Hello everyone I could really use some advice about a situation that recently happened on Twitch which for those of you who don't know what Twitch is, Twitch is a live streaming service where someone like a gamer can livestream from their house and you talk to them through an Internet chat while they are streaming. In my particular case I am someone who enjoys watching ASMR videos. One of the streamers I won't say her name out loud but she was an ASMRtist from Germany who uploads to Youtube and does livestreams. On top of being a German citizen she was originally born in Turkey and comes from an Islamic background but abandoned the faith. Since I was someone who was a regular contributor to her Twitch and Youtube channel she decided to make me a Moderator in her Twitch chat. Well last night there was a guy who was from Turkey and was trying to get sensitive information from her like where she lived, what her social media was, etc. She then tells us the viewers that he was making her uncomfortable and she didn't want to answer his questions. Since he was making her so uncomfortable and making unwanted advances I decided to ban him from the chat. The ASMRtist later contacted me in a private message telling me that I was out of line and she was removing my mod status saying I was "overprotective." I told her that as a Christian I am not someone who tries seeking a fight, am very gentle, but stepped in to remove him because he was completely out of line. I told her it was the equivalent to a bouncer asking a very aggressive patron to leave the bar due to harassment. I also told her that while I liked her as a person I couldn't continue to support her if she doesn't have my back and that I'm leaving. I know its just a stream and its not real life but I still feel a little hurt over this. Was I in the wrong and was I overprotective?

That doesn't sound overprotective to me. Internet privacy is important.

Personally, I do not feel that you acted inappropriately in this scenario. Especially in today's day and age, you never know who is lurking on the internet and what their motives are. That person had no reason to obtain her address and other sensitive information. Had I been in your shoes, I would have done something similar, otherwise I would always be questioning if I should have done something. I would always rather err on the side of caution. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if I were you! Sending prayers your way!

There is a tradition of doing bad things to people who leave the Islamic faith. Up to honor killings. Turkey does have some ISIS extremists so I think you acted prudently. One cannot be too careful.

In Islam, the penalty for apostasy is death. Based on this and the fact that he was trying to get personal information about her whereabouts, I think you did the right thing. There are a lot of crazy people on the internet.
Wow you all have brought up some very interesting points I never even stopped to consider. Thank you Rene Loup!

I am not up with lots of things on the net but by what I have read you did exactly the right thing.
There should be more people like you who look out for others and the points the others made were very valid.
God bless you.

Not overprotective/Did the right thing.

I have been caught in my own, Sticky situations on online platforms, and even some other online forums, Until I found this one.

I don't know if you have any feelings for this girl, But, my experiences with being banned, And kicked out of things online,
Has usually stemmed from a deeper feeling, And an attraction, To the streamer.
I have both been, elevated to a certain, status,
And then demoted to a level i never wanted to be at,
Which is never fun, And also breaks your heart just a little bit. </3. </3.

In this case, I would maybe reach out to her, And so exactly what you said,
And not be a moderator for her, anymore,
Though sticking to this, And not missing the person,
Can be difficu lt ;(((

Other than that, I am not in social media, However i have found myself attrac ted to video games and have though about signing up for a twitch, account.

One of the people i was talking about, Streams on there, And he is one of the people i was referring to, That i have feelings for,
And i have met him. In person. First,
However, Over the years i can't tell if he's gotten better, Or , Worse,
And i don't know what he identifies with,
And i also ,

Had to take a step back, And email him, in private,
Away from the other people,
And tell him, that i do miss him,

But, that i cannot supp ort the current path he is taking.

It hurts like, the opposite, Of Heaven,

And i am tempted, every day, To blow up his email account,
And lets just say i may have actually,
Done, that,

But, i can't support the current path,
He is going, down.... </3. </3. </3. </3.

Anymskr,

Thank you for sharing your story and I'm really sorry that things didn't go well between you and the one gentleman that you had feelings for. I did not have feelings for the ASMRtist I used to be a moderator for but she and I did message each other on Instagram quite frequently and talked about some personal things. I actually think that this was a lesson God used to teach me and perhaps teach you about social media. What I learned was that interacting with someone through a webcam or Instagram is not a good substitute for the people in our lives who are real. I would even say that the majority of people on Twitch put on fake personas to begin with. I was certainly guilty of doing this as I caught myself at times saying things I never would say to someone in real life. I think its easy for streamers, gamers, asmrtists, etc. to hide behind a screen instead of embracing who they really are and just being a normal person. I've since moved on from Twitch. If you're still active in the twitch community I hope you find happiness as well.

Who says it didn't work out ? He still has until we both die, To make things right!! :(
I really admire your sense of idealism. When I was younger I used to feel as you do. I've learned though that unfortunately on this side of Heaven some things just can't be reconciled. If it's possible I hope that you both do reconcile someday. Otherwise the best thing to do is to cherish the best times you had and then move on
