Wrongly Convicted, They Had to Choose: Freedom or Restitution

Since being arrested for a 1991 murder in Philadelphia, Mr. Dennis has maintained his alibi — that he was on a bus — and his innocence. But not until 2016 did a federal appeals court tell the state to start a new trial or release Mr. Dennis.

Neither happened. Instead, prosecutors offered Mr. Dennis a deal: sign a plea of no contest to third-degree murder and he could leave prison instantly. If he declined, a new trial would most likely take years.

The deal gave the city a potential out. Without an affirmative finding that he was innocent, the city would later argue, Mr. Dennis should not be able to bring a civil suit seeking payment for his years in prison.

They never want to admit wrong and railroad people to conviction. This reminds me of the Noura Jackson case (I read about it in the book "Charged: The New Movement to Transform American Prosecution and End Mass Incarceration" by Emil Bazelon), she was convicted of murdering her mother and as the case fell apart, they gave her an Alford plea deal so they could save face. While I think police reform is an important issue, I believe criminal justice reform, especially with regards to prosecutorial misconduct, is a bigger issue.

She Was Convicted of Killing Her Mother. Prosecutors Withheld the Evidence That Would Have Freed Her.

I'm inclined to agree.

Another proof that the love of money is the root of all evil.
They convicted Jesus even though He Always Did What the Father Told Him To Do.(or because He Did , Always, What the Father Told Him To Do, willingly and without any doubt nor hesitation - perfect obedience)....

Part of the problem is that prosecutors want an easy out. Someone gets it in their head that this person did the deed and withhold evidence and all kinds of other tactics to get a quick conviction.

Never mind that if they actually are innocent, the REAL perp is still out there on the loose.

Actually HE was guilty as charged. It was against Roman law to claim kingship unless it was bestowed by Caesar.

Are You saying it was legal according to Roman law to claim Kingship?

Do you not remember the chant "We have no king but Caesar?"

Luke 23:2
And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

John 19:12
As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, “If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.

John 19:15
So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate *said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.

Acts 17:7
and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”
