OK, working backwards

Mt 25:31-46 = "Sheep & Goats" ending in "everlasting punishment vs. everlasting life" = FJ ?
Mt 25:14-30 = "Bags of Gold" when Master returns "after a long journey" = 2C ?
Mt 25:1-13 = "10 Virgins" which is like the "Bags of Gold" parable as Bridegroom was a "long time in coming" = 2C ?
Mt 24:35-51 = "Day & Hour Unknown" = 2C & FJ ?

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man

So, then:
  1. Matthew 24:1-34 [OD-1] = 70 AD
  2. Matthew 24:35-25:46 [OD-2] = future 2C @ FJ
In turn, that implies:
  1. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 = OD-1 = 70 AD
  2. 1 Thessalonians 5 = 2 Thess 2 = OD-2 = future 2C @ FJ

Erik, I'm assuming

"2C" = second coming
"OD" = Olivet Discourse

Would that be correct?

R.C. Sproul has a free series on his website where he dives into (and defends) Partial Preterism. I wonder if anyone here has listened to it and would be willing to share their thoughts? I would consider myself a weak Partial Preterist. Out of all the views I've heard, this one seems to make the most sense, though like all of them I think there are some glaring holes that are tough to resolve.

The Last Days According to Jesus by R.C. Sproul
I'm working through R.C. Sproul's teaching (this is all a new perspective for me - so I still have a lot of studying to do). This thread demonstrates the varying degrees of fulfillment partial preterists believe in. I think I'm on the higher side - seeing much more fulfilled than R.C. Sproul does.

Can you think of some "glaring holes" off hand - that you're trying to resolve, @SPF ?

What are the four empires?
You'll find them in Daniel 2 where Daniel explains King Nebuchadnezzar's dream. They are Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome. Daniel expounds on it more in Daniel 7 & 8.

So as far as this FOURTH BEAST - our THREE CANDIDATES are Rome, Greece, and Jerusalem itself.

Whew.
I hold the 4th beast to be Rome. Jerusalem is the woman riding the 4th beast (Rev 17)...as Rome and Jerusalem persecuted the church at that time.

I'll admit that this is actually a new area for me to study (eschatology).

These are the key details in what you all are discussing.....correct?

The Fourth Beast
It’s this fourth beast that we will focus on in the rest of our study of Daniel 7. After this part of Daniel’s vision (Daniel 7:1-8) he goes on to learn that the fourth beast would be a fourth kingdom, and it would be slain “and given to the burning flame” (Daniel 7:11, 23). He also learns that the little horn would make war against the saints and “intend to change times and the law” (Daniel 7:21, 24-25). The little horn would prevail against the saints for 3.5 years until the Ancient of Days would come and the saints would possess the kingdom (Daniel 7:21-22, 25-27)

Ten Horns of the Beast (Daniel 7:7, 20, 24)
Daniel observes that the fourth beast had 10 horns (verse 7). In verse 20 Daniel asked about those 10 horns and it was revealed to him that they “are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom” (verse 24). Daniel wasn’t told anything else about those 10 horns, but in Revelation 17:12-17 John learns that they [1] would “receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast” [2] would “give their power and authority to the beast” [3] would make war with the Lamb but be overcome by the Lamb [4] would “hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire” [5] and would “give their kingdom to the beast until the words of God are fulfilled.”

Well, yeah - details of fourth kingdom is what we are focusing on...

Did you MAN UP, mkgal1?

LOL

You are pulling the details from a guy who thinks Israel is the 4th beast, just saying
I lean towards Rome

Yes, I am getting those details from a partial preterist that believes the fourth kingdom is apostate/corrupt Jerusalem. I've not decided myself (I need to read and consider some more).
