DOJ inquiry into origins of Russia investigation has shifted to criminal probe

Attorney General William Barr told a Senate panel that he believes "spying did occur" on Trump campaign. He said "it's my obligation" to explore that.

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department's politically-charged inquiry into the origins of the Russia investigation has shifted to a criminal probe, a person familiar with the matter said late Thursday.

"The move is all but certain to fuel fresh suspicion among Democrats that Attorney General William Barr is providing political cover to President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly disparaged former special counsel Robert Mueller's two-year investigation into the Kremlin's intervention in the 2016 election as a "witch hunt."

Hardly a game changer. Just some more "political cover" and red herrings for Trump.

In a cesspool of political offal a single piece of excrement looks much less revolting when it is thrown together with all these "game changers".

But I guess it is positive that Trump supporters get so much joy out of it.

Seriously Bob? For one thing, the FBI quite roundly rejected this idiocy when it first came up, there is no need to continually repeat that. But in all seriousness Bob do you actually think that getting into a yes you did no I didn’t shouting match would actually serve any purpose? Rightly or wrongly, people with a little dignity give people the benefit of the doubt, willing to believe that anyone who can read will take the trouble to look into it themselves, rather than just swallowing their daily propaganda pill.

Justice Dept. to launch criminal investigation into its own Russia probe: report

Attorney General William Barr has closely reviewed how the department handled the Russia investigation. But shifting the administrative review to a criminal inquiry would allow the prosecutor presiding over the inquiry, John H. Durham, to subpoena for witness testimony and documents, people familiar with the matter told the Times.

It would also enable Durham, a U.S. attorney appointed by Barr to lead the inquiry, to put together a grand jury and to file charges.

I know many don't care because Obama was their guy and Hillary was the lady that was going to break the glass ceiling.

The review is being conducted by Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham. The New York Times first reported Thursday that the administrative review has turned into a criminal investigation.

Actually the ‘liberal media’ if you like are positive about Durham. Barr’s job is not to act as Trump’s personal lawyer, so you can draw/invent your own conclusions about that.
