I'm not sure whether to post this in the Politics area or under Controversial Christian Theology, so I hope an admin can move it if it's not in the right place.
I have an older dear Christian friend who told me that there are many Christians who believe Donald Trump has been raised up by God to save our country. They realize that he is a very flawed person, but they claim he was prayed with, received Christ as his personal savior, and now he is a "baby" Christian. They tell him he is anointed by God to lead our country back to its foundations.
Rick Joyner is one of the people who I believe is leading this movement. He and his wife have a ministry called Morningstar, and he does a lot of eschatological studies, etc. I read some stuff on his website yesterday but it raised more questions than it answered.
I also did a Google search on him, and came up with links to several sites claiming he is a false prophet. The evidence I saw was not overly compelling, but I'm keeping an open mind. Some of what I read mentioned dominionist theology, which I'm not very familiar with.
Rick Joyner says that the release of the videos last Friday is God's way of humbling Trump so he can be more prepared for the role God is preparing him to fill. He compared Trump to Aaron, Moses' brother, who had to be stripped when he began his ministry. Other writers point out that God has often raised up very flawed people to lead His people to freedom.
These people are going to support Trump no matter what, because they believe he is God's anointed. I have always had great respect and admiration for this friend who was telling me some of these things, and I don't know whether to give serious credence to what she is saying or worry that she has fallen under some kind of deception.
Can anyone fill me in on some of the pieces here? Do you know who originally had this revelation? Are there a lot of evangelical Christians who believe this? What is dominion theology and what would it look like if Trump actually IS called to save our nation? What would the dominionists be expecting? Is there any possibility there is some truth in these ideas?
Any insight or feedback is greatly appreciated. And please don't just send me to Google. I've already done some of that and would rather hear from knowledgeable people on these things, if possible. Thanks much.
