1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the Lord does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the Lord sees the heart."

God Almighty was rebuking the prophet Samuel for his spiritual shortsightedness. I wonder how many of us are guilty of this sin? I know I'm:).

Oh I know. Instead of thinking he or she is so important to The Lord. Our Creator made them and He has a plan for their lives, etc.

-"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psa 118:24)
-“The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” Job 33:4
-"I will put ligaments on you, place muscles on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you, and you will live. Then you will know that I am Yahweh." Eze 37:6

He has a plan for each one:
-“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jer 29:11
-“And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,” Rom 8:28

Thanks for the Aaronic blessing.

Was the Lord really rebuking Samuel? Or was He reminding Samuel about how He sees through people, into their hearts? Samuel was an ordinary human like all the rest of us, and had no special spiritual insight any more than you or me. It was only when God spoke prophetically to him that he knew what God was thinking, as in this case.

I don't think it is a sin to be a normal human person. We can't be blamed for not being able to see what God alone can see - the state of a person's heart. It is natural for us to look at things from the outward appearance, and that is why we need to be in touch with the Holy Spirit so He can show us how things really are so we are not deceived.
