Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, reasonably priced dial up isp? I have been with my current isp for at least ten years and it has been failing for a long time. I am frustrated with it and ready to try a new one. I realize they are on the way out but I can't afford anything with wi-fi to my chagrin. What will those like me with an isp do when the last one is gone?
Thanks for your responses.

I didn't know dial-up still existed, so I Googled it and … lo and behold....

This link takes you to a Google search page for dial-up providers in the USA.

Thanks for the info, I have looked at those in the past but you never know the truth of them til you subscribe so I thought maybe word of mouth would be more reliable but your suggestion is my next step.
Blessings:)
BTW, WELCOME!
What can I do to help you to love God?

I think I should be welcoming you since I've been on CF since 2012.

Thanks for the offer (to 'help me to love God') but I've been an atheist since I was old enough to think about it - so I'm a bit of a lost cause. :(

Dial-up predates DSL as the earliest form of public internet connection. Dial-up uses the telephone line and the same frequencies used in a standard voice telephone connection. This means that it's relatively slow and you can't access the internet and make a phone call at the same time. DSL uses a digital data signal outside of the normal phone frequency hence it's faster and allows you to simultaneously access the internet and make a phone call.

True. But I've never been a Christian and, after 50 or 60 years considering the issue, I suspect I've heard all of the arguments. The probability that I will suddenly see the light is approaching zero.

Yeah I remember using the 9600 baud modems years ago, but I wasn't aware phone modems were still in use. Interesting.

I also thought dial-up had quietly passed away years ago but apparently it's still around in areas with lines not suited for (A)DSL. I recall seeing some figure suggesting that dial-up represented about 3% of AOL connections. It may be even lower since there are probably many unused, but uncancelled, dial-up accounts.

Sorry, I lost this thread til tonight.
If you are open God can light that light for you. He wishes not one should perish and we are one with him. We want you to feel that love, it is like no other. It is probably hard for you to understand but it hurts when I meet someone like you because I know what you are missing and I hurt for you. Open your heart and be receptive. What do you have to lose? So much to gain. The older we get the closer we need to be so we don't miss out:) I am an old timer loving God always but not always close. Now I must be. I won't preach at you anymore I just don't want you to pass without this experience. Despite what you feel, Gods love for you has no bounds. I feel your spirit and it is warm and caring not the coldness I usually feel from Atheists.
I love you despite your unbelief, more importantly is Gods love for you.
BLESSINGS!

Dial up should have gone away in the 2010s. If you still have it, upgrade to wifi or broadband dsl. Much safer and more secure!

Dial-up actually has a minor security advantage since it generates a different IP (internet 'address') every time you dial in. With DSL your IP remains the same.

Overall the advantages of DSL, particularly its speed, probably outweigh any minor security advantage for dial-up. The problem for some people may be that the quality/configuration of their copper phone line makes it unsuitable for DSL and consistent access to wireless internet may be limited by poor coverage from telecommunication towers.
