I don't have a clear answer. I know my rebirth and my heart was washed clean. Then things happened and my heart got mudded up.

If you are Christian, there will be seasons where sin will overcome for a time in your life and where the regenerate part will overcome in turn. It is a constant battle between the flesh and the spirit, sometimes it appears we have victory and we have defeat in those moments.

What do you think? Is it by serving God, living a faithful life through helping our neighbour? Is it through reading the Bible? Through prayer, fasting? Maybe abstaining from sin? Attending church? Trusting in Christ alone? Asking for forgiveness? All of it maybe? Jesus says this to the Pharisees:

Matthew 23
25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence. 26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also.

Luke 11
39 Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness. 40 You foolish ones, did not He who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But give that which is within as charity, and then all things are clean for you.
Do you think it is possible for man ?

No, I don't think so.

Thankfully, Jesus says what is impossible for man, is possible for God.

Me too.
The Apostles and disciples of Jesus too.
That actually seems like a good clear answer to me. (but admittedly, I did not read the question yet)

Prayer, fasting, and heart healthy diet. How can you get a clean mind?
Only by the Father's accomplishing, in Jesus, "cleaned by His Word" as the apostles and disciples were as Jesus said, perhaps ? Or described in Scripture elsewhere.....

Hm... all I know is that Christ can clean your heart like a newborn baby.

Clean heart, clean mind, isn't it basically the same?
Just for reference, no. Very different I think.
Watchman Nee, and a few other teachers the last hundred years or so, show the clear distinction in and by and through Scripture and Yahuweh's Plan and Purpose. pm me for a url to a clean library, tested and proven in line with Scripture, if you like. No strings attached to it, free to visit and read and download ....

You can be heaven bound because you have put your faith in Christ. You can do all these things too and should be doing them to stay on and help others find and stay on the path of life.
But technically. True conversion consists in the reason your doing these things. You ultimate motive in life. The thing your aiming at. That has to change for the inward man to change. All the light from heaven won’t change the reason a human being does all that they do. It’s a choose of the will; based in knowledge. That is were the real fruit proceeds from.

To get his feet washed by Jesus... He didn't want his Lord to do something like that. He didn't feel worthy.
Or.... It could have been that least little ego...

Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: - 1 Corinthians 5:6-7

What do you think?
By surrendering to God's Holy Spirit.

We really cannot please God unless it is through his Holy Spirit. The Spirit changes us from within so that we do God's will.
Phil. 2:
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Question: "What does it mean to be pure in heart?"

Answer:
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matthew 5:8). Jesus spoke this during His famous Sermon the Mount. So what did He mean by “pure in heart?”

The Greek word for “pure” in Matthew 5:8 is katharos. It means to be “clean, blameless, unstained from guilt.” Interestingly, the word can refer specifically to that which is purified by fire or by pruning. John the Baptist told people that Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11). Malachi speaks of the Messiah as being like a “refiner’s fire” (Malachi 3:2). Jesus refers to believers as being the branches and to Himself as being the vine (John 15:1-17). For a vine to produce fruit, it must be pruned. Those who are truly “pure,” then, are those who have been declared innocent because of the work of Jesus and who are being sanctified by His refining fire and His pruning.

The Greek word for “heart” in Matthew 5:8 is kardeeah. This can be applied to the physical heart. But it also refers to the spiritual center of life. It is where thoughts, desires, sense of purpose, will, understanding, and character reside. So, to be pure in heart means to be blameless in who we actually are.

Being pure in heart involves having a singleness of heart toward God. A pure heart has no hypocrisy, no guile, no hidden motives. The pure heart is marked by transparency and an uncompromising desire to please God in all things. It is more than an external purity of behavior; it is an internal purity of soul.

The only way we can be truly pure in heart is to give our lives to Jesus and ask Him to do the cleansing work. Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” God is the one who makes our hearts pure – by the sacrifice of His Son and through His sanctifying work in our lives (see also 1 John 3:1-3).

One gets clean (mind and heart) (soul and spirit, etc) by the Baptism by Fire of the Holy Spirit, or purification or purifying by fire or of the Holy Spirit, or what difficulties or difficult hard things we go through in this life...

That is the only way, and is the purpose of this life, and/or this kind of life or type of existence...

It prepares or makes you fully ready and/or qualified for the next, etc...

The Holy Spirit could not have come, or be with us now to do this, without Jesus and what He did, etc...

You have to have God in your trials though, otherwise it/they are all in vain and are for nothing, your just suffering to remain unchanged and for no good reason at all if this is not so, etc...

If you don't have God in them with you, etc...

God never promised us freedom from trials or trouble or difficulty in this life, only that He would be with you in them... "if" you allow Him to be with you in them... and (if that is the case) that they would be for a great reward and of very great, exceedingly great benefit to you in the end, if you have Him with you in them, etc...

If You have Him truly with you in them, then both your mind and heart should start to become clean, unless you really don't or do not actually, etc...

If there is no fruit, etc... You probably don't yet have Him with you in them, etc... If your not being cleansed or becoming clean, etc...

Do not be like a dog returning back to it's own vomit though, choosing to voluntarily pollute yourself with the filth (that you were supposed to come out of and be delivered from) Anyway, do not be like a dog returning back to it's own vomit though, choosing to voluntarily pollute yourself with the filth (again) while at the same time hoping to become clean, because that will never work, etc...

Obviously the cleansing or whatever, was never really truly happening or working in the first place if you do, etc... Cause that's proof that it is not, or doesn't or is not, etc... never was truly or really so in the first place, etc...

God Bless!

You know what I think? We need to repent to get a clean heart, turn away from sin and toward godly life. Then God can purify our heart.

John the Baptist came with simple truths.

Luke 3
7 So he began saying to the crowds who were going out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits in keeping with repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. 9 Indeed the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; so every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

10 And the crowds were questioning him, saying, “Then what shall we do?” 11 And he would answer and say to them, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.” 12 And some tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.” 14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, “And what about us, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages.”

I thought it was God or the Holy Spirit who did that work...?

"If" we can repent, all well and good, but if you cannot in your own strength, then God will do it for you, etc...

I just know for me, it is all my trials and tribulations that have cause me to become "better", (or more grown up, sin free, mature, etc)...

I tried many, many times to do it on my own before that, but it never worked, but as I went through more, I found myself changing, and becoming "better" more and more and more because of that, etc...

God Bless!
