Do you reject the Sermon on the Mount as being applicable today?

If so, then what verses lead you to that conclusion?

~ (Also, please vote in the poll) ~

When Jesus reign as King in the 1000 year Millennial, justice will be executed fairly.

When someone slap us on our left cheek, we can offer them our right. When someone steal our cloak, we can let them have our inner garment as well. This is because we can trust that Jesus, as the King, will defend us, because he knows all things.

Now, Paul said we are in the present evil age (Galatians 1:4), so those are not instructions for us now.

So now I’m curious why did Jesus day if you love me keep my commands? If he didn’t specify doesn’t that mean if we miss even one then that means we don’t love him according to that scripture? Thanks for any insight :)
No, friend. Christ knows we will sin. But the aim is still love, and this continues.

There is also a difference between willed (I knew better but I did it anyway because I wanted to) sin, and unintentional (I only realized my error later) sin.

That's a good question. It's like a marriage. We keep trying, keep falling, but get up, and grow in holiness, love, selflessness, and grace.

Paul says "...let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." (2 Corinthians 7:1).

and @friend of

This was Paul's second letter to the Corinthians. In his first, he was very concerned for them and their immaturity. He says now,

2 Corinthians 7:
9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation

To receive the Holy Spirit we must repent. And no one without the Holy Spirit belongs to Christ. We must be born again. That is our carnal nature is born again into the divine nature. 2 Peter 1.

I'm curious as to what you make of the parable of the Wedding Banquet in Matthew 22:1-14

Thanks

Matthew 22:1-8 is God punishing the Israelite nation as a whole for their rejection of the Messiah before salvation went out to the Gentiles.

Matthew 22:9 is referring to the Gentile inclusion into God’s plan of salvation (Seeing Israel as a nation rejected their Messiah).

Matthew 22:10 was the invite of Gentile guests (and or any remnant Messianic Jews) both bad and good (Note: “the good and bad” is similar to what we see mentioned in Matthew 13:38-39 and Matthew 25:31-33).

Matthew 22:11-13 talks about how those New Covenant believers who did not have on a wedding garment, they were cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (Note: Gnashing of teeth is what wolves do).

So what is this Wedding garment that they did not have on that led to their unhappy ending?

Jesus Christ and His righteousness.

"... clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and do not obey your flesh and its desires." (Romans 13:14) (ISV).

In Revelation 19, when the marriage of the Lamb is come, we learn that the fine linen that the saints are wearing is the righteousness of the saints.

"And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints." (Revelation 19:8).

1 John 3:7 says, "Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous."

1 John 3:10 says, "In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."

Romans 13:12 says, "“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

Gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance. For as He who has called you is holy, so you should also be holy in all manner of conversation because it is written: “Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16).

What does to gird up your loins mean?

full

It is in a way to cover your underparts, but also to expose and free up the legs so as to properly fight. The analogy by Peter here is that we need to fight against sin.

Matthew 22:14 says many are called but few are chosen. This is exactly what it means. Narrow is the way and few be there that find it. The popular view in Christianity teaches that you can sin and still be saved on some level by having a belief alone on Jesus. But those who meet the requirements in being the chosen will have everlasting life and they will not be cast into outer darkness. We see in Matthew 25:30 whereby the unprofitable servant is cast into outer darkness. So things will not go well for those who disobey and or who justify sin in some way. For Jude 1:4 warns against those who turn God's grace into a license for immorality. But God's grace teaches us to deny ungodliness, and that we should live righteously and godly in this present world (See Titus 2:11-12).

The Sermon on the Mount was a commentary on the Law of Moses. Some Jews, especially the Pharisees, had established their own righteousness. Lord Jesus was pointedly telling them that it was not good enough. He told the disciples that they needed a righteousness better than the Pharisees. No man will be justified by the works of the Law. Jut obeying the Law is not enough. It is necessary to follow the spirit of the law. Only One has achieved that, Lord Jesus. Now if we will be led by the Spirit, we will indeed be pleasing God. The Law is made redundant. There is a new law, the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. No longer is it a set of rules to follow, it is a principle to live by. We are both led and empowered by Christ to fulfil God's righteous commands. I've tried both legalism and being led by the Spirit. Legalism is a curse and a blight. Shun it.

Right. And the intruder at the banquet was clothed in his own robe. He thought it was good enough. That represents fashioning our own sufficiently.

The righteousness of Christ is both His sacrifice, resurrection, and mercy via by faith in Him (Justification), and it is in Sanctification (that working of GOD within us to do good and to live holy).

Nowhere did I suggest that we can fashion our own form of righteousness (apart from the righteousness of GOD). That is what you do not understand. You fail to understand that 1 John 3:7 says he that DOES righteousness is righteous. But it is not of their own working alone or power. Jesus said in John 15:5 that we can do nothing without Him. Surely only a person who saved by God's grace through faith in Christ can obey. This is why Paul had a problem with certain Christians thinking they had to be circumcised first in order to be saved. They were trying to justify themselves by the Old Law and not by Christ anymore (See Galatians 5:2, and see the Jerusalem council in Acts of the Apostles 15:1, Acts of the Apostles 15:5, and Acts of the Apostles 15:24). For a certain sect of Jews were trying to deceive Christians into thinking they had to FIRST be circumcised in order to be saved. So if a person believed this, they were making the Law (the Old Law) the basis for their salvation and not God's grace. This is why Paul argued in the way that he did against Law and works as the entrance gate and or foundation for one's salvation. Paul was not arguing against the necessity of works of faith that follow (Sanctification). For if he did, then that means we can live like devils and be saved by having a belief alone on Jesus.

Also, Romans 13:14 says that we are to clothe ourselves with Christ, and we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. If you were to skip up two verses it talks about in verse 12 how we are to cast off darkness (sin) and put on the armor of light (See Romans 13:12). The armor of light is Christ. Clothing yourself with Christ is more than just having faith in His sacrifice, burial, and resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 for salvation. It is casting off the works of darkness or sin. For Paul says in context before Romans 13:12 the following words:

8 "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Romans 13:8-9).

In other words, Paul is telling the reader: Do not commit certain sins.

Furthermore, in the Parable of the Wedding Banquet, we see that the one who did not have on a wedding garment was cast into outer darkness. Where else do we see the phrase: "cast into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth"?

In Matthew 25:30, it says, "And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

Not sure if you ever read and understood this parable before, but it pretty straight forward in it's meaning. The one who was faithful over a little was told to enter into the joy of the Lord (Matthew 25:21). However, the unprofitable servant was cast into outer darkness where there was weeping and gnashing of teeth. To be faithful over something means that they were faithful in doing the Lord's will and or work. The one who was not faithful in doing anything was cast into outer darkness. So belief alone-ism did not save this guy here.

Why do you think Jesus told those believers who did wonderful works in his name to depart from Him in Matthew 7:23? Was it because they were trusting in their own good works? Not exactly. While it is wrong to believe that man can do anything apart from the good work that the Lord does through us (i.e. GOD works through us to do good works), it was their sin or iniquity that was the reason why Christ told those believers in Matthew 7:23 to depart from Him. To drive this point home even more if somebody is hard headed, Jesus says in Matthew 7:26-27 that if the person who does not DO what Jesus says is like a fool who built his house upon the sand, and when a storm came, great was the fall of that house. If a person sins, they are not doing what Jesus says, but they are doing what they want to do. Surely GOD cannot agree with out thinking that we can sin and still be saved because GOD is holy and just and righteous. So the idea that we are saved based solely on a belief in Jesus is false because it leads to turning His grace into a license for immorality (Jude 1:4).

If that is not enough for you in Scripture, as I said before, Matthew 22:10 was the invite of Gentile guests (and or any remnant Messianic Jews) both bad and good (Note: “the good and bad” is similar to what we see mentioned in Matthew 13:38-39 and Matthew 25:31-33).

In Matthew 13:38-40 (The explanation of the Parable of the Weeds) we read:

38 "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world." (Matthew 13:38-40).

We see in the Parable of the Banquet in Matthew 22, the gathering of the good and bad to the wedding. This is a parallel with the gathering of the good seed and the tares (the bad seed) at the end of the world (the Judgment) in the explanation on the Parable of the Weeds.

Now, I want you to pay extra special attention to these next two verses:

41 "The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:41-42).

Not sure if you caught what it is saying here: But so far we have a gathering of good and bad people who declare to be a part of Christ's kingdom. The Son of Man (JESUS) will send forth his angels and they will gather out of His kingdom all who offend (lead others to sin) and who work iniquity (work multiple sins or evil works). These who offended and worked iniquity will be cast into the furnace of fire by angels. The furnace of fire is the Lake of Fire. We get the same idea here in the Parable of the wedding banquet because the ones who were obviously BAD are the ones who are cast out into outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (Which could be a holding place for the tares before the official judgment).

In Matthew 25:31-46, we see a similar thing. We have a gathering of sheep and goats and it was the goats who did not help the poor who were cast away into a punishment of the ages (KJV - "everlasting punishment). They did not DO something that was a part of loving their neighbor. For we see in Luke 10:29-37 that loving your neighbor is helping the poor; And in Luke 10:25-28, we see that Jesus agreed with the lawyer that we are to love GOD and love our neighbor as a part of inheriting eternal life. As a matter of fact, Jesus told the lawyer to do this (Love God, and love your neighbor) and he will live (Which is the same idea of helping the poor and having eternal life in Matthew 25:31-40). Jesus did not correct the lawyer to simply believe in the finished work of the cross alone. Jesus said "do this, and you will live."

Now, some like yourself may protest against Luke 10:28-37, and say that this is Old Covenant teaching because it happened before the cross, but this is not the case. We learn in 1 Corinthians 16:22 that Paul says "if any man loves not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed." We know that the way Jesus wants us to love Him is by keeping His commandments (See John 14:15), and Paul was not in disagreement with the words of Jesus because he said if any man does not agree with the words of Jesus, he is proud and he knows nothing (See: 1 Timothy 6:3-4). Furthermore, the apostle John after the cross said that if we hate our brother, no eternal life abides in us (1 John 3:15). John implies using other words that walking in the light is loving one's brother (See: 1 John 2:9-11), and 1 John 1:7 says if we walk in the light, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. So again, a believer has to do "works of love" or "works of faith" (via by the power of GOD working in them as a part of Sanctification, and not their own works) in addition to being saved by God's saving grace through faith in Christ and in seeking His forgiveness for salvation (or so as to inherit eternal life).

Men like Bryan Denlinger rejects the Sermon on the Mount as being applicable today. He says that the Sermon on the Mount applies to the Millennial Kingdom because you cannot possibly obey all of the things on the Sermon on the Mount.
That is the point of that sermon. He is revealing how it is NOT possible to do these things fully and why the new covenant, and the writing of the law on the mind and heart by God, is needed. That doesn't mean, by the way... that we don't strive to do these things, it is just an acknowledgement that until the writing is complete, we will fail from time to time.

No. Jesus was making changes to the Law (even before the New Covenant went officially into effect with His death). For Jesus was primarily teaching New Covenant teachings and not Old Covenant teachings during His earthly ministry.

How so?

Jesus clearly was making changes to the Law (even before the cross):
(Which means He was not teaching primarily Old Covenant, but New Covenant):

The Old Way says:
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth"
(Matthew 5:38 cf. Exodus 21:23-25).

The New Way (by Jesus) says:
"But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." (Matthew 5:39).

The Old Way says:
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment" (Matthew 5:21 cf. Numbers 35:30-32).

The New Way (by Jesus) says:
"But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." (Matthew 5:22).

The Old Way says:
"Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:" (Matthew 5:34 cf. Numbers 30:1-2, Deuteronomy 23:21).

The New Way (by Jesus) says:
34 "But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." (Matthew 5:34-37).

The Old Way says:
"And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant." (Psalms 143:12).

"And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent." (Joshua 6:17).

"And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword." (Joshua 6:21).

16 "But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:
17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee" (Deuteronomy 20:16-17).

"They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them" (Psalms 106:34).

The New Way (by Jesus) says:
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" (Matthew 5:44).

Note: Yes, I am aware that the Old Way (Old Testament) also teaches to love one's enemies (Exodus 23:4-5) (Proverbs 25:21), but this was in context to their own Israelite people, and not pagan nations. Pagan nations were to be destroyed when God commanded the Israelites to destroy them. But Jesus taught a radically different way. Love your enemies, and do good to them that hate you, and to pray for those who persecute you.

The Old Way says:
20 "But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:
21 Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the harlot in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.
22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel." (Deuteronomy 22:20-22).

4 "They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?" (John 8:4-5).

The New Way (by Jesus) says:
"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. " (John 8:7).

Even after the cross, there were changes being made:

The Old Covenant says this about circumcision:
"And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant." (Genesis 17:14).

Yet, the New Covenant says this about circumcision:
"Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing."
(Galatians 5:2).

The Old Covenant says this about the Sabbath:
32 "And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses." (Numbers 15:32-36).

Yet, the New Covenant says this about the Sabbath:
"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:" (Colossians 2:16).

So it appears things have changed.

This makes sense because again, Hebrews 7:12 says the Law has changed.

"For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law."
(Hebrews 7:12).

“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
(John 1:17).

Jesus said,
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." (Matthew 5:17).

Jesus came not to abolish the Law (in the sense of destroying all forms of Law), but Jesus came to fulfill the Law (i.e. to nail to the cross those ordinances that were against us [like the Old Covenant ceremonial laws], and Jesus came to give us a more fulfilled and perfect way of obeying God via the commands that come directly from Him and His followers). For Jesus offered a more perfect way of loving God, and loving our neighbor (Which of course is only possible via if we are first saved by God's grace through faith).

Shun it.

Furthermore, what folks call Legalism, they fail to understand that it is actually Sanctification or the 2nd work of GOD as a part of salvation. For...

After we are saved by God's grace,
God’s works (done through us) are also required as a part of the Salvation Process:

(Here are a List of Verses):

#1. “Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." (James 2:24).

#2. "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” (James 2:17-18).

#3. "They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate." (Titus 1:16).

#4. "If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing," (1 Timothy 6:3-4).

Supplemental verse:

"...God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." (James 4:6).

#5. "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." (Hebrews 5:9).

#6. "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14).

#7. “...God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:13).

Supplemental verses:

(a) “That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:12).

(b) “...and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and establish you in every good word and work.” (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17).

#8. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1).

Supplemental verse:

“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” (Romans 8:13).

#9. "If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema [accursed] Maranatha."(1 Corinthians 16:22).

Supplemental verses:

(a) "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15).

(b) “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.” (John 15:10).

#10. ”And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.” (Luke 10:25-28).

#11. “...if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 19:17-19).

#12. "And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:38). ”If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Matthew 16:24-26).

#13. "...No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62) (cf. Luke 8:11-15, 1 Corinthians 4:15).

#14. "But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God." (Romans 2:8-11).

Supplemental verses:

(a) "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." (James 1:21).

(b) “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” (James 1:12).

(c) "For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." (John 3:20).

#15. “And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” (John 5:29).

#16. ”And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” (Revelation 22:12-15).

#17. “For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.” (Romans 11:21-22).

#18. “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:12-13).

#19. ”Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:34-40).
“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” (Matthew 25:41-46).

#20. ”His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” (Matthew 25:21).
”And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 25:30).

#21. “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” (1 John 3:10).

#22. “He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God” (John 8:47).

#23. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7) (cf. 1 John 2:9-11).

#24. “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20).

#25. “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27).

#26. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21).

Supplementary verse:

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication” (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

#27. “And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet [Jesus], shall be destroyed from among the people.” (Acts of the Apostles 3:23).

#28. “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.’ (John 15:5-6).

Supplementary verses:

(a) “Bring forth therefore fruits befitting for repentance” (Matthew 3:8).

(b) “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.” (Matthew 3:10).

#29. “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.” (1 Peter 4:18-19).

#30. “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” (Galatians 6:8-9).

Do you reject the Sermon on the Mount as being applicable today?

If so, then what verses lead you to that conclusion?

~ (Also, please vote in the poll) ~
Hi I went to a Catholic high school and they had banners of how the golden rule was in a lot of other faiths other than Christian and it seemed like they were holding this idea of do unto others taught in the sermon on the mount as some interfaith ecumenical glue. A guy named Martin LLoyd Jones wrote a long book on the sermon on the mount and it is incredible. The sermon on the Mt is much like parables where people can spin it how they wish so I voted other. If you want to understand the sermon better check out Jones book.

Right. And the intruder at the banquet was clothed in his own robe. He thought it was good enough. That represents fashioning our own sufficiently.

One more thing. 1 John 3:7 says that we are NOT TO BE DECEIVED on the matter of that he that does righteousness is righteous. You are saying that you are solely righteous based on believing in the finished work of the cross. Yet, 1 John 3:7 says be not deceived.... he that does righteousness is righteous!!!

My point of bringing up the Sermon on the Mount was motivated by a man who rejected it as being applicable today (See post #2). I started the thread so as to ask if there are any who believe as he does and for them to bring forth biblical proof that states that this sermon is for the Millennial kingdom or it was all Old Covenant (that does not apply to us generally), etc.

The laws being written on our hearts is when our sin nature is born again of the Holy Spirit, the gift from Jesus, into the divine nature. 2 Peter 1

It is like having the nature of a lion with only a taste for blood and meat, and going to the nature of a lamb that hates blood and meat, and only wants fresh green grass. You do what comes naturally: either that of a lion, or that of a lamb. So if the New Covenant laws are to eat grass, it is very easy for the lamb, but impossible for the lion.
