We can't impeach because the GOP in the Senate say no in terms of a trial outcome of guilty.

So . . . hold public House meetings and out him over and over and over every time he tries his nonsense.

Election day is a year away and will come ever so quickly.

Even though that would have been the expectation in the past, it cannot be assumed as a certainty I think. There's the pragmatic side: the GOP would tend to want to do self preservation, if the revelations of wrongdoing are large enough. They can't afford to lose another 3, 4, 5, 6 percent, maybe more, of the vote in a lot of states. But I think even that a lot of the GOP senators would just vote what is correct, because it's correct.

This took long enough, probably because of the incompetence of our Fearless Leader and his very small staff. However, this is a reasonable position supported by 86% of Republicans, and likely by the Republican Senate.

IMO, more will be needed to convince more than 1 or 2 Republican senators. At very least the Mueller probe obstruction issues should be included as an article, as well as directing the payment to women right before the election. Lying to taxing authorities might be an article also. as this was done many times in more than one country.

And, yes, Democrats believe that he should be convicted and is obviously "guilty'. And, sure, 86% off Democrats agree. Put in that context, this is indeed what elections are about. The voters will decide whether Trump should rule this country for 4 more years, or longer.

Trump's and the WH's position
: I did no wrong. We needed to pressure Ukraine, and its very corrupt government. Delaying aid was the right thing to do. The US certainly has the right to delay aid to corrupt regimes.

Republican position: The president was wrong but this is hardly a "high crime and misdemeanor". His actions regarding Ukraine don't rise to the level of impeachable behavior.

There is no way to know before the impeachment occurs if 67 Senators will vote in Donald Trump's favor. Just a few Republicans coming out to say how they will vote (if they ever do) is irrelevant. If the HR does impeach Trump, the Senate is obligated to try him.

I could see the majority of the public accepting the likely view of Senate Republicans that what Trump did was wrong, but that his actions did not rise to the high level of being an impeachable offense (not high crimes and misdemeanors). Merely being guilty of a crime (to two or three) is not really relevant.

We're just not going to know for sure until we see what the Articles of Impeachment actually contain.

Impeachment is a process to determine whether there enough evidence to hold a trial. It would be pretty unbelievable if Democrats now voted that there was not enough evidence to even try Trump in the Senate.

It seems that there is nothing that can happen that would lead to that result.

But, yes, in theory, Democrats could vote in favor of the president, the vote could be delayed or the Democrats could end the proceedings without a vote.

The bottom line is that an impeachment vote will likely be held before the end of the month, or perhaps delated until mid-December.

As a planning measure, McConnell has told senators to be prepared for a 6 day schedule of trial sessions starting after Thanksgiving and ending as early as Christmas. Most likely, the trial will end in January, before the first voting in Iowa.

So McConnell already knows the House is going to impeach Trump? Or did he just say IF that happens?

"I broke Constitutional law because we need to have a tough president to get rid of corrupt elites". Not a direct quote but same message.

So....forget about taking the irony meter out of its case because it's probably glowing red hot right now.

is that quote from Adam Schiff? Or just after his style. And yes, the irony meter is glowing red hot.

Next he will argue that he needs to hire his own police force to arrest everyone that is against him.

This is how we lose our republic.

Will he at least be smart enough to not give them brown shirts or black shirts?

The trial needs to end this year to delete his name from the Iowa and New Hampshire ballots.
