From the "Long Beach", files: Trump Rids Major U.S. Container Port of Chinese Communist Control | Judicial Watch

Under a long-term deal sealed by the Obama administration, a Chinese Communist company was set to control the second-busiest container port in the United States.
...
Removing Chinese Communists from this essential port is a tremendous feat and a huge victory for U.S. national security. You’d never know it because the media, consumed with the impeachment debacle, has ignored this important achievement. The only coverage of the finalized transfer is found in Long Beach’s local newspaper, which published a brief article omitting important background information on the Trump administration’s work to take back the terminal from the Communists. The story makes it seem like a regular business transaction in which “a Chinese state-owned company, reached a deal to sell the terminal, one of the busiest in the port, for $1.78 billion.” The piece also quotes the Port of Long Beach’s deputy executive director saying that the transaction process was intricate and involved one of “our most valuable port assets.” Buried at the bottom of the article is a sentence mentioning that the U.S. government, which regulates mergers for antitrust and security reasons, stepped in and required COSCO to sell its rights to the container terminal

Good old judicial watch, can always be relied to be heavy on rhetoric and low on facts.

Low on FACTS ... from the premier organization making FOIA requests?

Judicial Watch is heavy on FACTS. Always has been.

Oh, really? Because your Judicial Watch piece says this:

It all started with a 40-year container terminal lease between the Port of Long Beach in southern California and Hong Kong. The Obama administration proudly signed the agreement in 2012 giving China control of America’s second-largest container port behind the nearby Port of Los Angeles. One of the Trump administration’s first big moves was to get the Communists out of the Port of Long Beach. After a national security review and federal intervention, the Long Beach terminal business, which handles millions of containers annually, is finally being sold to an Australian company called Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. That essentially kills China’s decades-long contract with the Obama administration.

The deal never should have been signed in the first place considering the facility’s size, significance and the national security issues associated with a hostile foreign government controlling it.

That passage makes it sound like the Obama administration championed a deal to hand over the port to the communist Chinese, which is not what happened. What happened was that Hong Kong-based OOCL signed a 40 year lease in 2012 and then in 2017, China-owned COSCO bought a majority stake in OOCL.

COSCO didn't sign the lease deal directly. Your article is dishonest nonsense.

This seems to be a regular thing. It isn't hard to find sources that are honest. You just have to try a little bit.

Amusingly enough, the first source I found for these details was a blog post from American Thinker, which is, itself, prone to exactly that sort of editorializing. How bad must a piece be when it's take is more skewed than American Thinker's?

That simply isn't true. Perhaps you could prove that to be the case in this instance? You could start out by explaining how a Taiwanese company floated on the HK stock exchange is run by 'Chinese communists?' Perhaps you could use your extensive knowledge of HK business operations under British rule and the relevant years of the 50 year agreement to back up your explanation. Then you could explain how US regulators giving the go-ahead for the actually Chinese state owned COSCO buying out elements of OOCL including control of this port in 2017? And turning down COSCO's offer to sell the lease into a US trust in 2018, as whatever relevant govt body under Trump didn't consider this step to be necessary?
As reported in the WSJ over a year ago the sale is a further step in a long term divestment plan by COSCO and has nothing whatsoever to do with Trump.
I have no qualms in pointing out that JW go well out of their way to push misleading narratives. I've watched some of their shameless 'reporting' which is essentially one long running and woefully transparent smear campaign against anyone they don't like.

Assuming your thread title is an accurate summary, this is a good thing.

But its Trumps own darn fault that its buried under impeachment news.

Reminds me of Clinton's impeachment. His admin was getting pretty aggressive against Al Quada right around when his scandal broke. It seemed to me at the time that they pulled back to avoid the appearance of "wagging the dog". 9-11 happened only a couple years later. Its possible that Clinton-BJ is connected to the tragic success of the 9-11 plot, even if just a little.

I wonder what consequences Trumps impeachable offense will have for the nation?

Trump rectified the problem

Trump had nothing to do with it. Why the obsession with trying to assign credit to Trump for things like this? What is actually wrong with taking an objective view of politics, rooted in things that actually happen?

Wow!

Not sure how one can come to that conclusion when the very title of the OP is clearly about what Trump did. Trump has been fighting against the Chinese from before he took the oath of office. Severing the port of Long Beach from Chinese control is just one more thing Trump did on that front.

He’s on the board of COSCO? They decided to sell off this particular lease over a year ago, as part of a longer term divestment strategy, as reported in the WSJ last June. What actual reason to you have to think it has anything to do with Trump? According to his own staff he has little awareness of anything that is happening in the US, do you have any sort of evidence that suggests he even knows about this issue?

Did you happen to read the linked article in OP?

Yes, it offers no evidence whatsoever of Trump having anything to do with it.
Perhaps you missed this?
... the U.S. government, which regulates mergers for antitrust and security reasons, stepped in and required COSCO to sell its rights to the container terminal.
