Graham says he won't read the Trump impeachment transcripts

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday that he wouldn’t read newly disclosed transcripts pertaining to a pair of witnesses in the House impeachment inquiry into President Trump, arguing that the process unfolding is "B.S."

"I've written the whole process off. ... I think this is a bunch of B.S.," Graham told CBS News when asked whether he would read transcripts of testimony from U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland and Kurt Volker, the former special envoy to Ukraine.

The comments from Graham came just hours after the House released revised testimony Sondland offered in which he acknowledged that Trump's dealings with Ukraine amounted to a quid pro quo.

Heaven forbid he might learn something and make an informed decision at Donald's impeachment...

My thoughts are that Graham has already shown his true colors as he went from originally condemning Trump for being unfit for office to being a yes man who is incredulous that others could think ill of Trump.

The Republicans aren't defending Trump on substance, they go after process and try to smear those who speak out against him. In fairness, there isn't much room to defend him on substance, but they do have the outrageous option of trying to restore their dignity and at least look at the facts.

Actually, it goes further back than that. Look at his comments from the Clinton Impeachment hearings, “You don’t even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job in this constitutional republic if this body determines that your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role. Impeachment is not about punishment. Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office.” Then compare them to his current comments on impeachment.

Did Lindsey Graham do a back flip? What would prompt him to strongly oppose Donald Trump previously, then love him now?
He's running for reelection in 2020 in a Trump state.

Money and/or threats -- the same thing Donald does to get most of his support.

Thoughts?

I can’t defend Graham’s commentary.

I can, however, address what, ostensibly, is being ignored, Trump’s proposed reasons for asking an investigation into Biden.

A president may, without abusing his power, ask a foreign power to investigate a domestic politician on the basis of having a reasonable belief the domestic politician acted improperly, illegally, etcetera.

I’ll cite to the following example of this in Politico: there have been occasional instances in which presidents would have been justified had they sought foreign investigations into political rivals. In 1804, Aaron Burr contacted the British government, apparently to peddle a plan for severing part of the United States to form a new country in western territory. In response, President Thomas Jefferson had Burr prosecuted for treason, and he was found not guilty. We can stipulate that Jefferson was excessively involved in the treason trial. But had he instead simply asked for Britain’s assistance in gathering more information about Burr’s involvement in this plot, that would have been entirely appropriate given the high stakes for the country.

This is true despite the fact Jefferson was seeking reelection at the time and Burr, an incorrigibly ambitious politician, might still have coveted the presidency.

Trump has said the appearance of impropriety, VP Biden insisting Ukraine remove the prosecutor or no chips for Ukraine, the same prosecutor investigating Burisma, a company in Ukraine in which his son sat on the board, merited an investigation. This, of course, may be a baseless and false narrative. But to rightfully impeach Trump, it needs to be shown Trump’s narrative for asking Ukraine to investigate is false and/or baseless.

We are all aware of Donald's stated reasons... which hinge on his credibility.

How's his credibility?

Well...the process is complete "B.S." As discussed in other threads, this was never about impeachment, justice, or finding truth. It was all a Democrat created political stunt in an attempt to win the white house in 2020. The Democrats know this. They even know the Republicans know this. The only people who doesn't seem to know this are the liberals who blindly support anyone who promises to destroy Trump.

That is the narrative and Donald's sticking to it... and so long as he can pay off or intimidate his followers, many of them will stick to it as well.

Exactly how many of them have been intimidated or bought off is a mystery we may never solve.

No, his reasons do not “hinge on his credibility.” For purposes of impeachment, something more substantial, palpable, is needed to show he has a false narrative other than “credibility.” And the argument he lied in the past he is therefore lying now is not a good argument, and it is not sufficient for impeachment.
