Post Ratings given (vs received)

On your profile page, there's a summary of the ratings you've given and received for posts on the forums.

Because I'm rude and ungrateful, I've received a lot more than I have given, but it's interesting to see the distribution. I have given more ratings of certain types than I've received: namely Friendly and Useful. Although both are relatively rare, I must find the Useful rating... um... useful.

Looking the other way, the most lopsided is on Funny. I've received more than 10 times as many Funny ratings as I've given. My funny bone has high standards, it appears.

So... how do your ratings compare? Are you more likely to laugh than be laughed with (or at)? Are you more agreeable than agreed with? Are you more likeable than liking?

I see there's a Ratings I've Given and a Ratings I've Received, but I'm not really seeing a summary of each rating, as in X total Agrees, Y total Likes, etc. Just a report of this post got an Agree, this other post got a Like, etc. If the lazy summary I'm after does exist, please point me to it.

Well this is kinda interesting. I don't click a prayer rating until I've actually prayed for the person, and I've done many. I've never made a prayer request here myself yet I've received a handful of prayer ratings. Every single one of them was from someone who disagreed with me on some point or another and used the prayer rating as a sarcastic response. Kinda sad.

You'll find totals for ratings you've given and received on your Profile Page.

To get to your Profile Page click on your avatar then select 'Profile Page'.

Agrees and Likes are first and second for giving and receiving.

Unsurprisingly I don't get or give prayers.

Under the prior system there was only reps and they translated into reputation points when that was done away with the reps were turned into "likes". My non likes (non reps) have informative highest, followed by agree, then funny then drops way down for the rest of them. I tend to give out more than I get back as a lot of people don't bother with them.

I have 26 and have given 1 (prayers). Generally I receive 3-5x more than I give. But as Jesus said, it is better to receive to give, because if you don't like what you receive you can give it away.

If you give prayer ratings to the unreligious, they tend to think you are sarcastic or take offense, in my experience.

Most of the 74 I've received are because I've posted some awful news story about orphans burning to death or something, and I don't see it as directed at me, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's an honest reaction to the story.

But when you're having an argument with someone, and they whip out the prayer rating, I feel much like topher above does: "Every single one of them was from someone who disagreed with me on some point or another and used the prayer rating as a sarcastic response. Kinda sad."

It is the "Bless your heart"/"I'll pray for you" vibe. Meanspirited usage of it would fall afoul of the forum rules against goading with ratings, but how would you prove 'what was in someone's heart' when they poked the Prayers button?

Anyway, I bet fewer nonreligious people 'take offense' at it than you think. But yes, if it comes from certain posters whose conversational style I know and if it's being used as a goodbye judo-move after a long back and forth argument, I will likely read some malicious intent into it.

I have given far more ratings than I've received because when I was more active on CF, I enjoyed reading posts and rating them. Aside from "Like", my most given and received rating is "Friendly". My least received rating is "Useful", probably because I'm not that great with advice unless it's on certain topics.

Probably less that you aren't that good at advice and more along the lines that chances of posting to get that rating bump is a lot less than others. My 3 lowest ratings is Useful, Prayer, and Optimistic and they are a lot lower than my 3 highest ones (other than likes) by a factor of 20-40.

If I were in charge, there'd be no tally kept. It's fine to give a rating but I don't see why we need to keep tabs. Only purpose it could serve is possibly to hurt someone's feelings because they get fewer ratings than others.

I have given a more than received on three categories. I am baffled by the fact that I gave 1 praying though. I have never intentionally selected that one.

I think most folks don't really care much for likes/ratings these days as they are just numbers that can be ignored.
