11,000 scientists have finally come out with the underlying motive for climate change... population decrease. Do they think they can instill enough fear to self justify a reversal of population growth by any means necessary? Guess the infirmed and aged boomers better make out those wills.

Climate crisis: 11,000 scientists warn of ‘untold suffering’

The sheer size of the human population on our planet certainly is a factor in our present crisis. On the other hand, if we do nothing that population will be dramatically reduced with incredible human suffering.

Let's reduce the population of Africa and Asia?

Better to euthanize and sterilize?
If you are going to discuss a very serious topic, based on 11000 climate experts, a topic YOU started BTW, can you at least have the courtesy of quitting the sarcasm?

That won't work.

They would probably do such thing purely on the basis of contribution to economy (or having the potential) and if a wealthy person would vouch for your continued living.

Remember the god of this world is Mammon and everyone worships money.

People would surely resist and it will spark a war between the rich and the poor.

What is the motive behind a slow forming ideal, slow so that the people will more readily accept that motive in due time?

Then perhaps if extermination becomes necessary they will do it the way they have always wanted, the way it was often done, leaving a system of elite and peasants. Wars and disease don't destroy 5 billion. Turn off the electric power around the world for a month or two. About 75% of the population would die. Three types would be left. The elites who could afford to survive and pay for protection, the poor who can survive without power and would readily follow the powerful and would remain workers and consumers, and of course those who would kill anyone to survive which would make the perfect army for the elites. A more concentrated version of the world we have today.

The point is this is what they are working towards. If we as humans don't do it voluntarily, then drastic measures will be taken. And we will pay for it. Carbon tax anyone?

The document suggests that the method for reducing population is to make education, and family planning options available to populations in undeveloped nations. It emphasized gender equality. Developed nations have largely started reproducing below replacement levels by focusing on women in the workforce rather than being at home having and raising children. On the other hand they note that the carbon output is higher in developed nations.

By that rationale we should certainly start sending neo-colonial climate and gender equality missionaries to convert these uneducated masses to stop focusing on having children, and to put women into the workforce.

In the meantime all of us in developed nations have to give up meat, pay carbon taxes, and focus less on prosperity. So, the nations that have the most emissions should go tell those who have the least how to live. I imagine this will be overseen by the elite flying about to make sure we are compliant and paying our carbon taxes.

That should go well.

Poor people breed. Simple as that, just like out forefathers in the last century did in order to insure there was help to self sustain and so the family would survive. Sending women off to work where no one at all works but merely exists sounds nice on paper but it is not realistic except in practical situations. Eventually the declining numbers in the top tier of civilization will be overtaken by those struggling at the bottom. This population growth is certainly not a product of the well off and the well off will go to drastic measures to survive and maintain the civilization they have built once the profitable ways of population reduction prove useless..

I'm saying this is the thinking we are up against. And you can be assured the ones dreaming it up won;t be the ones it is directed at. Self preservation comes at someone else's expense.

I dont think that anybody is talking about exterminating anybody. All you are doing is trying to forment division by talking about extermination, euthanasia, sterilisation etc.

Having free access to birth control, rights for women, & sex education, especially in poorer countries would go a long way toward helping to slow population growth.

The fact is that the planet has finite resources & land area. Every additional human born adds additional stress to the planet, & leaves less & less room for other animals who inhabit the planet. At the rate we are going, the only animals that havent gone extinct will be farm animals, pets, & rodents such as rats & mice. I predict it wont be that long after that that human beings go extinct as well.

Every couple should limit themselves to 2 children maximum.

I usually envy christians for the fantastic world they live in, but threads like this make me feel a bit of pity.

Only a little bit, though.
What is the 'fantastic world' that Christians live in? Where is it? Are you saying they live in a different world to the one you are living in? What world are you living in?

You know, the one where there are demons and angels, where they can petition the creator of the universe to help find them a job or heal the cough of their child, where nothing is without reason and every wrong will be righted in the end.

Where something like this looks sensible and inspiring:

There isn't enough food to feed everyone as it is now, without using that OTHER evil conspiracy....GMO!!!'s, and even that might not be enough, but we got to keep having all those kids!!!. really depressing seeing how science can say, "We need to slow down were about to run off a cliff." while the religious and right are the ones cannonballing off it saying, "The cliff doesn't exist it's all a conspiracy."

Here is what the statement says on population:

World Scientists’ Warning of a Climate Emergency

Still increasing by roughly 80 million people per year, or more than 200,000 per day (figure 1a–b), the world population must be stabilized—and, ideally, gradually reduced—within a framework that ensures social integrity. There are proven and effective policies that strengthen human rights while lowering fertility rates and lessening the impacts of population growth on GHG emissions and biodiversity loss. These policies make family-planning services available to all people, remove barriers to their access and achieve full gender equity, including primary and secondary education as a global norm for all, especially girls and young women (Bongaarts and O’Neill 2018).

In the west rates of reproduction are already fairly low. The issue seems to be more prominent in less developed nations. If scientists have failed to convince the religious right, how will they convince the various people groups in these undeveloped nations?
