Adriana Cohen: Ellen DeGeneres and George W. Bush show us how to be tolerant, respectful and kind

In a deeply polarized nation, Ellen DeGeneres deserves praise for practicing tolerance toward others and not choosing her friends based on how they vote -- an anomaly these days, especially in far-left Hollywood and the #Resistance movement, whose rabid followers have allowed their political persuasions to extinguish any semblance of civility, open-mindedness and respect for different points of view.

Too bad more of Trump's Christian supporters don't watch Ellen.

Ellen, GWB, and the Obamas (at past events) show us what it means to live together as Americans.

Many ... could learn from their example ...

The lady is strong and does not bow down to the radical political left.

She should be given much credit.

There will be many more to follow in her footsteps.
Some of the blinders are being removed.

Oh look - a partisan attack on a thread about tolerance - by the OP. If only that were a surprise.

Well that was a needlessly partisan attack in a thread supposedly praising someone for being open minded and tolerant of differing views.

GWB is an interesting case.

On the one hand, he did seem like a decent man, personally, as president. He's like Obama in this regard. Even if you hate their policies, both were dignified and on a strictly personal level, basically decent.

On the other hand, Bush's outrageous fecklessness cost hundreds of thousands of lives. He seemed like a willing tool of neo-con war-adventurers, at an enormous monetary, personal, and moral cost to our country, let alone to the other states involved.

I guess, at the end of the day, its the decent man youre sitting down with, regardless of his horrific errors.

Thats absurd.

Your whole point was to laud Ellen for putting aside political differences when interacting personally. Now youre suggesting she doesnt even have political differences.

Probably
That's one big hug there.
Are the Obama's still blaming Bush?
M-Bob

....the point being, being kind and civil to political opponents doesn't mean one is going to vote for them. Of course in the era of Trump, I can understand how that concept is lost.

Should, because of tolerance, Person A, who is black, be a friend with Person B, in which Person B believes interracial marriage is wrong, and Person A shouldn’t be given the freedom to marry someone who isn’t black? Does tolerance mean Person A should be a friend with the very person seeking to deny them a liberty to decide for themselves who to marry?

For some, tolerance has its limits, and one such limit is friendship with someone adhering to the belief the other friend shouldn’t have the same freedom and liberty.
