Chicago Mayor poses with Barack Obama on same day she refused to meet Donald Trump: "Your leadership inspired millions"

The Mayor of Chicago met with former President Barack Obama at a dinner on the same day she snubbed Donald Trump's first visit to the city.

Democrat Lori Lightfoot posted a picture of her and the 44th President of the United States at an Obama Foundation community dinner last night, saying his leadership "inspired millions to fight for change—and continues to do so today."

"Good to see you at tonight's @ObamaFoundation community dinner, and looking forward to collaborating on creating new opportunities for the city that we love," she said.

Her tweet with the former commander-in-chief appeared to be a subtle jab at President Trump, who used a speech at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference earlier in the day to criticize Chicago.

The City is always a mess, the teachers often strike and the State is usually broke. And we've long since given up on anyone trying to help us, so yeah, politics as usual.

President Trump did not criticize Chicago

He criticized Chicago leadership, for permitting "horrible crime" which has murdered a dozen Chicagoans per week -- rightly or wrongly, his remarks claim he cares more about Chicagoans & their well-being than his political opponents:

"Well, all you have to do is take a look at your numbers, where you have 500 and 600 murders over the year," Trump said. "You have all the problems that you've had. It can be straightened out with proper management."

The president blamed the murders and shootings on Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and Chicago's status as a sanctuary city.

"You need leadership at the mayor's level and you need a police commission or a police superintendent who can do the job, and obviously that's not what you have," he said.

"You've had many instances of horrible crime that wouldn't have taken place except for the fact that this is a big fat sanctuary city," Trump added.

Just as an aside? I don't care what President Trump thinks about Chicago or it's leaders. He's stayed away from us for three years and that's really the only good thing he's done for Chicago during his administration. :wave:

Trump polluted out a ton of nasty and misleading nonsense. Dissed a city that's in the country he's supposed to be the leader of. The buck never stops with Donald. Considering how cities across the country are trying to get him to pay back the huge expenses for his rallies, him staying away as much as possible is a gift.

No kidding. I agree. I don't want to be caught in the same room with Trump or even associated with him either. And as a woman, I would be concerned that he'd try to force himself on me.
