What? I thought this (gazillion-dollar boondoggle) was going to solve all our problems? :dizzy::scratch:

Next thing you know someone will be telling us they can dig under it, go over it, or sail around it, too.

I recall clearly being told on this forum that those seeking to cross the boarder illegally could not possibly overcome the logistical hurdles of obtaining power tools and back packs to carry them in. Yet somehow they put all that together all on their own...

I had heard it was only woman and sick children crossing, if anybody.
If they can push kids though the holes, I'm ok with that.
But that's not it - sometimes reading the article helps with understanding what it says.

WaPo said:
The breaches have been made using a popular cordless household tool known as a reciprocating saw that retails at hardware stores for as little as $100. When fitted with specialized blades, the saws can slice through one of the barrier’s steel-and-concrete bollards in minutes, according to the agents, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the barrier-defeating techniques.

After cutting through the base of a single bollard, smugglers can push the steel out of the way, creating an adult-size gap. Because the bollards are so tall — and are attached only to a panel at the top — their length makes them easier to push aside once they have been cut and are left dangling, according to engineers consulted by The Washington Post.

One person at a time is not a problem either. One car at a time is not a problem.
To enforce a wall, it should have proximity sensing security on it's entire length anyway.
Or just visual monitoring. There is no type of wall that works unsupervised. There never has been. (I'm in favor of opening the borders, myself.)

You're right - as the article says, a border system is needed. What is the cost-benefit analysis on this?

Open borders would benefit both sides. Why do you ask?
But there are terrorism, security, and drug issues to deal with.
We like illegal drugs....outside sources like to sell them to us.

We like to travel easily for fun and business.
Terrorists like to blow things up and kill themselves too.

We haven't had open borders for scores of years. Back in the frontier days they were pretty fluid. Any settlers were encouraged to encroach on Indian holdings.

Are those benefits you are listing?
Much of the current border is wide open with no wall.
About 1/3 is fence or wall.

Clearly Donald is going to need to declare another national emergency in order to appropriate more funds to rebuild his fence... with Adamantium.

Going over the wall will require (of course) another emergency and a few billion more dollars... to lace it with Kryptonite.

Money is no object, of course ... because it won't be his.

Encouraged to encroach by the US government, that is... by the Indians themselves... not so much.

The wall still slows them down
that's good
slowing the extreme flow.

M-Bob
Right. Drug smugglers can get in whenever they want, but the wall will slow down the hoards of Central American refugees who want to dilute our precious bodily fluids.

Mexico can do more on their side.

Maybe we can contract with them to fix the holes after they cut them.

Sounds like we're paying Mexico for the fence...
