Danica Roem has made history for a second time, by becoming the first out transgender person to win reelection to a state legislature. Roem, fighting anti-LGBTQ candidate Kelly McGinn in Virginia, emerged triumphant on Tuesday night, winning 56 per cent of the vote.

McGinn—whose anti-LGBTQ record included finding marriage equality “morally repugnant”—benefited from the support and donations of anti-LGBTQ conservative groups and their members in her campaign.

That's good news indeed for those of us who support LGBT rights. It means that the people of her district in Virginia were not persuaded by fear and bigotry.

This is typical of what I associate with Christianity, and reminds me of what William Blake wrote in his poem, The Garden of Love. The Garden of Love by William Blake

Christians are never satisfied unless they attack every human desire and replace it with their rigidly mechanistic and biologically reductionist view of life. In such a scheme, a transgender person is a wrench in the works to the Church of "Thou Shalt Not", a nail that must be hammered down and rebuked with the "Word of God".

Well, I'm not buying it. I've had enough of that sort of pompous bullying. All you do with the above use of your scriptures is prove how irrelevant it really is. I'll take love of my fellow human beings over such religion any day. I don't need your holy books promised certainties to find satisfaction and fulfillment in my life, and increasingly, neither do many younger people.

Its because people want to feel they are special.... that they get to be the ones to live through the glorious special times. I really do think theres a subtle egotism involved here.

Jude likened Sodom and Gomorrah and its surrounding towns to a warning of the post-Apocalypse Judgment:

God bears "with great patience the objects of wrath--prepared for destruction".--Romans 9:22

See what you want, I was responding to "I must’ve missed the part in Revelations where a trans mayor was a harbinger of the apocalypse." The Jude reference directly applies to the Revelation (and beyond) era.

I don't take Conservative Christianity seriously anymore because so many conservatives faithfully support and defend a twice divorced thrice married adulterer, who bragged about how he would "grab a woman by her..." to grope her because he's a celebrity. Unlike some Christians, I don't refer to that disgusting bragging as locker room banter or macho talk. And that's not to mention Trump paying off a inappropriate content star to buy her silence about their affair while he was still campaigning for the presidency.

As for the article in the OP... as a supporter of LGBT rights, I'm pleased to finally see LGBT American citizens being better represented in the government. I think it's long overdue in our country.
