So I been listening to a lot hillsong, Bethel music etc. But I've been reading that these mega Christian bands have new age crept into some of their music. So does anyone have any recommendations for Christian music that doesnt have the possibility of having new age stuff in it. I'm 26 years old just lookin for decent music to listen to that is pleasing to the Lord that fits in this era of music.

A tough one. I'm 68 so my musical tastes reflect my age. I like many old hymns, classical music of Bach and Handel and modernised versions of old hymns. I'm listening to the Cathedrals at present. Some of the Martins is excellent as are the Isaacs. The reason why so many modern performers choose old hymns is because they say something edifying. Much of the modern songwriting is repetitive drivel. There are some really talented performers, as good as any worldly bands. But what are they singing? Nothing much, I'm sorry to say. You will note how much of modern songwriting focuses on "me". I will worship, praise blah blah. Not much about Lord Jesus, who He is and what he has done for us. Compare t hat with Charles Welsey, "And can it be?". Now that is a hymn that glorifies Jesus. So is "Oh for a thousand tongues". That will stir your heart, not just emotion.

I play guitar for our small group. We sing mostly 70's and 80's choruses. Music is powerful. It can be uplifting or can dampen the spirit. Too much of the latter these days, I regret to say.

I'm also having a very hard time finding Christian music. Bethel/Hillsong is everywhere! Unfortunately, the songs are great, meaning that they will be drawing in folks who have no idea about Christianity. I'm listening to music less now because discernment is wearing me out. :(

Just load up all of your past favorites on an MP3 player. AFAIK, you can legally add songs from CDs that you own.

Yeah it’s unfortunately the norm in Christian music today but that’s how they get you! First the music, then the teachings, it’s a gateway.

As per music, I totally recommend
Kings Kaleidoscope
Citizens
Rivers & Robots
Dc talk
Sovereign Grace Music
Ghost Ship
The Modern Post
Crowder
Petra
Stryper

just to name a few, be sure to check out the “good Christian music blog” as they constantly upload Christian music!

Wherever there's any enjoyable music, there will probably be some legalists who will condemn it as being New Age or Satanic. I'm not defending Hillsong, as they're not the genre I listen to recreationally and I am therefore unfamiliar with what they put out. I'm just pointing out the reality of criticism of music within the church. There are confessing Christians who declare that any music with a drumbeat is evil, or that any instrumental music at all is evil, or even if you remove both of those and just have someone rapping, that's evil too. These people will point to the teachings of Satanists about the devil's relation to music to bolster their view (apparently they can take that at face value from the father of lies and they don't see it as a problem). The jist of what I'm saying here is: Don't believe everything you read, and don't chase an unhealthy and unholy standard that is not Biblical.

Now, if anyone has actually written New Age stuff into their music, that should give you pause as to whether or not to enjoy it. But you have to be able to positively identify New Age stuff in their music first.
