I know a man who says he is a christian. He is greatly involved in his church. Musically gifted he trains the choir brilliantly. He us helpful and good to all, a nicer man is hard to imagine. Dependable and big hearted.
Yet, he told me many times his wife shows him no affection. I thought this very strange. Then it became clear why. Over their marriage he has cheated on her numerous times. She stayed with him but does not trust him.

A true follower of Jesus Christ would never do that. I know we all sin but really? To make a mistake or two is one thing. To break your wife's heart like that and make sex into a meaningless act and selfish pleasure over and iver again is another. I am not judge but i now view this man without respect. It is between him and God.. Surely he cannot call himself a Christian though?

Is sex just sex, or is there more, or much more to it than that...?

Oh and yes, what the man did or is still doing is very wrong, if he is still doing it/that, but, has he repented, and repented to his wife and God...?

God Bless!

He shouldn't be telling you about problems with his wife. That is wrong and might mean he's trying to lead you astray.

My question is, why is he talking to another female about his marital problems? This in itself is completely inappropriate. Set boundaries with him and ask him to seek counsel from a pastor.

How convenient of him to bring up his lack of affection from his wife with another woman.

Sex is one of the biggest causes for upset in a marriage and a lot of people eventually falter as a result. It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't a similar seed he planted in to conversation with the last women he cheated with.

As for whether or not he's a Christian, not for us to say. By their fruits and all that, but still, far worse than him can repent before it's too late.

By repented I mean has he stopped doing it, seeking it, ect...? Willing to fully recommit himself to his wife, and his wife alone, ect...? Including emotional cheating ect...?

God Bless!

"By their fruits ye shall know them"
enough said;)
Heavenhome has summed this up perfectly.

In Paul's letter to the Corinthians, he stated they could have a faith sufficient to move mountains, but if they had no love then they would gain nothing. Love is the fulfilment of the law.

The man described by the OP may outwardly be living what appears to be a respectable Christian life, he may be able to quote the Bible, and believe the correct things about Jesus. He may give to his church and have a successful ministry. But if he does not love God or love his neighbour, or treat his wife well, sadly in the end it will count for nothing. The way we treat others is the fullest expression of what we believe.

I hasten to add he is now an old man! He just likes to chat now and again as a neighbour. No threat to any woman now thank goodness.
I just think how sad and utterly wrong for him to have hurt his devoted wife. She loves him and kept her marriage. No true Christian would hurt someone in this way. What does it profit a man to do this? Surely it injures the soul of all involved.

We all sin like you said. What each of us struggle with will vary ... and yes many times we repeat the same sin, unfortunately. Story of David comes to mind..

We all sin like you said. What each of us struggle with will vary ... and yes many times we repeat the same sin and/or do something worse, unfortunately. Story of David comes to mind in this case. "A man after Gods own heart"

Trust is paramount in a marriage ... once a trust is broken it takes a long long time to be repaired ... this lady has a lot to consider and pray about. I'm sure it is difficult for her.

No doubt the Lord is working on him ... no doubt satan is working on him.

Satan attacks a christian unrelentlessly ... because that happens doesn't make one less christian than anyone else. Doesn't make one a "false christian".

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Personally, I don't question someones salvation nor their
"christian status" rather encourage them in their walk with the Lord. I will also at times provide scripture in relation to what is going on and pray for them.

May the Lord work in these two lives and bring them peace. Amen

Unfortunately Christians do cheat on their spouses, which does not make it ok. Has he sought his wife's forgiveness or are they continuing on as though nothing has happened?

My husband and I know a Christian who cheated on his wife. He's serving a jail sentence now, as a minor was involved.

Also, do you talk to his wife?
Well they have a truce. I think she accepted his behaviour a long time ago. Forgave him enough to maintain their marriage. I don't know her well. Shes miserable, for good reason. But it's a long marriage. Both old.

All of life is a deal. A compromise after all.
But i think he is disgraceful.
