If Donald Trump is impeached (which is probable) there is no guarantee he will be acquitted in the Senate. Because he is a first-term president, no Republicans are running against him. How are Republican voters supposed to vote in the prmary election if Trump is thrown out of office?

Just FYI, Ballotpedia is tracking current and former elected officials and notable public figures who have entered the presidential race. As of November 2019, there are five notable Republicans running. (The Vice-President would probably run as well)

Perhaps republican contestants now will move to third party. Now that would be interesting

It seems to me that the only room for a viable third party is a democratic socialist party. The only other available niche is too hideous to contemplate --- fascism.

There are two other Republicans running against him, Walsh and Weld, maybe Sanford, too. But the RNC decided to back Trump back in Feb. which stinks because they don't get the chance to debate against Trump. Some states aren't even holding primaries and caucuses so those delegates will likely be pledged to Trump.

They were so eager to defeat the Democrats and Hillary that they sold their soul to the devil.

So Joe Walsh then?

You owe the Devil an apology. Give him a little credit... ;)

There were never supposed to be "republican" voters, or "democratic" voters, or what-the-hell-ever kind of voters, who always vote for a "party" instead of a or the "person" (running), etc...

That is part of what is so messed up about the entire system right now...

Why we have only two primary and diametrically opposed "sides", ruining this country and tearing it apart, etc... and that, if is allowed to continue, could cause it to collapse, etc... widespread corruption because of "it/this/that", etc...

It was never supposed to ever be that way, etc...

Maybe this will fix that maybe...?

God Bless!

Basically, in this scenario the delegates to the Republican Convention could vote for anyone they want, and you'd likely have a huge floor fight for the nomination.

If Donald Trump is removed from office, VP Mike Pence will be sworn in as President. Presumably, he'll be the front runner for the 2020 Republican nomination if he wishes to run. From what I've read, Mike Pence is more authentically conservative than Donald Trump. But--unless some monumentally damning evidence against Trump comes out--I don't see 20 Republican Senators voting with the 45 Democrats (and the 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats) to remove him from office.

Praise God!

Why would you praise God for people selling their souls to the devil?

Think about it: If Hillary Clinton was President, she would not be fighting like Trump has been throughout his term and acting like she is younger than her granddaughter.

If Mike Pence adds his name to the race, searching for a VP mate will be interesting.

I hope you did not think I am expecting a fair biparisan trial. At this point, what the Senate will do next is anyone's guess.

The republicans and democrats, the conservatives and liberals, represent two brothers, two different schools of thought, or two different ideologies/philosophies, etc, that have always existed since time began, and maybe even before that even, and that has been the ultimate downfall of many societies throughout the years, ages, eras, etc, by either not finding the third option, or these two never being able to see eye to eye or agree on anything, etc...

In the bible it/they are represented by two brothers, or two angels, etc... Or are talked about in an example or a parable or story, etc...

But if it remains divided against itself, there is no way it can ever stand or last, etc...

God Bless!

I'll make a prediction. If someone other than Donald Trump runs for Pres., the VP choice will either be a woman, or a black person. Nikki Haley, maybe. Or Sen. Tim Scott. I can't recall her name, but there's a Congresswoman from FL of Hispanic ancestry who might be a sensible pick. The party needs national candidates other than old white men.

True. Even if Trump is removed from office, he could run again. Unless the Senate, as part of his impeachment conviction, disqualifies him from holding any other federal office. Which can be done, but it's not automatic if the Articles of Impeachment are upheld. It must be specified. Though I can't imagine that if Republicans were finally sick to death of Donald Trump, they would ever allow him to darken their door again.
