I know it isn’t legal to do so... but I have great concerns about the country being continually led by people with short shelf lives.

Keep in mind that the shelf lives are not as short as they once were.

But the cognitive decline has not been getting later, just the death dates of the body.

Then maybe they should have some kind of test to ensure someone is still mentally suited to be president. No this does not mean that people agree with them.

yes, definitely

believe 65 should cut-off for running

also believe anyone over 65, needs to take driving test every 5 yrs as older people are making our roads unsafe (in our town)

I disagree with any age requirements. I can agree with your idea. My thought, during the annual physicals the president gets, we require screenings for Alzheimer's and dementia. If there is evidence of those issues, though likely with a second screening by different doctors, then the 25th Amendment is "automatically" invoked and the Vice President takes over as President.

Reagan definitely showed signs of dementia in his 2nd term. He was 70 when he took office.

The 3 top running Dems are all 70 or over. Our current prez is also over 70.

so should there be an age limit or just mental check-ups?

Medical check ups at least. Maybe age limits.

But either approach will probably require a constitutional amendment; the 2nd one definitely will.

Yes, because currently there is only a minimum age.

Sure how about the age of 121.

Seriously though, no, there is no reason for extra Constitutional age discrimination. If a person is mentally sound then that person should be allowed to serve. By mentally sound I mean they are not actually senile or clinically insane completely understood solely in the medical sense. Some people would like mentally sound to mean agreeing with their political POV as they cannot conceive of a sane person disagreeing with anything they believed to be correct. If the voters judge someone to be too old they will not vote for that individual and people are too old at different ages than other people. Age is a number: being old is an attitude.

That's one reason there should be a max. age limit. When we elect someone that old we have to be considering 8 yrs. in office, not 4.
I think it should be somewhere between 65 and 68.
