Are Revelation 12:6 & Revelation 12:14 the same events or different events?

Revelation 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Revelation 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

If they are the same events, this would indicate only one 42 month period in view here. If they are not the same, this would indicate two 42 month periods in view here, IOW 7 years total.

Between these two verses we see the following.

Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

We know without a doubt, or at least should if we don't, Revelation 12:14 is meaning after Revelation 12:7-13. In order for Revelation 12:6 to be the same event as Revelation 12:14, this, too, requires that Revelation 12:6 is meaning after Revelation 12:7-13. With all of this in mind, are Revelation 12:6 & Revelation 12:14 the same events, or two totally different events, where one takes place before satan is cast to the earth, and the other takes place after satan is cast to the earth?

We also have to keep in mind that Revelation 12:6 is after Revelation 12:4-5. And if Revelation 12:6 & Revelation 12:14 are the same events, this means the war in heaven has already taken place, and that satan has already been cast unto the earth(Revelation 12:13) when Revelation 12:4-5 are fulfilled.

With all of this in mind, so once again, are Revelation 12:6 & Revelation 12:14 the same events, or two entirely different events?

Rev 12 is before the great trib begins so all the times found happen before the GT does. The GT is 42 months but that doesn't mean there aren't other 42 month periods. There are two in Rev 12, they are not the same 42 months and neither of them are the GT 42 months which is found in Rev 11 and 13.

Rev 11 is the ending of the GT and second coming

Rev 12 goes back to Christ's birth and resurrection and details times and events that happen before the GT begins which includes two 42 month periods.

Rev 13 shows the beginning of the GT and it's 42 months.

Let's look at the last 4 verses of chapter 12.

Revelation 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

It seems to me, assuming I'm reading the text correctly, that while the woman is nourished for 42 months, the dragon is making war with the remnant of her seed, during that same 42 months. If verse 17 is meaning during the 42 month reign of the beast, thus the GT, I''m failing to see why you are concluding the time period in verse 14 does not involve the GT?

The way I read it is her 42 months started before he went to war with the remnant.

See above.

Even if it is somehow the same timeframe, the earlier mention of a 42 months period (actually 3.5 years) is definitely not the same timeframe.

Below are some of my observations.

Revelation 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Revelation 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

In the KJV, 'a thousand two hundred and threescore days', only occurs in two verses, that being those above. We see from Revelation 11:3 that a thousand two hundred and threescore days is connected with the time of the 2W.

Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

Revelation 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Also in the KJV, 'a time, times, and half a time', this phrase is only found in 3 verses though it's worded a bit differently each time.

According to Daniel 7:25 we see this time, times, and half a time, is connected with the time of the little horn, IOW the ac.

They are the same. If you use the year-day principle it makes more sense.

The bible often goes back and reviews some history and then gives additional details.
Revelation is not in chronological order.

In order for them to be the same, the chronology would have to look like such.

Revelation 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Revelation 12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Looking at it like that chronologically, I don't see the texts making much sense.

17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Looking at it like that chronologically, I don't see the texts making much sense.

Again .... revelation is not chronological ... if you maintain that it is ... it will not make any sense ... again ... the bible OFTEN reviews past events then provides additional details.

in Revelation 12, a woman appears in heaven “clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head” (Revelation 12:1). This woman in heaven is pregnant and, as she is about to give birth, “an enormous red dragon with seven heads and 10 horns and seven crowns on his heads” (Revelation 12:3) appears, sweeps with his tail “a third of the stars out of the sky,” and casts them to the earth (Revelation 12:3).

The red dragon then stands before the woman who is about to give birth so that it can “devour her child the moment it was born” (Revelation 12:4). The child is spared but the dragon goes after the woman, who hides someone on the earth. This phase of the narrative ends with the line: “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:17).

Revelation 12:1-2

12:1-2 The Bible portrays the great controversy between Christ and Satan in terms of three characters: the Dragon, the Woman, and the Man Child. They are first introduced in Eden where the dragon won an initial engagement with the woman. Bitter conflict ensues between the serpent and the woman, between his seed, and her seed. Ultimate victory comes through a single Seed of the woman, who crushes the serpent’s head, at the same time suffering a deadly bite to the heel. Genesis 3:15. Chapter 12 of Revelation portrays the whole sweet of the drama from its origin in heaven, to Satan’s attack on Jesus, through the persecutions of the Dark Ages, until the final conflict at the time of the end.

Throughout the Bible a pure “woman” is a symbol of God’s true church while a harlot represents a corrupt church. Hosea 1:2; Ezekiel 16; 2 Corinthians 11:2.

She is said to be “clothed with the sun,” the glory of the gospel of Christ, and have “the moon under her feet,” the reflected glory of Christ as foreshadowed in the Old Testament sanctuary services and rituals. John 8:12; Colossians 2:11-17. The “crown of twelve stars” represents the twelve apostles. The woman who gives birth to Messiah represents the true church through its entire history—from Adam and the Jewish nation to the Christian Church.

Revelation 12:13-17

12:13-17 All heaven rejoices over the great victory. But the dragon now vents his wrath on his remaining earthly target, the woman. Whenever Christians remain true to Christ and will not be turned or compromise their beliefs, Satan’s anger is aroused and he excited persecution against them. The church was forced to flee to the uninhabited “wilderness: for “a time, and times, and a half a time,” the 1,260 year period of Papal domination. Millions of Christians were martyred during this time because they chose to obey the Bible instead of the decrees of Popes and church councils. The mountains of Europe and the wilds of Africa and Asia became their refuge, and the new land of America seemed divinely ordained as a stronghold of religious freedom.

At the end of time, shortly before Christ returns, the dragon will inspire his agents to make “war” on the “remnant,” those who have remained true and not apostasized. This remnant is said to “keep the commandments of God.” They are not trying to earn their way to heaven, but they keep them because they love their Creator and Savior. Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15. The Holy Spirit living in them brings them into harmony with God’s law and with His character. As Jesus says through His prophet, “’I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.'” Psalm 40:8.

Jesus gives His “testimony” through His prophets. In the end of times the gift of prophecy will still be active in the remnant church. Acts 2:17; Revelation 19:10; 22:9.

I already agree that the book of Revelation is not chronological. In order for Revelation 12:6 and Revelation 12:14 to be referring to the same events, the war in heaven and satan being cast unto the earth, this has to precede these 2 verses. We already know it precedes verse 14. Does it also precede verse 6? If verse 6 and 14 are the same events, that means the war in heaven and satan being cast unto the earth, this has to precede the fulfilling of both verse 6 and 14. That is the logical conclusion to arrive at if that were the case.

Yes, same woman .... same event.

The Book of Revelation IS basically chronological. It does have flashbacks to fill in details, tho.
Thinking it isn't; really makes for confusion!

I see Rev 12 verses 6 and 14 as the same. Verse 14 fills in the details of how those faithful Christians will be flown to the place of safety, out of the reach of Satan and goes on to tell how his army will get swallowed up.
All of the 1260 days, 42 months and 3 1/2 years, refer to the same
time period. The final 3 1/2 years before Jesus Returns. The first half of the 70 'week' of Daniel 9:27, will be peaceful and is not mentioned.

This would indicate that the war in heaven, and satan being cast unto the earth, that this has already preceded verse 6, or better yet, verse 4. Something like such, meaning chronologically.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
Revelation 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

If one thinks the war in heaven and satan being cast into the earth, that this happened at the cross, or maybe during the ascension, or that it is future still, while at the same time taking Revelation 12:4 to be meaning around the time of Christ's birth, there would be so many contradictions here if one takes both verse 6 and 14 to be meaning the same events.

I have to wonder if some in this thread are even grasping the point I am trying to make here? EWQ was the first to respond. I'm convinced he grasped my point, but I'm not sure about the rest of you though.

Verse 6 is a 'flash forward'. See in verse 13 how Satan pursues the 'woman', who represents Christian people.
It is people who have the belief of a 'rapture to heaven' of the Christians, who have problems in understanding this chapter. But verse 17 blows that theory out of the water, as chapter 12 is about what happens to the Christians, on earth.

Hi David,

First allow me to point out there is no 42 month term in Revelation 12. We are presented with the terms 1260 days in Revelation 12:6. And a time, times, half time in Revelation 12:14.

It is key to keep those terms exactly as they appear in the text. Because it indeed confirms there are two separate events.

The PROOF: The third woe is what everything is hinged.

In Revelation 8, John is informed that the last three trumpets (5, 6, 7) are three woes to the inhabiters of earth. I am going by the KJV.

Revelation 8:13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

trumpet 5 - the flesh tormenting locust woe.
trumpet 6 - the killing of a third of mankind by an army woe.

After 1260 days + 3 1/2 days + the earthquake in Revelation 11, trumpet 7 is sounded.

In Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

That is the third woe, corresponding to when trumpet 7 sounds and comes quickly what it (the third woe) will be (Revelation 11:14) ; which is revealed after Michael and his angels cast Satan and his angels down to earth in Revelation 12:7-9.

So let's look at our timeline narrative, indicative of the 7 years.

1260 days (Revelation 11:3 and 12:6) + 3 1/2 days + the earthquake in Revelation 11; trumpet 7 is then sounded, the third woe comes quickly; Michael and his angels cast Satan/his angels down to earth from the second heaven (Revelation 12:7-9). Leaving a time, times, half time in the seven years, which is but a little time left for Satan. Which cast down to earth, he will be super angry, to take out his wrath on the habiters of the earth - the third woe.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

There is zero chance of this analysis being wrong. If a person were to present a course on eschatology, I can think of no better place to start than that of the third woe. Because it anchors everything into place - the 7 years, the 1260 days, that the prince who shall come in Daniel 9:26 is not Jesus, that the confirming of the covenant for 7 years is not talking about the New Covenant.

Maybe it does allude to the escape of the Christians in 70 AD.
However; verse 6 mentions the 1260 days, which didn't apply to the Christian Jews in Pella.
The PROOF: The third woe is what everything is hinged.
I disagree.
The third woe, Revelation 11:15-19 must fit with Revelation 12:10-12, where Satan is thrown out of heaven and Jesus is proclaimed King over the earth. This happens at the mid point of the final 7 years and Satan sits in the Temple and declares himself to be God.
The 7 Trumpets then take place, followed by the 7 Bowls, culminating; after 1260 days, 42 months, 3 1/2 years, with the battle of Armageddon. Revelation 16:16-17.....and a loud voice from the Throne said: It is over!

It is over, when Jesus Returns for His Millennium reign.

I already agree that the book of Revelation is not chronological.

Actually it is chronological but at certain points there are chronology jumps to a new chronology then that continues until the next jump. As an example, Rev 11 shows the ending events of the GT and the 7th trump which is the second coming. Then chronology jumps in Rev 12 to the birth of Christ and moves forward through time until the last verse when Satan will start the tribulation against Christians, the GT. Rev 13 shows the start of the GT and it's early events which eventually would lead to the events that Rev 11 already covered.

Revelation 12: A Preterist Commentary - Revelation Revolution

Revelation 12:6 Commentary: The Christians of Jerusalem Fled to Pella and were Presumably Kept Safe for 1,260 days.

The woman Virgo symbolizes the kingdom of God. On earth, she is also represented by the Christian church. According to the early church historian Eusebius, the Christian church received an oracle concerning Jerusalem’s destruction, and many Jewish Christians left the city before the start of the war. These refugees fled to the city of Pella.10 Pella is in Perea which according to Jospehus in Wars of the Jews, “the greater part of it [Perea] is desert and rough.”11 The fact that the woman flees to the wilderness in v.6 seems an appropriate description of a region said to be mostly desert.

As previously indicated, the seven trumpets and bowls represent different plagues of Exodus. The fact that the woman flees to the wilderness in v. 6 is another Exodus motif. According to Hebrews 3:10-11 and Psalm 95:10-11, the former Hebrew slaves wandered in the wilderness during the exodus for forty years before their children entered Israel–the promised rest. In Hebrews 3-4, Paul likens the forty-year interval in which the Hebrew slaves wandered in the desert and the subsequent rest their offspring received in the promised land to the life of the Christian saints on earth as they await the resurrection—the promised rest of the saints. Interestingly, there were approximately forty years from the start of Jesus’ earthly ministry to the start of the siege of Jerusalem and the resurrection of the dead. I believe Jesus began His ministry around Tishri of A.D. 29. See Daniel 9:24-27 Commentary: Daniel 9 Miraculously Fulfilled! The siege of Jerusalem and the resurrection of the dead began around Nisan of A.D. 70. See Preterism, the Rapture and the Resurrection. This is an interval of forty years and six months. In other words, Christianity was forty years old by the time of the resurrection—when the Christian saints wandering in the wilderness finally received their promised rest. Is this a coincidence?

Though the exact time of their departure is not known, I believe that, except for the two witnesses, the last of the Christians to flee Jerusalem did so around the time of the Feast of Tabernacles in A.D. 66 when Cestius arrived outside of Jerusalem with the 12th Legion, led a brief assault and then abruptly departed.12 See Matthew 24 Commentary: THAT Generation Shall Not Pass. In A.D. 70 the Romans returned to the city with a much larger army. On Passover of that year–1,260 days or 42 months later—they began their siege of the city. At the very beginning of this siege, the two witnesses were killed. See Revelation 11: A Preterist Commentary–Who are the Two Witnesses?

These two witnesses were Christian and thus should be represented by the woman of Revelation 12:6. Could there have been 1260 days from the final departure of the Christians of Jerusalem until the death of the two witnesses? Josephus tells us that the two witnesses were killed at the start of the siege of Jerusalem. Assuming that the two witnesses died sometime around the Passover celebration when the Romans began their attack and assuming that the last of the Christian saints fled the city sometime around the Feast of Tabernacles of A.D. 66, then perhaps there were 1260 days between the departure of the Christian refugees to the death of the two witnesses corresponding with the time in which the woman representing the Christian saints was kept safe according to Revelation 12:6?

There were 354 days per year in the Jewish lunar calendar used by first century Jews. Approximately every three years, an additional month of 29 or 30 days was inserted into the calendar year to prevent seasonal overlap. Assuming that an additional 29 day month was added sometime in the three and a half years between The Feast of Tabernacles of A.D. 66 and Passover of A.D. 70, then there would have been 1262 days from the 20th of Tishri, the end of the Feast of Tabernacles, of A.D. 66 to the 15th of Nisan, the start of Passover of A.D. 70 when the Romans began their final siege of Jerusalem.13 Is this is the time in which the woman representing the Christian saints were kept safe in Revelation 12:6?

The time in which the woman is kept safe appears to be the same interval in which the two witnesses prophesied and the unfaithful Jews were permitted to remain in Jerusalem according to Revelation 11:2-3. All three events seem to correspond with the arrival of the Roman army in Jerusalem with Cestius in A.D. 66 during the Feast of Tabernacles until the Romans made their final assault on Jerusalem, three and a half years later. See The Flight and Return of the Christians, like the Exile and Return of the Jews from Babylon, is an Earthly Reflection of the Resurrection.
=================================
Revelation Fulfilled, An Exposition, Interpretation and Commentary of Revelation 12:14: The Saints are Kept Safe for “a Time, Times and Half a Time” in Pella.

Like the Jews in Exodus 19:4, the Jewish Christians in v. 14 are carried on eagles’ wings to the desert away from danger. “[T]aken care of for a time, times and half a time,” these Jewish Christians were kept safe while Israel was afflicted with the plagues of Exodus mentioned earlier in Revelation 8: A Preterist Commentary and Revelation 9: A Preterist Commentary–Who is Apollyon?

“[A] time, times and half a time” is a cryptic reference to a period of three and a half years. This three and a half year timeframe is mentioned several times throughout the Book of Revelation. It is the “1260 days” in v. 6 and Revelation 11:3. It is also the “42 months” of Revelation 11:2. In all these cases, this is the interval between the arrival of the Roman army under Cestius at Jerusalem during the Feast of Tabernacles in A.D. 66 to the siege of Jerusalem in Passover of A.D. 70—exactly three and a half years later. It might also be noted that this three and a half year period may also correspond with the arrival of Titus and Vespasian in the early spring of A.D. 67 to the fall of Jerusalem in September of A.D. 70, three and a half years later.

15Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. 16But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.

Source: http://www.simonsebagmontefiore.com/j... First Jewish Revolt, (ad 66–70), Jewish rebellion against Roman rule in Judaea. The First Jewish Revolt was the result of a long series of clashes in which small groups of Jews offered sporadic resistance to the Romans, who in turn responded with severe countermeasures. In the fall of ad 66 the Jews combined in revolt, expelled the Romans from Jerusalem, and overwhelmed in the pass of Beth-Horon a Roman punitive force under Gallus, the imperial legate in Syria. A revolutionary government was then set up and extended its influence throughout the whole country. Vespasian was dispatched by the Roman emperor Nero to crush the rebellion. He was joined by Titus, and together the Roman armies entered Galilee, where the historian Josephus headed the Jewish forces. Josephus’ army was confronted by that of Vespasian and fled. After the fall of the fortress of Jatapata, Josephus gave himself up, and the Roman forces swept the country. On the 9th of the month of Av (August 29) in ad 70, Jerusalem fell; the Temple was burned, and the Jewish state collapsed, although the fortress of Masada was not conquered by the Roman general Flavius Silva until April 73. The Zealots and Sicarii overran the Roman military garrison from Jerusalem. This was a heartening victory for the Jewish people as support for the Zealots in the city grew. This sense of Jewish dominance over the Romans was short lived. By the year 67 CE, the Romans under Vespasian and Titus had taken back all of Judea and killed the Jewish rebels that were left. The Jewish strongholds of Jodapatha, after a 47 day siege, was now under Roman control. The Romans were on the march to Jerusalem. The perspective of the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem, mainly Sadducee Jerusalemites, had shifted dramatically from elation to panic. They knew that the revolt would not be a success for long, and they implored the Zealots to surrender peacefully in order to save as many Jewish lives as possible. The Zealots refused. They anticipated the insurrection that would have doubtless come if the more moderate Jewish leaders were listened to by the common person. As a result, the Zealots and the fanatical Sicarii publicly executed them and hung their dead bodies so that everyone could see the repercussions of preaching insurgent messages of peace. The moderate leaders in Jerusalem at the start of the revolution in 66 CE had all been killed by 68 CE, and not one by the hands of the Roman aggressors. The Zealots and the Sicarii retreated to the Temple. The Roman legion, after several attempts at breaching the walls, set fire to the Holy Temple. The site that once gave thousands of Jewish people hope was destroyed. God, it seemed, was no longer in the city. This was the most devastating Roman blow to Judaea. The rest of the city was plundered and burned to the ground soon after the Temple fell. The Romans crushed the remaining, beleaguered Jewish resistance. Jerusalem was under complete control of the Romans by September 70 CE. Christianity was birthed from this clash of civilizations
