I can go to the recycle station and get rid of what I want to get rid of, it costs me nothing.
All those products you bought (and then recycled), the cost of making them without just dumping toxic waste into the river was passed on to you in the price of the product, or to the investor in reduced dividend.

Don,t know if I,m understanding you.

Of course the manufactoring cost determine the price.

Do you think it costs less and uses less energy by manufactoring electric cars?

I have more rubbish today than for say, twenty years ago.

Almost everything is packeted ib plastic, and welded,

so instead of a canopener I need a packet opener.

But just as serious as far as I can tell is,
resources, how long will they last?

Tyres for example, the world over, how many,
hard to think of.

Shoes, over seven billion pairs of shoes if each has only one pair.
and so on,
we cannot keep taking without putting anything back.

Plant more trees.

Fortunetly these are only mild wonderings on my part.

I do what I can as many others also do.

Some people here think Greta Thunberg is a joke, or should be treated like such. I don’t get it. Why do some people here find her worthy of ridicule?

I agree. She had the courage to speak the truth about a matter that concerns the future of the world. Here is a link to a video that another young woman did, mimicking Greta's style, but addressing the religious leaders of the world. Brace yourself!

She's right - materialism, avarice and human wickedness - has brought us to the brink of the End Times. Climate Change will wreak havoc! It will create potentially billions of refugees, resource wars and famines. I think it's all predicted in the Bible, including what apperas to be a nuclear winter.

As for her attitude however, well she's ill mannered and disrespectful.

I understand that her 'school strike' began as a publicity stunt for her mother's book, and that lots of kids were understandably eager to participate...

Sure. The truth hurts, no matter where it comes from. “Out of the mouths of babes”... who said that?

David.

Psalms 8:3,

"Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have established might to counter Your enemies,
to silence foe amd avenger".

(The wonders of childbirth and nursing demonsrate God,s existence to non believers)
standard commentry.

She's reacting to strongly established science, and kind of shaming the world leaders who'd sit on their hands.
Science falsely called. Has even one prediction made by the man-made-global-warming brigade ever proven correct? If she had some basic science background, she would likely realise the bogeyman she fears doesn't exist.

World leaders who know anything about climate science should only feel pity for this child who is being used for political purposes.

Every single teen that is active on this site, participated . and we still do. We do so, not because we have an interest in anyone's book, but because we are concerned at the lack of assertive policy that addresses the recommendations from the census of climate scientists.

We are concerned about our very survival and that of our children.

I suppose it's because she's a child chastising adults for things she doesn't really understand.
She understands well enough - your statement suggests only adults can understand the recommendations from the international census of climate scientists - that is incorrect and I defy anyone here to cite where exactly she misquoted or erred in her reflections on those recommendations.

In fact, she is substantially more informed than the adult that stands impotently on the topic. I say substantially because, as you perhaps imply, she isn't a well-researched climate scientist - nor are you or any other detractor here. I would argue, that most intelligent people can understand the recommendations provided by the international climate consensus. It was written in a language that even adults on the CF site can understand.

Easy...this is from her UN speech...

The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50% chance of staying below 1.5 degrees [Celsius], and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control

The science says otherwise....

What Would Happen To The Climate If We Stopped Emitting Greenhouse Gases Today?

even if carbon emissions stopped completely right now, as the oceans catch up with the atmosphere, the Earth’s temperature would rise about another 1.1F (0.6C). Scientists refer to this as committed warming. Ice, also responding to increasing heat in the ocean, will continue to melt. There’s already convincing evidence that significant glaciers in the West Antarctic ice sheets are lost. Ice, water, and air – the extra heat held on the Earth by carbon dioxide affects them all. That which has melted will stay melted – and more will melt.

So if we're at 1.5 degrees increase right now....and a 100% stop in carbon emissions would result in another 0.6 degree increase....

Then realistically, we're talking about 3-4 degrees increase over the next 50 years, because no one can just stop military development, or international commerce, or mass transit without significantly crippling their nation's safety or economy.

So yes....she's utterly clueless, yammering about stuff she doesn't understand.

Then there's the naivete of talking to UN leaders about this as if the problem begins and stops with the wealthiest and most industrious nations. You know what the most polluted city is, right?

What it’s like to raise children in the world’s most polluted capital

Yup...the capital of Mongolia. Not because it's incredibly wealthy...but because it's poor. Seriously. It would take dumping a lot of money and time into building up the infrastructure around a clean energy source to fix that problem. It's not a 10 year project....it's more like a 20+ year project. You know how many cities like that across the globe there are???

Climate change needs to be viewed as less something to "stop" and more something "inevitable".

My role, and that of other teens, is to regard your view, and people that utter such views as enemies. Your views and actions threaten our existence.

I understand you well. You affirm, like many that you have no intention of supporting assertive policies that are in line with scientific recommendations.

That makes you, my and my children's enemy.

Sure lol...I guess you're posting this from your magical wax tablet that can connect to the internet.

Unless you plan on moving to a mud yurt in the woods and forsaking all electricity and heat, you're only kidding yourself.

You understand nothing....I do support policies in line with scientific recommendations. I always have. I'm just smart to know they'll not be enough....just like every recommendation before.

That makes you, my and my children's enemy.

If you already have kids, you're a bigger part of the problem than me.

Oh this is an olddddddd tactic - we know about that one pfffft - you oldies are like - oh yeah you will take us back to the BC era - news for you grandpa - you can use your tech and electricity. I mean why am I even explaining the obvious to you - what's wrong with you that you don't get that.

We just expect the use of energy sources that don't emit CO2 - But you know that ya trickly lil belligerent you

You understand nothing....I do support policies in line with scientific recommendations. I always have. I'm just smart to know they'll not be enoug

Well that's good - so why all the poncing around saying - WE CANT DO ANYTHING - WE CANT DO ANYTHING - yes we can and must

f you already have kids, you're a bigger part of the problem than me.

No I don't - But truly - why aren't you concerned for the future generations - why????

But look - whatever your position we don't care - We've had enough of your generation's refusal or denial or "Don't Care - isms" We understand your points. You don't like the teen activism - You don't agree with doing anything about climate change.

OK fine we get it - That's why we teens disregard you. Your opinion has no value to us. You've had your chance to do something and have chosen not to.

So fine

Oh clearly....you're living in a photovoltaic house and your car is basically a big wind turbine. No?

I mean....I don't want to be the one to tell you that's just trading one problem for another, but wind turbines break. Photovoltaic cells wear out and need replaced. What do you think people will do when the resources for those turn scarce?

Well that's good - so why all the poncing around saying - WE CANT DO ANYTHING - WE CANT DO ANYTHING - yes we can and must

Who says we can't do anything? Stop wasting money rebuilding these places where hurricanes blow over half the houses every year. Stop allowing the flow of millions of illegal immigrants into the country from those nations affected by devastating climate change. Place limits on childbirth in our own nation.

No I don't - But truly - why aren't you concerned for the future generations - why????

They're doomed. What exactly is there to be concerned about?

But look - whatever your position we don't care - We've had enough of your generation's refusal or denial or "Don't Care - isms" We understand your points. You don't like the teen activism - You don't agree with doing anything about climate change.

1. You don't understand activism. You don't have any power (because you lack wealth and the few who can vote don't vote). You don't have any leverage. What are you going to do? Refuse to go to school? That's just going to leave a generation of adults too uneducated to compete in the real world.

Teen activism?? Please. Do all the teen activism you want.

OK fine we get it - That's why we teens disregard you. Your opinion has no value to us. You've had your chance to do something and have chosen not to.

What have you chosen to do?

The stages of climate denial, according to me:
1. climate's not even changing.
2. ok the climates changing but its totally natural
3. ok humans are causing it but theres nothing we can do about it
4. ok, there's some solutions, but boy youre going to hate them.

and so on.....
