This is the fourth in a series of art challenges. The purpose is to get people practicing their art. You don't have to do them in order, they are just prompts.

For this challenge submit a painting or drawing of a landscape. See what you come up with! Multiple submissions are fine. This is not a contest, just a fun activity.

Edit: The goal is to encourage people to do art, but you can also post previous pieces if they fit the theme. That way we can see more art!
Here is a link to the other community art challenges:

Hey I just finished this, it's watercolor on yupo 11x14 Calling it The Undiscovered Country because of the grave stones.

I like the level of detail in the bushes. And the sharp contrast in the color from the grass and the bushes works well, making it look vibrant, but not too saturated.

Good work.

Tried out a new watercolor canvas, it's the Hobby Lobby store brand Master's Touch. It's primed cotton 'paper' for watercolor.

I like the look of the painting. It allows for more details than the yupo. I showed my daughter and she said it reminds her of one of the trees at a park we walked at. She thought it looked great.

How did you think the paper handled? Did it take heavy washes well? Could you scrape or blot on it?

Always good to have more cotton options for watercolor available at a major retailer. Especially since Hobby Lobby is right on the way of a major route I take often.

I am a bit confused though. Is this cotton paper mounted on a board or canvas? Why is "paper" in quotes?

What sizes does this come in?

Thanks They refer to it on their website as 'Watercolor Canvas Paper Pad.' Here's a link. My pad is 12x16 but they appear to sell it 16x20 but didnt see that in store. Heres a link . Watercolor Canvas Paper Pad - 16" x 20" | Hobby Lobby | 283408 I

I like it. It comes in a pad of 10 sheets and they are paper thin and not mounted on anything. I taped it down. It didnt buckle and i used heavy washes. You can lift the pigment to get back to the white, but not as easily as yupo, but like you said you can overlay and get a lot of texture and detail. This was done with sponges and flats. It's pretty tough, but when i removed the tape it frayed at the ends, so it's real cotton canvas, but paper thin, unlike the Frederix canvas pads made for oil or acrylic which are thick and heavy. I suspect it would tear pretty easily. But for my first experience I'm really happy with it. I did try scraping it since i was afraid i would cut it since it's so thin, but ill try carefully to see if i can pick out some lights. It's cheap too! The 12x16 pad is 10.99 but I got a 40 % discount with the generic Hobby Lobby coupon anyone can download, so it's less than a buck a sheet.

Interesting, I had seen that before and not thought anything of it because I assumed it was for acrylic. I didn't look closely to notice the picture of the watercolors. I might try it out. The 1 dollar mark is important because for that much I can get the loose leaf arches paper.

Any thoughts for using that paper for graphite? My daughter often uses water color paper for such purposes, but needs a larger than usual sheet for a particular project.

I wouldn't recommend for graphite. It's gesso primed with a linen texture. It would be like drawing on a stretched canvas.

Ok, so it has the same texture as a stretched canvas, good to know.

Hi The first two are from photos I took driving thur Utah and they are watercolor on yupo. The view is of salt lake city (more residential side). We ended up hiking all the way to the top of that mountain. I included a detail. The last two were made up scenes. The tree is on primed paper (made for acrylics) and the wave is on 140 lb watercolor paper.
