How do I know my thoughts are from god or Satan?
It takes time to learn to discern, but for a beginner:

The first basic rule is, does the thought produces the fruit of the Spirit? Also, satans thoughts cause a lot of anxiety and confusion. God's thoughts (or dreams) even while scary are under the fruits of the Spirit. God also confirms His thoughts/voice.

For example, if God says, read x verse, I read it, then suddenly through out the day or next days the same verse will pop up from someone else, the pastor will give a message on the verse, someone will text it to me out of the blue.

I just assume that I'm behind them all. But like @Job3315 said when one is from the Lord it tends to get backed up from the same verse from scripture cropping up repeatedly over the next few days.

However, as much as I don't like to advocate relying on feelings, I tend to find that there is a certain amount of peace and clarity when something is from the Holy Spirit, or an impulse to do something in accordance to scripture like loving someone. I've noticed that after the fact that some other things must have been the Lord's guidance from the sheer near impossibility of things working out they way they did on their own.


For example, one day I had the exact amount of money in my purse to buy a group ticket. My friend and I could have got two single tickets for cheaper. I bought a group ticket instead only to get a phone call while on the bus to stop in a place on the route to help someone in an unfortunate situation. When we got there it was at the exact right time for her to be released and she had no cash on her so it was very fortunate we bought the ticket we did. The Lord had pre ordered our steps, even down to the amount of money in my purse.

If your thoughts result in love, peace, joy, and promote gentleness, kindness, patience, faithfulness, self control, and have goodness about them, then we can be assured that they are more likely to come from God than Satan.

Why do your thoughts have to be from one or the other? The great majority of your thoughts, I believe, are your own. The one's from God move you toward Him and bring you more and more into accord with His wisdom, truth, and commands. The thoughts insinuated into your mind by the devil are the opposite. They drive you away from God into sin.

If the Father Creator Sovereign Almighty lets you know, you know.
Otherwise we /no one/ knows.

His Word is always truth, so anything contrary to His Word is not from Him.

And the God of peace will be with you.

If you are doing this your thoughts will be from God.

Of course anything conflicting with the Bible's wisdom is not from the Father. "If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask and it will be given generously without finding fault." But we are told not to waver on that. Just ask. You're faulty - like all of us - so you qualify! Praise and pray and then drop it.

Wait awhile, maybe even a few days. Things likely will become clear to you then.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us. These forums are great for sharing burdens, and venting. I encourage you to invoke to the Holy Spirit through prayer and ask Him for the gift of discernment to discover if those thoughts are from God. If what you discern gives you peace, joy, solitude, in some cases prudence, if you discover is God’s Will, so those thoughts come from God. However if those thoughts causes you anxiety, doubt, jealousy, fear, depression, temptation, anger, rage, pride, envy, addiction, infirmity, etc. that comes from the enemy. Let me tell you my friend that Jesus give you the power to rebuke them. For example you can say: I bind you (name the thought impurity, resentment, vengeance, pride, infirmity etc.) I bind you and command you to leave me, in Jesus Name. I hope this helps. I will keep you in my prayers, my brother in Christ.

If none of this speaks to you, dont be concerned.

When we are determining whose behind certain thoughts, it can be difficult to have God's peace and joy when things are difficult. It may take getting alone with Him. We can trust Him because Jesus said. "I leave the gift of peace with you—my peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous!" TPT Joh 14:27. It doesn't necessarily mean the situation is going to change or change immediately.

Yes we definitely can rebuke the enemy in Jesus' name.
