How many people were immersed in Jesus in Jerusalem ? "few" found the narrow road (or gate) to LIFE...

How many refused to accept Jesus as Messiah, thus remaining in darkness ? "many" stayed on the wide (popular) road to destruction.
I choose to focus on what WAS completed. This was the root of the formation of His Church - prophesied for them for thousands of years prior to His incarnation.

How would an unbiased witness interpret those passages?

.
It depends on the person. Obviously - as is demonstrated in this very thread - there are different interpretations of those words. I can't speak for other people. Maybe it's best to ask what the Spirit has revealed to the Church for thousands of years?

Good if true, yes, what was completed - Yahuweh always completes what He Sends His Word to Accomplish.

But it seems there's a leaning towards something like eternal security or universalism,
which are contrary to His Word.... so a call for caution. A 'red flag' so to speak, to test everything to be sure it is in harmony with His Word, and not opposed to His Word.

There will never again be a generation like the one that witnessed Jesus' first advent on earth. If you follow that "story" throughout the Gospels - ISTM that they were given a prominent place in history.

Gotta get the Jews to forget the Old House of Moses and move into the New House of Jesus......

Zec 5:4
“I will send out the curse,” says the LORD of hosts;
“It shall enter the house of the thief And the house of the one who swears falsely by My name.
It shall remain in the midst of his house and consume it, with its timber and stones.

Matthew 23:
37 - “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!
38 Behold! the House of ye is being left desolate<2048>
Luke 13:
34 - “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!
35 Behold! the House of ye is being left desolate<2048>,

Revelation 18:19
And they cast dust upon their heads and cried out, lamenting and mourning, saying "woe! woe! the City, the great, in which are rich all the ones having the ships in the sea out of the preciousness of Her,
that to one hour She was desolated<2049>
============================
1Pe 2:5

you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Was the answer to the question in there somewhere ? I did not see it.
James 1:5 ~ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.

I'm not sure why you stripped away the identity given them in Scripture? That's a bit misleading to call them "Christians", because that's a modern term and this was fulfilled in the beginning of the early Church in the 1st Century (as I see it).

Ezekiel 37:1-6 ~
The Valley of Dry Bones
1 The hand of the Lord was on me, and He brought me out by His Spirit and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones.
2 He led me all around them. There were a great many of them on the surface of the valley, and they were very dry.
3 Then He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I replied, "Lord God , [only] You know."
4 He said to me, "Prophesy concerning these bones and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!
5 This is what the Lord God says to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you will live.

6 I will put tendons on you, make flesh grow on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you so that you come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord."

Ezekiel 37:21-23 ~
This is what the Lord God says: I am going to take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them into their own land.
22 I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel, and one king will rule over all of them. They will no longer be two nations and will no longer be divided into two kingdoms.
23 They will not defile themselves any more with their idols, their detestable things, and all their transgressions. I will save them from all their apostasies by which they sinned, and I will cleanse them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God.

Acts 2:1-14 ~
1 When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like that of a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were staying.
3 And tongues, like flames of fire that were divided, appeared to them and rested on each one of them.
4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech.
5 There were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout people from every nation under heaven.
6 When this sound occurred, the multitude came together and was confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
7 And they were astounded and amazed, saying, "Look, aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?
8 How is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language?
9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites; those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabs-we hear them speaking in our own languages the magnificent acts of God."

12 And they were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, "What could this be?"
13 But some sneered and said, "They're full of new wine!"

But Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: "Jewish people and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be known to you and pay attention to my words........
I was addressing the claim that when Bible prophecy says "Israel," it means "the Church." I was pointing out that this interpretation could not even possibly explain Ezekiel 36. This is, of course, true of many other prophecies as well.

The question was not answered - instead, as often happens, deflection was attempted.

It would have been better wisdom I think, to have answered the question instead of pretending ....

I don't see the trouble in Ezekiel's prophecy being reconciled with the history of the early Church as presented in the NT?

That is still an ambiguous claim (Israel meaning the Church) - because some people use that to dismiss the fact that the early church WAS Jewish and then the "two peoples of God" framework is employed (stripping away the glory of God's fulfillment and His nature).

I believe it's more appropriate to state that "Israel" = the faithful People of God. Those that have been set apart to represent Him. The ancient religious system failed at properly glorifying Him - so it was taken away.....destroyed....and now He dwells in the hearts of His faithful believers (forever). No human will take that throne away. No human High Priest will ever remove Jesus from His position as our High Priest.

ETA: The whole "two peoples of God" doctrine separates Jew from Gentile when Jesus had taken the two and formed one New Man.

“Abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility” (Eph. 2:15-16).

I fail to see how you can even find a problem with that. In Scripture, the name Israel had two meanings, sometimes it meant the entire twelve tribe nation. And other times it meant only the ten tribe northern sub-nation, which was also sometimes called Ephraim. Only the context can show which of these two meanings was intended.
I know...so in Ezekiel 36...what do you think he means...because 36 and 37 go together. Chapter divisions are for translation purposes.

I think the meaning is pretty plain from Ezekiel 37:15-17:

"Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: "For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions." Then take another stick and write on it, "For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions." Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand.' "

I mean.....seriously. What is even controversial - or even biased - about this?!?! Is this not just a fact - that the generation that lived along side Jesus were a unique generation.....having the words of the prophets lived out right in front of them?

Today this is true also (the words of Jesus and the prophets happening all over the world, all around us) .... Including the wide spread deception of the leaders of the governments, and the falling away, and the false teachers, and the lie being called truth while the truth is called a lie ..... and "we all (Ekklesia) are being led like sheep to the slaughter daily" ....

You must be missing my point.

We don't have Jesus walking our streets in human form. I can't go out to the nearby mountain and stand beside Him and listen to His teaching. I can't witness His death on the cross and be one of the people that He stayed with for 40 days after His resurrection. I don't have the entire OT memorized as a lot of Jewish men did.....but to see all that they'd learned and anticipated about their Messiah.....and to hear about (or witness) His miracles....and see everything unfold right before their very eyes? That was a unique generation.
