Love my cat. Been with me over 10 years since a kitten, and grew to be that cat I always wanted.
Got some attitude, bites my calves if I walk past him when he wants something, makes the best pillow for my head when I am sad. Does not suffer dogs to sleep in my (his) bed at night. Curled up in his favorite basket, licking his chops after eating a bird he caught lol.

Beautiful! We had a black cat, he was a character, he would retrieve a toy mouse every evening until we lost it. He wasn't interested in the replacement, and brought a dead mouse in that he had caught and dropped it at my feet! So we played tossing cat biscuits for supper instead.

Love cats, but I always have to have short hairs. My asthma won't let me be around long hairs.

Have you actually experienced more severe reactoins to longhaired cats? FYI it is not the fur you react to.

Shorthaired cats are cuter anyway.

We're in the suburbs here, but still the road is cruel. Truffey also doesn't have front claws, I'm sad to say, and his eyesight and smell is not 100% due to the fire, so it's also for his own protection. And we have woods here, and plenty of deer and rodents, and he would pick up ticks like a magnet if I'm not careful about where he goes.

The harness works very well. Walking a cat is definitely different than walking a dog. It's more stop and go. But he's learning to respond to my call and slight tension on the lead. It's to the point that often he will moan because he wants to go out so badly, and he's begun to do his duty outside too, which is welcome.

You listed several reasons NOT to let him go outside. Even with a harness, it is NEVER okay to let any cat who is declawed touch concrete and dirt. If his vision and smell are not good, he really needs to stay in to avoid harm. You absolutely should have kept Truffey inside only. There is no reason cats should go out.

Almost died from Asthma as a child because we got a long hair. I wasn't sure it was the cat, till I had another asthma attack only when I got too close to the cat and was petting it up to my face.

If your asthma is that bad, having a shorthaired cat would not make a difference.

I am not superstitious, but there is one time when black cats really are bad luck: when they shed where a person allergic to cats lives. The reason for this is black absorbs all heat, so they are hotter and need less fur on their skin, which results in shedding more often.

We also had a coyote. Packs of dogs are possible, but I've never seen one here. We did have a large bear a few months ago, but I suppose the cat could outrun it, though it can't climb trees. As a kid I had a cat that chased a rabbit across the road. Car came along and each wheel nabbed one animal. Not sure how natural selection works into that, but in any case it has no place for a house pet.

Natural selection is the coyote killing the cat. It is well-known that cats are coyote prey.

Our favourite cat was a Siamese called Chloe.
They're beautiful! But I got to be honest, they never liked me. Veeeery fiesty! Then again, I never got to know one either, all ours were the strays whom loved to mingle with the rest of our barn variety mouse-runners, averaging 4-cats at any given time for years.

It depends on the cat. Unfortunately most people look at cats with the pointed coat pattern and just think they are Siamese even though the breed has several cousins. Siamese cats were used to make other cats with the same pattern. Decades ago Siamese cats had different heads, then two head shapes, and fans of the breed with a different head shape now breed for it exclusively as Thai cats.

He's a LapTop cat though - I can NOT get any work done at a laptop if he is around lol.

I read a joke column once a long time ago. It was low-tech definitions for high=tech words. The only one I remember is "Laptop: where you kitty sleeps."

Our favourite cat was a Siamese called Chloe. Cats are so friendly and cuddly. Do you like cats?

I've had both, and strongly prefer dogs.
Our dog and cat got along fine. But good riddance to the cat.
Our leather couch took top priority over occasional feces hostility.
If the cat didn't get his way he'd leave hostile bombs where we sit.

That is 100% the human's fault. Cat scratch furniture because people don't train them to use other stuff - which is very cheap, quick, and easy. The reasons feline feces can be found on a couch include things the person did, which is, again, totally the person's fault. Why do you want to blame the cat for what PEOPLE did wrong?

Cats are helpful in catching mice and rats!

That is why the Egyptians domesticated them. They started keeping cats to get rid of annoying rodents.

Many dog lovers say that, but thousands of Americans have both cats and dogs and love both equally. All you need is the desire to adopt (not buy!) a kitten. Right now I don't have that desire, but unlike in 2016, I will not let myself live a whole year without adopting kittens when the time comes.
