Hi prayer warriors,

I would like to know God personally instead of just know about Him.
I am a believer but I think I can grow in my personal knowledge of God.

At the end of the day - this is all of our true purposes, isn't it?

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps 1st John (5 chapters).... as written, is written to baby born again believers
"so YOU CAN KNOW" ...... Delightful Revelations to Ekklesia from our Father ....

========================================
New International Version
But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:

New Living Translation
In fact, it says, “The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach:

English Standard Version
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);

If you have received His Holy Spirit given through His Son Jesus Christ of Nazareth, then you know Him personally. You are in the Body of Christ. There is no other way or degree to know Him.
Blessings

 This is a precious prayer, Starry. Praying with you and for you that God reveals His precious Father-heart for you, and that He blesses you as He shows you what this verse below means, and that HIS joy is your strength, and may He show you how prayers like this one delight Him, bless Him, and bring a smile to His very heart. Father may it be so, in Jesus name, amen. (((hug)))

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." ~Zeph 3:17

"the joy of the LORD is your strength." ~Neh 8:10

Look at Him ... to Him ... a perfect father. He knows you, loves you and wants a close relationship with you ... wants what is best for you.

Study His Word continuously ... doing that and through prayer ... one becomes closer and closer with Him.

God Bless ... continue in Jesus AMEN!

I've taken comfort in the passages below, knowing that God doesn't expect more of us then we can give, yet He does expect us to do that which we're able to do. Be faithful to what you know of His will, trust His promises, and seek Him more yet. This is a true, living faith- and you will not be ashamed and your labor of faith will not be in vain when you walk in and continue in a living faith in Christ. It is in the times when He is silent and seems withdrawn so that we need to rely only on His Word that are the times when the purest gold is produced when we indeed take him at His Word.

John 14:21-24: "21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."

"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:13)

I read the Bible every day.Still don't know Him.

Hi StarryEyed,

May I ask what your current understanding is about what it is to "know" God rather than to "know about Him"?

Peace.

Hi 2Philo,

Good question. :)
I am not really sure tbh.
All I know is that I don't know Him and often doubt His existence.

No problem. I've been in those shoes before, and one of my family members, in his own way, is experiencing a similar feeling about it all at this moment too.

So, what is it you think you'd like to happen or feel in regard to God or His love in Christ?

It seems to me you may be longing to know Him as a child knows a loving Father. I believe that is what He wants for you!

IF you are very healthy I would suggest a 24 hour water only fast with prayer asking to feel Him close to you and to be shown whatever block there may be. If fasting is not a good option, then I would simply ask Him to know what the impediment is. That you are reading the Word daily is great. Do you also talk to Him through your days and nights as Your loving ever present Friend, and praise Him (we are told to praise far more than we are told to pray)?

There were two men who were very good at Practicing The Presence of the Lord, that I know of. One was a missionary to the Philippines, Frank Laubach. One was called Brother Andrew. Both said the same thing. Just talking to the Lord ongoing day and night gets you into His glorious Presence. That sounds so easy. It is way hard. I am still working on consistency on it myself. Only through prayer can we do it. But, I have learned that when I do it, those two men are right, there is a joy and a richness like nothing in this world can offer. It seems to be what you are longing for, what we should all long for.

Laubach Himself said that Practicing the Presence consistently was very hard, but that then everything else in life becomes easy!

The truth is we all need to get closer and closer to the Father. I pray for a close and wonderful walk between you and the Father.

I am a believer but I think I can grow in my personal knowledge of God.

That would probably include all of us?
Some do seem to have a better grasp.
Jesus will not lose one
that the Father has given to him.
He will see us through.
Some quickly some slowly.

I find the Sanctification Process
to be a rough one at times..

Hi prayer warriors,

For me, I pray a lot, I find that I don't know God personally, I don't know His will at any given time. I might get an impression about what He wants me to pray for, or he might direct me to particular scriptures, or the like. But knowing God is knowing His word the bible, and acting on it.

That said He some times shows me what choice to make in important decisions as an example, here is some text off my website describing such an example:

On the 10 of October 2012 the LORD prevented us from making a bad financial decision. Me and my wife had found a house that we thought could be a good investment for our future. But our pastor prayed about it and felt that it was not going to be a good investment. So I prayed that if it was not a good investment God would get the bible to open randomly to James 4:13-15, otherwise the bible would open to the verse in Mal 3:10 about God blessing our finances. I opened my bible on the computer and moved my hand quickly and randomly, first selecting a book of the bible, then a verse, all without looking where I was choosing, and it opened to James 4:13-15 so I knew that God did not want us to go ahead. Jas 4:13-15 “Some of you say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to some city. We will stay there a year, do business, and make money." Listen, think about this: You don't know what will happen tomorrow. Your life is like a fog. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away. So you should say, "If the Lord wants, we will live and do this or that."
