I had to rebuke a friend over sin

"Brothers,if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted." - Galatians 6:1

I had to do this today. It was not fun or exciting for me. He disagrees that he is sinning, and was hurt by it. My case is Biblical, his is not, pray for him to be convicted, and for the friendship, and for the men's group we are in. I do not want it torn apart over this.

The main thing is we can not approve of their sin. That is when we get into trouble. It is not our job to convict people. That is the work of the Holy Spirit of God.

Sorry.. I can't not pray that. Well its just your word and I know nothing about BOTH of you. To pray so and so is convicted.. Christ does not do this. And the holy Spirit of sin that the world does not know Jesus.. and righteousness and judgment because the god of this world is judged.

There is no condemnation to them in Christ Jesus. How am I living? And I don't mean just in that one area.. but in all. Am I walking in 1st cor 13 and the fruits of the spirit. Yes.. we can kinda tell about someones life based on what we SEE and HEAR! But.. thats not the heart. One can truly repent every night..yet all we see is sin in them. Yet the Father? Sees the heart.. He said.. man only sees the flesh..but God sees the heart and to many times we judge someone based on only seeing flesh. And did they repent like WE expect them to do? We are NO ONES God. God does not have Christian police

Not saying so and so was not sinning but.. can't pray that based on no one we know ever see or prayed with. Never do I pray Father convict them.. Father change me 1st. One day wondering about family and not doing all I could have to show JESUS..and will they all be saved? Seeing nothing but failure. He said "I saved you". As bad as my parents were.. He found me.

I didn't ask you to judge him with me. I don't care to get into the particulars, because I don't wish to start a debate thread. I understand it can look like I'm being judgmental from what I did choose to reveal, but without your witnessing the conversation we had, you don't know enough to rightly say what you just said to me. Either pray, or don't. But this isn't the place for your or anyone else's lecture to me.

What's funny about church discipline, or discipline in any way, is we don't like it. I mean from the standpoint of the one being disciplined. Churches divide over church discipline. People get mad when they are disciplined or when their friends are disciplined. They think it's mean.

However, what people fail to see is that discipline, either by the church or brother to brother, is an act of love: love for God (His glory), love for the church (purity), love for the sinner (repentance).

Next step if he refuses to repent over time? Bring a couple more, those aware of the sin, to confront him (Matt 18:15-17). This is the process Jesus instituted.

Thank you for loving your brother enough to call him out on His sin. His lack of repentance reveals his sinful heart. I trust that Holy Spirit will lead him back in due time.

I agree that we didn't get the particulars enough to know what is going on. However, I pray that both you and the person you mention will be convicted of sins, as we all need that. I also pray that the relationship will be restored.

If I may relate an experience where I was rebuked, there was a woman in church gave me a prophetic word of warning (non specific in regards what sin) that if i continued what I was doing, that I would face judgement.l I rebuked that as condemnation etc, thinking I was in the clear. WRONG!, the word was right on and I experienced some hardship that could have been avoided. You simply are trying to help. May your speech be seasoned with grace. God's word will not return void. Hopefully any error will be corrected but remember too, how patient God is.
