Trump is committing "felony bribery" by giving fundraising cash to GOP senators ahead of impeachment trial, former Bush ethics lawyer warns

Attorney Richard Painter, who served as the chief White House ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration, warned on Thursday that President Donald Trump appeared to be committing "felony bribery" by giving Republican senators fundraising cash ahead of an increasingly likely impeachment trial in the Senate.

The lawyer shared an article published by Politico on Thursday morning. Titled "Trump lures GOP senators on impeachment with cold cash," the article outlined how the president is turning to his large network of donors to raise funds for a few senators facing difficult re-election campaigns in 2020. All of those senators have also signed a resolution condemning the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry.

"This is a bribe. Any other American who offered cash to the jury before a trial would go to prison for felony bribery. But he can get away with it?" Painter, a law professor at the University of Minnesota, wrote on Twitter. "Criminal."

I’m one of those "folks", and thus see it differently. Trump isn’t going to submit to the opposition's impeachment play, in part designed to prevent him from incumbent advantage. It might have worked on any number of other Republican pushovers. Trump? Not a chance.

All they have now are accusations and bluster, attempting to criminalize his every move. Not going to cut it.

If he kills that person on 5th Ave., it still won't be enough for impeachment, and he will charge the family for the bullet.

At this point, its boring, and no one can convince an adult of anything unless the adult allows it - meaning explaining why the OP is wrong (i.e. bribery is wrong) would be an exercise in futility.

But, I appreciate these little bits of information. We are now "that country" that doesn't realize they are in the steps of fascism ----> dictatorship, while the world looks in and says we need help.

Committing bribery in front of a 'likely' trial? So, in other words, the currently nonexistent trial. That guy is a moron.

I swear, if Trump ever choked up a bit on a piece of popcorn, you would all want him impeached for mocking asthmatics. One day I hope all the braindeads out there end up tripping over a reality clue.

Well you're certainly correct that Donald never bothers to wear a mask of respectability. He's proud to lack any whatsoever. He lacks an ounce of self-control in showcasing his indecency & immorality every day. This thread is about him committing felony bribery.
