Quick question, but something I've been wondering. Is social media destroying Christianity?

Obviously I don't believe this to mean, Facebook/whatever platform will bring down the Church, but Christianity as a whole is about getting out into the community and being a literal presence amongst people.

With social media, yes our message can reach farther, but is it really about the message or more about the conduct?

1 John 3:17-18

I would say the tendency for some to retreat to their phone/computer to post about God hates sin, or Jesus loves you does little to actually affect change and thus the shift from doing to saying (or really in this case typing) has a detrimental affect on true Christianity.

I agree that our faith is to be lived, an active embodiment of the love of Christ and good works in the world. But, I think for some people, and for various reasons, the internet is their one way to reach out. Maybe they are homebound or uber-introverted or some such thing. But barring those kinds of situations, yes, we should be out living it for the world to see.

Communication is not destroying anything. But it does change the landscape of communication and how ideas spread.

Like anything else, the Internet is a tool. One has to consider what it can do and what its dangers are, and learn to use it safely and productively. Social media has the capacity to encourage endless debate, argument, and acrimony, and even when it is good it can lure one away from local fellowship. But it can also reach the otherwise unreachable - whether that be due to geography, being housebound, fear of church, or having the desire to remain anonymous.

Each one of us should spend time in prayer and contemplation on how we use the Internet, and whether we are spending our time wisely, according to all the above parameters. It's an easy thing to get wrong. But if we do it correctly the Internet is an amazing tool that can - and should - be used for God's purposes.

Well, in Scripture it is written that society is pernicious (death dealing, evil, wicked, deceptive).
Social media is a big part of society. Go ahead and include politic, hollywood, other entertainment, banks, drug corporations, social charities and groups, etc etc etc to see how far reaching the truth of Scripture is.

Our Father in Heaven is well able to preserve His Church, so, never fear.
In one sense yes....
But in another sense, be aware, as written,
"Be terrified lest any one of Ekklesia falls through the temptations of their own sin" etc etc other warnings throughout the NT > TO > Believers in Jesus who ARE BORN AGAIN (EKKLESIA) ....
(a) very true and real danger(s) revealed by the Father to warn us.....
