I was watching a video and the Youtuber said that the worse suffering for those in hell is the fact that they could have achieved heaven eternally. I think he quoted Thomas Aquinas so that's why I am asking if there is something like that in Orthodoxy?

Also, in the same video, there was a story of a man exorcising the devil and Satan says he regrets not "contemplating God's beauty" and if he could go through a pillar with barberwire (something like that ) to go to heaven for a few time he would do it.

Does the devil regret in Orthodoxy?

Thank you for your answer.

It is a special kind of bitter regret like a desperation - St. Isaac the Syrian puts it very well. (it wasn't Thomas Aquinas)

Satan says he regrets not "contemplating God's beauty" and if he could go through a pillar with barberwire (something like that ) to go to heaven for a few time he would do it.

No. Nope. Devil, being an (evil) angel, cannot repent. In fact this is the critical significance of death (for humans) or of the fall (for the angels).

regret that leads to proud despair

Like Judas. Unfortunately nowadays we are pretty accustomed with this type of behavior.

Thanks! So why angels can't experience repentance?

Nope. This is one of the main functions of our body: to provide the necessary humility needed to repent. No, we don't have the body in order to eat ice-cream. :) If you haven't, read the text from St. John of Damascus which I linked in the message you quoted.
Also be sure to read about the stages of our eternal lives.

being immaterial, they don't exist in a successive timeline. so when they sinned, they did it with the full knowledge of Who they were sinning against.

Does that mean there won't be future rebellious angels?

thanks for always sharing these links. They're always very beneficial to read even though I don't always understand everything. Sometimes it can be hard to know where to start reading to study the church fathers but I always think these are great

and the pictures are quite nice too :)

Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
Gen 6:7nd the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

God is Spirit and has not a body like man.

And how do you know that they do not exist in a successive timeline? A successive timeline is necessary for the completion of any action, from it's beginning to its end, such as singing. Without a timeline, there could be no movement from one note to the next. How can there be a heavenly chorus singing the praises of God is there is no successive timeline?

One more:

Exo 32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

that's not to be taken literally as God does not change.

as for the chorus, there can be no succession in the same way as the angels sing without air or vocal chords.

Do yo think The Trinity literally came down to see and went down?

I dont think he is. I believe that his true hell would be to serve God for all eternity. His pride and his selfish love for himself and evil makes him hateful and resentful not remorseful.
I'm not orthodox so I'm just tossing my own personal opinion on the table.

The quote of the devil was taken from a Catholic source.
