My favourite is Peter, and I have a ton of reasons why, but for now I'll list five(-ish):
  1. Peter was the first to recognize Jesus as the Son of God, as revealed to him by God himself -- what an honour! (Matthew 16:16-17)
  2. Peter walked on water with Jesus! (Matthew 14:22-36) I mean, imagine having the guts to ask and then hearing Jesus say that one wonderful word: 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water. 29 “Come,” he said. Wow. Come. And of course, we learn the valuable lesson of what happens when you take your eyes off of God (or waver in your faith). You sink.
  3. Peter's boldness earns him the unique position of spokesperson among the apostles. He was also part of the inner circle, along with James and John. (Who wouldn't want these two roles!). As an aside, I picture Peter becoming very annoyed -- jealous even -- at hearing John continuously call himself the apostle whom Jesus loved, ha ha. I get this, as I'm an only child...and, like Peter, I would totally want to be the favourite and closest of them all.
  4. (Matthew 16:18) Peter was the rock on which the church was built (his name literally means "rock")
  5. (Matthew 16:19) He was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven!!! Imagine that!
And I'm sneaking one in for good measure. When the Roman guards came for Jesus, Peter was ready to fight and defend (John 18:10).

Peter modelled what a Christian should be. I see myself in Peter (and I'm a girl), and I find him so relatable.

Okay...your turn.

Yeah but he also denied Christ 3 times and cut someone's ear off in an attempt to stop Christ being taken to the cross and Christ also spoke to Peter calling him Satan.

My favorite is Paul....he had a bad history but that was before being a Christian rather than while he was Christian.

Peter is cool too though :)

My dad's favourite is Paul, too. We are Greek, so Paul made a big difference in our lives. :)

By the way, I think Peter cut the ear off for the same reason we jump into fights/arguments for our friends: we love them and don't want anyone to hurt them. :)

But yeah, Paul is awesome.

I believe that's what motivated Peter but in the bigger picture he was doing wrong by trying to stop those events.

Oh for sure, and Jesus made that very clear.
Peter's heart was in the right place, he just didn't understand at the time that Jesus came to be crucified so that we may have everlasting life with Him.

John, son of thunder. The man of passion for our Lord, the man who the Lord Loved, who out lasted them all and stayed the course until the end.

And he was entrusted with taking care of Mary once Jesus departed. :)

I'd go Peter too.

But I'd mention that I have special sympathy with Thomas. After all, he doubted, but what he was being told was utterly fantastic. It was an all too human reaction to want proof. It speaks to our want of faith, yet Thomas declared "My Lord and my God". He is the great cautionary tale to the modern world. Plus, he went to India.

I would say, for me it would be Paul. As a gentile like me, I should thank Paul for working tirelessly to preach the gospel to the gentiles, even if it caused his life. Yes, he was a christian murderer who lived a pharisaic life from the beginning, but his changed of heart was so dramatically touching that one reading all of his epistles would feel it from the heart, that's rooted from his "way to Damascus". A life changing scenario that led him to his ultimate and real purpose of God's plan. We can see that Paul was not only an appointed apostle of Christ, but God gave him and entrusted him a bigger responsibilities by appointing him for the defense of the gospel. In his humility, he called himself "the least of the apostle", but God did raise him up from a "worthless sinner" to the most "prolific apostle" who have worked with so much effort until his last breathe in the prison who have boldlessly declared that "To live is Christ and to die is gain". And that he had kept the faith and have finished the race that was set before him! I have always been awed by his endurance, boldness and his total transformation, for someone who have persecuted Christianity in his early life.

"favorite"? < shrugs > I don't know.

Most recent ? Watchman Nee. Truth, Clarity, True Gospel brought to million around the world as well as in China, Discipleship unseen in most assemblies - and faithful to Yahuweh in Jesus, in truth and in harmony with all His Word in life, acts, deeds, patterns, teachings and daily speech.

And a well known martyr, spending the last 20 some years of his life (or more), in solitary confined prison in China , for His Faith, never giving up.

Well, that's hard because I don't know much about the other apostles to make that judgment. What if Thomas is more relatable to me? How would I know without any detailed record of his life, ministry, etc? We know more about Saul of Tarsus and Simon Bar-Jona than we do of any other apostle, and we feel more connected to them through that personal knowledge of them in the works about them.

I suppose some may think this is a cop out but I don't have a favorite.
I think that I can relate to each of them ( not Judas though) ,Peter because though he was brave, he also got scared, even though he did deny Jesus thrice, he still hovered around and then was ashamed and restored.

John because of his great love for Jesus,

Thomas because there were times that things seemed so incredulous he wasn't sure to believe, and was reassured.

Paul; because he was so against Jesus to begin with but after coming to meet Jesus he gave his whole life to serving Him and NEVER forgot what he was like in his past and so was eternally grateful knowing how far he had fallen yet Jesus reached him and forgave him and lifted him up.
I do love Paul for his strength in the truth and standing for it, yet he was ever humbled by his past.

The others we aren't told so much about however they all were specially chosen and followed Jesus for their whole lives regardless of the circumstances as we are to do.
May we all be worthy of that calling.

He wasn't alone on that.

Mar 16:14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

Jesus wasn't calling "Peter" Satan, He was rebuking Satan who was attempting to tempt Jesus through Peter.

The only one that was "cursed" so to speak and had Satan "in" them and never repented was Judas.

Peter also "cussed" when he denied Jesus (i'll elaborate more in my post i will post below).

My fav'rite was Paul, although i also empathize with Peter. He was a recovering "cuss-er", and he demonstrates how Jesus can use ALL of us, even when we struggle with issues. What looms out for me re: Peter is that he LOVED Jesus, foibles n' all.

I also have a special place in my heart for the two brothers, James and John, that Jesus called the "sons of thunder" hahaaaa

They were just a tad hot-headed.
