And honestly, him moving it to Camp David makes it look even more suspect. It would have looked more plausible that he wasn't trying to benefit himself if they had decided to go with one of the other resorts that was supposedly on the shortlist.

Well, if Donald's not going to make a profit, nobody will.

He's retreating on Doral, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have worse assaults on our democracy planned.
I doubt he does much actual planning - he seems to work on instinct these days.

Has anyone seen this shortlist?

In a tweet announcing the decision on Saturday, he blamed the “Hostile Media and their Democratic Partners” for raising a stink over the initial choice to host the global leadership summit at his personal luxury resort in Florida.

Look everyone, democracy and a free press are working to root out corrupt self-dealing!

No, he's taking the same salary as any other modern president.

No, he gets donations from contributions like any other president. He just calls it his own money because that's what he considers it once it's donated.

This is simply not true, but it seems clear attempting to reason through it would be a waste of everyone's time.

I just looked it up and I’ll back up everything I said. Trump is taking $1 in salary. Yes he still makes money because that’s what businessmen do... He shouldn’t have to apologize for that. He doesn’t claim donation money is his own personal money, that’s ridiculous and I challenge you to back that statement up.

Follow Trump’s career. He only spends other people’s money.

I think Forbes recorded that he spent over $50 million of his own money on his campaign. Any businessman who doesn’t spend other people’s money on occasion won’t get anywhere. I personally have investors for my business, it’s the way things are done.

No, the law states how much the president's salary is. He has, however, donated that amount back to various agencies.

No, he lent his 2016 campaign some money in the beginning, but that was repaid with interest. He also hosts campaign events at his own properties at times, which gives him an income boost. He also sells stuff like MAGA hats in all his concession stands including the lobby of Trump Tower.

According to him, he is already rich, so he is using his office to get richer. I believe his sons are also doing quite well - they are investing heavily in India, working for Trump, Inc.

Lame taunt is lame.

Flaming?

I pretty much agree with everything you said except the get richer part. Trump could retire and spend the rest of his life wiping his butt with Benjamins... but he’s working and being productive because that’s who he is.

I'm sure he claims that, but the Constitution disagrees*:

"The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them."

At the time of Donald's inauguration, the presidential salary was fixed at $400 K/year, and so it has remained.

In his first year, Donald has made a big show of donating his salary to various government agencies -- often to distract from the fact that he has simultaneously slashed funding to that same agency -- but he still gets $400K/year.

Who told you otherwise? Donald himself, or one of his followers?

*Donald often disagrees with the Constitution, which I suppose makes them even.

Yes he still makes money because that’s what businessmen do... He shouldn’t have to apologize for that.

Using his position as president to make money as a businessman is an impeachable offense.

The emoluments clause is not "phony," in spite of what Donald has told you.

He doesn’t claim donation money is his own personal money, that’s ridiculous and I challenge you to back that statement up.

Remember the Trump Foundation? You're not supposed to.

Judge approves deal to close Trump Foundation

"Shocking pattern of illegality..."

"Underwood's lawsuit, filed in June, alleged that Trump used the charity for political and personal gain. Underwood is claiming that an investigation has uncovered the foundation “was little more than a checkbook for payments to not-for-profits from Mr. Trump or the Trump Organization.”"

Underwood was able to back that statement up to a judge. A pity Donald didn't have you on his defense team.

He loaned the campaign money and much was spent at Trump properties.

so he took a 400k salary and donated $399,999... are you really gonna be that picky? I hope he does cut funding. That was his campaign promise and it needs to happen. I didn’t say he uses his position to make money. If he had he’d be impeached. They’re trying to dig up anything they can to impeach him. The fact that they can’t do it despite owning the house should tell you something. I haven’t read up on this trump charity thing. It sounds allot like the Clinton and Obama money scandals... probably just politically motivated attacks from both sides. I hate politics so I’m out, I don’t even like trump... but I think we aught to let him do his job and focus on the next candidate. The democrats are gonna blow it again with their horrible nominees.

Allegedly... funny how he doesn't make a show of it anymore...

I hope he does cut funding. That was his campaign promise and it needs to happen. I didn’t say he uses his position to make money. If he had he’d be impeached.

It's looking like he tried to use it to gain political leverage... and if so, he will be impeached.

They’re trying to dig up anything they can to impeach him.

Hard not to find dirt in a swamp...

/he fact that they can’t do it despite owning the house should tell you something.

It tells me you are woefully under informed about what's happening in the House...

Live updates: The latest on the Trump impeachment inquiry - CNNPolitics

I understand when you have a TV game show host for a president, you might expect everything to be wrapped up in 22 minutes or less... allowing time for commercials... the real wheels of justice grind far slower.

I haven’t read up on this trump charity thing.

Let's remember this statement...

It sounds allot like the Clinton and Obama money scandals... probably just politically motivated attacks from both sides.

....aaaaand it's already forgotten. By your own admission you don't know about it, but you're convinced that it's just like what those people do.

I hate politics so I’m out, I don’t even like trump...

You don't have to like him to support him... you just have to hate what he tells you to hate.

but I think we aught to let him do his job and focus on the next candidate. The democrats are gonna blow it again with their horrible nominees.

Perhaps... but it's the job of Congress to acknowledge as a check on the President's power... and goodness knows he needs one. Part of that job is to investigate potential wrongdoing on his part... if Donald has indeed violated his oath of office, then it's time for Congress to do its job and hold him accountable... possibly for the first time in his life.

Should be a sight...

...don't you think?
