Hey hey
I want to explore this whole netiquette subject - as well as what was posted in this thread.
I noticed that there were multiple lists from different sources. Some lists seem slightly different to others. Who is the authority on netiquette and why should i follow it?
Also please answer my previous post as i could not help but notice one detail of netiquette:
"Don't simply ignore a question because you don't want to give the answer."
Cheers
Let's start at the end.
Why should you follow [netiquette]? Well, for the same reason you would try to follow any societal rules... because it furthers friendly interactions.
The "authority" on netiquette would be the community where you interact. There are general lists of do's and dont's... but there are no fixed rules or laws. Consideration is important. Consider if what you did is "right", and consider why other people would consider it "wrong".
Some "rules" differ from place to place, from situation to situation. Still, most of these guidelines are reasonable, and you should be able to understand what to do and refrain from by just a little bit of thinking.
One of the guidelines that can differ, but that you should be aware of is the so-called "necroposting" or "thread necromancy". That relates to posting in threads that do no longer have active participation and in most cases, haven't had for years.
Like this one here. The last regular post was made in 2011. Eight years ago.
Now there are some disagreements whether to continue a "dead" thread or to start a new conversation
if new relevant points come up or responses are made.
In your case though, there wasn't any relevant point. There wasn't even a relevant remark. You just took some snippets from some old posts of mine and quoted them. Without any meaning, without questions, comments... anything.
Consider: would you act in this way in any other setting? Would you go to your local supermarket, stand there and shout "Employee X said they are out of beans, eight years ago."? Well, perhaps
you would.
But that is not polite, and it is not reasonable.
