I don’t believe in birth control for actually preventing pregnancy but what are your thoughts about birth control for acne issues or hormonal imbalances? Is it still wrong? I’m think about going on birth control for my skin and I’m on medication that would make birth defects horrible for a fetus. But mostly just wanting to clear my skin.

Hallo :)

I am not a doctor and everyone is different but I take it for years and it has helped my acne and hormones.

I think you should talk to your family doctor about this.

At home you can try natural oil free soap and face wash if you know you are not alergic. I always find the best product online. Research the well rated brands that can ship to your location. Avoid popular store brands that have chemicals. And avoid greasy food. Most of all remember that you are beautiful and loved regardless of how your pores treat you.

I Hope you find your solution :)

I have hormonal acne and no otc or prescription for acne works. The only option is accutane (which I’m not going to try) or trying birth control. I have tried every soap and acne treatment even differin. I was just wondering if it would be okay to take birth control for hormonal imbalances but not for pregnancy prevention.

Yes a lot of women take it just for hormones balance!

what about seeing a dermatologist first?
Birth control pills are one of the options a dermatologist will recommend.

I think it depends on the person. My daughter had bad acne when she was a teenager, and nothing helped very much, even accutane. Her dermatologist recommended birth control pills, and my wife and I concurred. It did a good job of clearing up her acne.

There are dangers for you if you go on birth control pills for any reason. Better to use the medications that are intended specifically to control acne.

there are physical side effects to BC pills. not spiritual....

but there also side effects for acne medication. depression and suicide is a huge risk with roaccutane.

Yes, birth control will help if you have a hormonal imbalance. Usually acne is cause by high androgens (testosterone). Bcp will help lower. Keto diet clears acne. Try that. I stopped the bcp because it lowers sex drive. No desire.. which makes sense because it stops ovulation.

First of all you should talk to your doctor about your acne first, there are side effects to taking birth control as well as it affects your hormones. Each person is going to be different and the doctor might have another medication that you may not have heard of that might work wonders.

If you’re worried about the expense of medication, you can call the number on the drug card and they’ll be able to check on their system if it’s covered.

I suppose it all depends on just how bad one's condition is or upset one is about acne. My daughter was in her twenties and it wasn't just a few pimples...let's just say it was pretty bad. We went to the dermatologist and he suggested accutane. Nothing else had worked. We went through as the doctor did the pros and cons of the drug and she wanted to go on it. Can't say if all of the concern of accutane is warranted as one side effect is sometimes people feel suicidal. I suspect (although I don't know for a fact) that reason that might be is because when you take it it brings out everything in a sense meaning you have a look that you're breaking out more but what it's doing it's pushing all the oils out.

One has to allow themselves the time and patience to get through that stage. My daughter stayed at home during the month of this time and she had strong family support . Things yes got worse....just like the doctor said they would but we kept that hope in front of us just like a star in the night time hanging on to the hope that this was the way of it and ultimately it was going to be fine. IT WAS!

After the two weeks or so of becoming bad....it started slowly but surely clearing up. Just like the doctor has said. After another week or so....more clearing up...and more and more.....until NO ACNE AT ALL! Gone! My daughter at the time was in her twenties and that was about 20 years ago. No problem with acne EVER AGAIN. Funny thing is she was a model for many years and in photo shoots make up artists have said to her she has the best skin they've ever seen a person have. She told me almost with tears if they only know what I'd gone through in the past. There was a time where she never, ever thought she'd hear somebody say something like that.

I don't tell this story to actually encourage people to take accutane. You might want to try all other measures which some might feel more comfortable with but I thought I'd like to have told my story. Keep encouraged and wishing you the best!

Unless a doctor or dermatologist recommended it, I wouldn't advise taking birth control for that purpose. I do not believe that taking birth control pills out of medical necessity is wrong, but people need to be responsible about which medications they put into their bodies.
