First the article which brought this thought on:

Bill Taylor testimony 'reverberating' among House Republicans, GOP sources say - CNNPolitics

If Trump has become so much of a liability that they can no longer defend him, getting him to resign now would give them the chance to back Mike Pence for the election. If they wait until they become forced by the massive amount of evidence to support the impeachment, it will be too late for Pence to mount a campaign and they will surely lose to whoever the Democrats run.

I'm just saying, sometimes one just has to cut their losses and move on.

They’ve backed themselves into too deep a corner now for that. That strategy would only work if Trump would agree to go quietly along with it, and the chances of that seem practically zero. They could offer him a Pence pardon of course, but he still has a ton of state charges hanging over him. He needs to cling to office otherwise his world is going to come crashing down around his ears.

Perhaps and better? it is time for Republicans and Democrats and others (what others?)
to stop
to relax
to quiet down
and to find out what is needed, actually, instead of continually bickering about things that won't be changed.... ?

<shrug> At this point in time, I wouldn't be upset if they offered him 10 billion dollars to retire after he had done such a 'great job'. Or if they were to allow him to immigrate to Russia with the money.

He could build his hotel with the Putin Penthouse without me complaining.

And that won't happen as long as Trump is in the White House stirring the pot with all his insults and taunts.

Trump has to answer for his crimes, otherwise the US Presidency is deeply sullied moving forwards.

Did someone forget history of the United States (and most all other countries too) ?

No big changes..... no matter what group has been or is at the top, still a lot of problems, to put it mildly..... meanwhile, the behind the scenes ones with the money, the ones in control, go un-noticed... why is that ?

Simple question, do you think Trump should continue in office and then walk away scot free at the end, even if it’s proven he committed crimes and abuses of office?

This post is about giving the Republicans a better chance at retaining the presidency by giving Pence an opportunity to campaign AND show his leadership.

If the impeachment goes through and enough Republicans find they can't back Trump anymore, it can happen too close to the election for a President Pence to run.

Were I someone who only worried about winning the 2020 election for the Democrats I would have kept my mouth shut.

Calling people ‘spastic’ is a reference to disabled people. Its use in this kind of context is basically saying that they’re acting crazy and/or idiotic, and comparing that to the disabled.

It might not be considered as big a deal in the US, but in the UK it’s considered highly offensive and it can be extremely hurtful to disabled people.

I wonder why, NOT. DOH!
Hm... there's all these people who are getting... frantic... trying to keep me from dousing myself in petrol and then lighting a match.
I wonder why.
If they all are so opposed to it, it must be a great idea.

The party will, sooner or later, give him the option of leaving. Frankly I'm surprised it has taken up to this point!

This seems to be playing out like Nixon in Watergate. Only difference is, Trump doesn't understand that he should step down for his own sake. For all his paranoia, Nixon at least knew when to throw in the towel.

Because Wrong is wrong. No matter what part of the "election cycle" it is. I'm surprised someone on the Left has to point that out.

Ah, I see. Well, in their defense, this is the world wide web--and seeing as they're from the US, I don't think they meant it in the way that it's used in the UK.

Yeah, I don't get it. Trump is an embarrassment to the Republican party. The embarrassment has already been done; we know that already. Cut your losses and move on. Constantly defending Trump in an attempt to avoid embarrassment, won't--and it only makes it worse on both Republicans AND Democrats.
