Request To All Orthodox Bishops In America To Take Action Against False Teachings

..." We thank God for you, our shepherds, and look to your paternal wisdom on a matter that causes us distress. Many of us in the laity and in holy orders have grown increasingly concerned about what began as a quiet, though seemingly determined movement within Orthodoxy, to introduce a heterodox understanding of same-sex attractions and other related matters. Well, it'll be interesting to see how Orthodox brethren handle of this in the long run ... :dontcare:

I personally haven't noticed a movement within Orthodoxy to normalize same sex unions or to change Orthodox teaching on the matter. Quite the opposite, actually. I've seen Orthodoxy as one of the last great strongholds.

it is, and the Church won't fail, but souls are being damaged by this nonsense.

This man brought a corrupted icon of the Theotokos to a Gay Pride Parade.

Serbian Orthodox apparently, and openly homosexual. You can watch his explanation for carrying his 'icon' here.

Lord have mercy.
Wow! Shame on him. He talks about going to Church; I hope his priest doesn't allow him to partake in the Eucharist. He then quotes 1 John 1:8 and talks about all of us being sinners and the Church is where we go to find peace, be healed, and for reconciliation. True! But we repent of our sin and don't openly endorse it and practice it like he does. He doesn't seek reconciliation or healing: he's seeking to be allowed to continue to sin.

That "icon" is so insulting!

Practically the same arguments as mainline Protestants

I attend a Serbian Orthodox parish. If that guy carried that abomination into our church and spoke about his gayness, he would be running for the hills from Father!!!

The tone and language he uses regarding adultery is also very suspect. He says regarding the woman caught in adultery, that "adultery was seen as a sin." He then says Christ "believes that is a sin." The way he says "was seen" and "believes that" with his body language, facial expression, and tone suggests that he doesn't agree with that either.

I confess to having a functional reverence towards the icons but what this foolish person is doing seems outright dangerous. I pray that a sobering realization of fear of the Lord will bring him to his senses & repentance ( Proverbs 14:27).

It reminds me of the ironic iconic portrayals on Catholic Apologist Trent Horn's book cover "Counterfeit Christs" (which I haven't read but have seen advertised).

But I will say this: Believe me, the Orthodox Church has it pretty good when it comes to teaching against homosexual relationships, at least of now - as someone who has been in Roman Catholicism, I would say that many don't know what a real attack and attempted change in dogma looks like.
In Roman Catholicism, there are actual movements led by loud and influential priests to change the dogma; the most notable of which is Father James Martin, a Jesuit who has the ear and complicity of the Pope.

I don’t want to sound petty, but even that book cover, though noble in its aim, bothers me. Iconography is so sacred, so beautiful, so fundamentally holy in itself that such a cover entails a certain level of blasphemy to make a point.

It isn't much different to a slide that one of my daughter's lecturers put up, where Karl Marx's head and Das Kapital replaced Christ's head and the Gospels in a Pantocrator icon. It wasn't much longer before she dropped the course. Not before she had asked the lecturer what on earth it was that caused him to believe it was an acceptable image.
