable Sin?

Also, it's good to remember that invasive thoughts are not from you--in fact, they could very well be from either OCD, or satan trying to mess with you. God knows that, so just pray that he keeps them outta your head.

Jesus told the Pharisees they were in danger of this because they actually saw the miracles, knew they were from God, knew Jesus was doing the works of God and still were unbelieving.

We don’t live in 1st Century AD witnessing what they did, so no your invasive thoughts are not the unforgivable sin. The very fact you are aware and know these thoughts are wrong shows you know they are wrong.

In context, Lord Jesus calls the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit ascribing the power of the Holy Spirit to Satan. It helps to remember that everything that Lord Jesus did and said was as a Man. The perfect Son of God, yes, but also "the Last Adam". Christians who attribute miracles and the baptism of the Holy Spirit to Satan are on dangerous ground. Also, the "unforgivable" sin is only unforgivable while the sinful attitude remains. If a person has a change of heart, repents and confesses their sin, they will be forgiven. The fact that the idea bothers you is encouraging. People who deliberately blaspheme the Holy Spirit are unlikely to repent, and may be so far gone that they cannot repent.

God is in the heart business. Your heart is for Him. Turn your focus on Scripture such as these and let them minister to you:

- God loves you with an everlasting love (John 3:16-17, Jer 31)
- God promises to never leave you nor forsake you (Deu 31:6)
- The spirit of God made you, and the breath of the Almighty gives you life. Job 33:4
- you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psa 139:13-14)
-The Lord says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jer 29:11

- God is great, majestic, gracious, full of compassion, good to me, +++++ Psa 145

However, just this morning, when I felt the Holy Spirit in me again, I was almost positive it was the Spirit, but I had a thought that it might be a demon/demons, like the ones that have been tormenting me for months. I was immediately mortified and regretful, but I fear I might have actually done it now, even by what you say it is. Please ask for guidance and be honest when telling me if you think this is so.

I think there are too many people who do not understand what is meant by ‘Blaspheming the Holy Spirit’.

The Holy Spirit is, among other things:
  • The Spirit of Truth
Although it might seem really bad (and it is, in truth!) bring disparaging against Jesus or Yhwh, the Father, CAN BE FORGIVEN. Sincere repentance through Jesus Christ is allowed for to us as sinful beings. That is why Jesus Christ is our intercession: he ‘filters’ out sinfulness from us so God does not receive it; he is the gateway between man and God. We pray THROUGH him FOR FORGIVENESS from the Father (See model prayer from Jesus).

But, disparaging TRUTH... condemning TRUTH, and the Spirit of Truth... that is unforgivable.

GRIEVING Truth, grieving the Spirit of Truth, means speaking, thinking, doing, teaching... things that dispel truth to the extent that others ‘Believe the Lie’ is beyond redemption (can anyone put the fallacy genii back into the bottle?)

Can I now express a surprise? I am not trinitarian and find it so hard to believe that such a massive Scriptural warning as ‘Do not grieve the Holy Spirit’ does not resonate as reason to believe that the Holy Spirit is NOT A PERSON. How can a tri-person God, each person co-equal in all aspects, be parted (God is not composed of parts!) such that there is RANK ORDER between them (equality has no rank!!!) and two of the parts (Father and Son) can be blasphemed but the third (Holy Spirit person) cannot?

In truth, in reality, the Holy Spirit is ‘The Spirit of the Father’... scriptures tells us clearly that it is ‘HIS HOLY SPIRIT’ and thus is an emanating force (I’m not JW!).

God (aka, the Father, SENDS as a promise, his Holy Spirit as a gift to the disciples VIA JESUS.

Many people falsely believe that the Holy is the Spirit of Jesus (also). This belief comes from the false ideology of the interpretation of the verse involving ‘Spirit of Jesus’. The Holy Spirit is CALLED UPON by Jesus at all times to enable him to carry out his great works... ‘Father, I know you always hear me...!’ This is Jesus calling on his Father OPENLY for power from on high so that the people around can see and hear that the raising of Lazarus is FROM GOD and not of himself (Jesus). The apostles are later GIVEN ‘the Gift from the Father’ AT PENTECOST. The Holy Spirit, called upon by believing godly persons (at least of that time) and having the ability within them (each person has different ranges of abilities and thus different gifts from the Holy Spirit) can make use of such abilities but not to abuse those abilities: which is another ‘Grieve’ in itself, hence Phil 2 warns the apostles not to misuse their ‘Godly powers’ but rather to humble themselves even to death... (Don’t, for instance, call upon the spirit of truth to save you from bodily harm else others will claim belief just because of this! Or famously, ‘Physician, Heal thyself!’)

So, people, know the truth. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, is the Fathers holy Spirit. Beware of claiming falsehoods in the name of the Holy Spirit - you will, indeed, be grieving the Spirit of God (not one person part of God as would be extrapolated from belief in a tri-unity person God)

(Please can I ask any responders not to post quotes from Creeds or refer to external texts outside of the Christian scriptures. These references are pointless and purposeless as anyone can refer false references that are difficult to check and the authors cannot be questioned. We agree to accept the text from our singular common source: the Holy Scriptures, the holy bible. Thanks)
