I'm not sure why you stripped away the identity given them in Scripture? That's a bit misleading to call them "Christians", because that's a modern term and this was fulfilled in the beginning of the early Church in the 1st Century (as I see it).
Ezekiel 37:1-6 ~
The Valley of Dry Bones

But Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them: "Jewish men and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be known to you and pay attention to my words........
Excellent!

One of my favorite events in the Bible and one in which I have a very large study folder on, tying it into the Apostles and 2 witnesses of Revelation.
[I may start a thread on it:]

You can find various translation of Ezek 37 here:

Ezekiel 37 WEB

Ezekiel 37:
1The hand of Yahweh was on me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Yahweh, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2He caused me to pass by them all around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry. 3He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Lord Yahweh, you know. 4Again he said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, you dry bones, hear the word of Yahweh. 5Thus says the Lord Yahweh to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 6I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
[John 20:22 Revelation 11:11]

7So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8I saw, and, behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.
9Then he said to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Come from the four winds[Matthew 24:31 Revelation 7:1] breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live. 10So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
[Luke 2:34 Acts 1:8 Revelation 11:11]

11Then he said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.
12Therefore prophesy, and tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.
[Matthew 27:62]
=====================================
Luke 2:34

And Simon blesses them and said toward Mariam His mother,
"behold! this-One is set/lying into a Fall and Resurrection/standing-up<386> of many in the Israel, and into a Sign being spoken against"

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,[Acts 2]
and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth/land.”

Revelation 11:
11 And after the three days and half days, a breath of life out of the God entered in them and they stand upon their feet
and great fear falls upon the ones observing them.
12 And they hear a Voice great out of the Heaven saying to them "ascend ye here!"
And they ascended into the heaven in the cloud...

Resurrection in Ezekiel 37:1-14, Can These Bones Live? |

The Meaning of the Dry Bones
The dry bones represented the whole house of Israel.
Metaphorically speaking, Israel’s bones were dry. Their
hope was lost. They were cut off from God who is the
hope of Israel, (Acts 28:14; Col. 1:27).

Israel receives life when they return to God in repentance,
and are reunited in his presence. It is then that he would
open up their graves, and bring them into the land of Israel.

While this prophecy may no doubt have served to give
the captives hope, the scope transcended their physical
captivity and deliverance to something of much weightier
importance.

We commented in other studies on the work and role of
the Holy Spirit and Israel’s new birth mentioned in the
last chapter, (36:24-28). This sets the time of the true
fulfillment beyond the ancient history of the nation to
the time of the apostles, (John 3:7).

The fulfillment begins with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
on Pentecost in fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy, (2:28-30,
Acts 2:16-20 ).

Speaking of their future restoration to God through Christ,
Isaiah prophesies, “Your dead shall live, together with my
dead body they shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell
in the dust, for your dew is like the dew of herbs, and the
earth shall cast out the dead. (Isaiah 26:19)

Like the dew that falls upon the earth, providing moisture
to seeds that sprout and grow, God is the dew of Israel,
causing them to rise from the dust, a figurative term
denoting their unredeemed fallen state.

Daniel says the prophecy of Israel’s resurrection takes place
in the time of the end, Daniel 12:1-4. Compare 12:1 and
Matthew 24:21 Israel’s resurrection follows the great
tribulation spoken of as the time of travail upon a woman,
with child,

We have shown the land promise being fulfilled metaphorically
in Christ. It does not refer to the geographical Palestine.

Israel’s hope for resurrection is carried through the New
Testament, (John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:14, 15; 26:6-8;
Romans 13:11, 12; 2 Cor. 5:5).

Israel’s graves are opened when God delivers them from
the bondage of sin to which they were held captive through
the law. (Romans 7:4-6; 10:1-4)

The Valley of Dry Bones and the Resurrection of the Dead - TheTorah.com

The scene of a valley full of dry bones, resurrected before the mental eyes of the prophet Ezekiel (Ezek 37:1-14), is one of the most enigmatic apparitions experienced by this prophet, who is famous for his other unusual visions.

The vision begins when God sets Ezekiel down in a valley full of bones (vv. 1-2) and asks Ezekiel if they can be brought back to life, to which Ezekiel responds that only God knows that (v.3). God then tells Ezekiel to speak this prophecy over the bones (vv. 4-6):.....

Resurrection as a Core Belief in the 2nd Century B.C.E.

Pseudo-Ezekiel is therefore the most ancient witness to the view that the Vision of the Dry Bones speaks of resurrection, and perhaps for the understanding of Isaiah 26:19 as speaking of resurrection.
When we read this text in tandem with the contemporary biblical text, Daniel 12, we can see that by the second century B.C.E., the idea that in the future, individual Israelites would be resurrected—whether all of them or only the pious ones—was already taking a firm hold as a core belief among at least certain groups of Jews.

You shall live. This is resurrection imagery used to speak about the reconstitution and restoration of the people of God, the end of their judgment and exile. ~ Richard Beck: Dry Bones, You Shall Live: Preterism and the Resurrection of the Dead (2015)

From your link above.

"You shall live. This is resurrection imagery used to speak about the reconstitution and restoration of the people of God, the end of their judgment and exile.

Again, while certain Pauline texts remain a sticking point, I do believe a preterist case could be made concerning the resurrection of the dead. Specifically, if we take a cue from the OT the resurrection refers to the end of exile in the declaration of God’s Kingdom Come, in the proclamation of God’s Jubilee and the forgiveness of sins in the restoration of Israel.

The resurrection of the dead is God breathing life back into the dead body of God’s People.

Pentecost is the resurrection of the dead.

Pentecost is the fulfillment of Ezekiel’s prophecy, when the Spirit of God breathed life back into the deadness of Creation. Just as God did at the very beginning. New Creation. Re-creation and resurrection.

Dry bones made to live again."

The only way to make the above work is by ignoring Matthew 12:42, and John 5:27-30, and 2 Timothy 4:1, and Revelation 11:18.

How so? I believe the issue is HOW a person is interpreting the word "resurrection".

Jesus was breathing SPIRITUAL life into the early believers at Pentecost. They were "dead" spiritually - but, through Christ, they LIVE (is that truly controversial language? I thought most Christian churches use similar language to express that as being "born again in Christ" or "new life in Christ"....."entering the Kingdom of God"...."being raised with Him"?).

The original New Testament Church - that has made NO adjustments to their tradition or theology - has no trouble taking the FULL account of Scripture into their interpretations. They reconcile ALL Scripture.

Quoting from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America ~
Christ, risen from the dead, cracks the fortress of death and takes "captivity captive" (Psalm 67:19). All the limitations of our createdness are torn asunder. Death is swallowed up in victory and life is liberated. "For as by a man came death, by a man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive" (I Corinthians 15:21-22). Pascha is the dawn of the new and unending day. The Resurrection constitutes the most radical and decisive deliverance of humankind.

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the fundamental truth and absolute fact of the Christian faith. It is the central experience and essential kerygma of the Church. It confirms the authenticity of Christ's remarkable earthly life and vindicates the truth of His teaching. It seals all His redemptive work: His life, the model of a holy life; His compelling and unique teaching; His extraordinary works; and His awesome, life-creating death. Christ's Resurrection is the guarantee of our salvation. Together with His Ascension it brings to perfection God's union with us for all eternity.

The Resurrection made possible the miracle of the Church, which in every age and generation proclaims and affirms "God's plan for the universe, the ultimate divinization of man and the created order." The profound experience of and the unshakable belief in the risen Lord enabled the Apostles to evangelize the world and empowered the Church to overcome paganism. The Resurrection discloses the indestructible power and inscrutable wisdom of God. It disposes of the illusory myths and belief systems by which people, bereft of divine knowledge, strain to affirm the meaning and purpose of their existence. Christ, risen and glorified, releases humanity from the delusions of idolatry. In Him grave-bound humanity discovers and is filled with incomparable hope. The Resurrection bestows illumination, energizes souls, brings forgiveness, transfigures lifes, creates saints, and gives joy.

The Resurrection has not yet abolished the reality of death. But it has revealed its powerlessness (Hebrews 2:14-15). We continue to die as a result of the Fall. Our bodies decay and fall away. "God allows death to exist but turns it against corruption and its cause, sin, and sets a boundary both to corruption and sin." Thus, physical death does not destroy our life of communion with God. Rather, we move from death to life - from this fallen world to God's reign. ~ Great and Holy Pascha - Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America

Same song and dance...............

I put up Matthew 12 and Luke 11 for your viewing pleasure.......

Matt 12 and Luke 11 "QUEEN OF SOUTH AND NINEVITES" JUDGING GENERATION

Both Matthew and Luke mention this event.
I thought it might be interesting to look more closely at these "end time" verses.

450. anistemi from 303 and 2476;
to stand up (literal or figurative, transitive or intransitive):--arise, lift up, raise up (again), rise (again), stand up(-right).
303. ana a primary preposition and adverb;
properly, up; but (by extension) used (distributively) severally, or (locally) at (etc.)
2476. histemi a prolonged form of a primary stao stah'-o (of the same meaning, and used for it in certain tenses);
to stand (transitively or intransitively),

Matthew 12
34
Offspring of vipers! How can you who are evil speak good things? For from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man from a good treasure brings good things, and an evil man from evil treasure brings evil things. 36 For I say to you that every idle word that people will speak, they will give an answer for it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned." 38 Then some of the Scribes and Pharisees responded and they were saying to him, "Teacher we wish to see a sign from you." 39 But he answered and said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign and a sign will not be given to it except the sign of Jonah the Prophet. 40 For just as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, thus The Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

41 `Men Ninevites shall be standing up<450> in the judging with this generation and they shall be condemning it,
That they repent<3340> into the proclamation of Jonah and behold! more of Jonah here.

Luke 11:
27
And while he was speaking these things, a woman raised her voice from the crowd and she said to him, "Blessing to the womb that carried you and to the breasts that suckled you." 28 He said to her, "Blessings to those who have heard the word of God and keep it."
29 And when the crowds were assembling he began to say, "This wicked generation seeks for a sign and a sign will not be given to it except the sign of Jonah the Prophet." 30 "For just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites thus also the Son of the Man shall be to this generation."
31 "The Queen of The South shall stand in judgment with the people of this generation, and she shall condemn them, for she came from the far side of the land that she might hear the wisdom of Solomon and behold, he who is greater than Solomon is here."

32 'Men, Ninevites shall be standing-up<450> in the judging with this generation, and shall be condemning<2632 it,
That they repent<3340> at the proclamation of Jonah and behold! greater/more<4119> of Jonah here

There're a couple a very important phrases in Matthew 12:42 (I'm focusing on the passages you gave one at a time) that should NOT be ignored (it ALL fits very nicely with the beliefs of the Orthodox church):

Matthew 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

"with this generation" and "One greater than Solomon IS here". This is not about the final judgement and the final resurrection. This is about how the life of Jesus (in His first advent) proved all the words of the prophets.....all the testimonies of the saints to be TRUE. Truth = LIFE.

Maybe one of the most tragic things to have happened to Christianity was the schism of 1054 - when the church became separated (now there's little to no unity of beliefs between Christian churches).
Yahuweh (The Creator) directed everything very well, I think.

I'm not so sure that *everything* is orchestrated by Him (but that's a whole other thread - and will be the last I mention that tangent in this thread).

Sadly yes.
But perhaps it was somehow God's doing in some ways? [Luke 12:51]

There is even division within the religion of OC Judaism today, and has been since the 1st century when Jesus came to them...........

Ezekiel 38:21 Then will I call against him every terror, declareth My Lord Yahweh.
The sword of every man against his brother shall be;
[Matthew 10:34/Revelation 6:4]

Matthew 10:34
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth.
I did not come to bring peace but a sword.

Luke 12:51
Ye are supposing that Peace I came to give in the land. Nay! I am saying to ye, but rather division

John 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of Him.
John 9:16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them.
John 10:19
Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings.

1 Corinthians 11:18
For foremost indeed of coming together ye in *the assembly I am hearing schisms/scismata <4978> in ye to be firstly, and part some I am believing it.
======================================
Some of the best discussions I got into years ago were those concerning the Schism..........
There were times it got pretty "tense"..........
Maybe you remember some of these?

Great Schism and effect on Christianity and Theology
Jan 28, 2008

Hi. I didn't post links and those interested in this subject can just do a google search.

I had never really looked into the Great Schism between the Orthodox and Roman church and would like to ask was this actually benficial to Christianity as a whole and could this have also led to an even greater Reformation in the centuries after that? There may be a lot of Christians unaware of this rather large milstone in Christian history and I myself never realized how hugh this really was.

Where would Christianity be today if this event had not happened. Let's try to keep this thread civil and informative, no bashing of either these 2 denominations or any other. Thanks and peace

Results 1 - 10 of about 43,300 for GreatSchism of 1054.

Following the rule of Charlemagne, Christianity spread throughout Europe which served as a unifying force for the continent. This was in part due to the Great Schism of 1054 where two competing religious authorities, Pope Leo IX of the Roman Catholic Church, and Patriarch Michael I of the Eastern Orthodox faith, excommunicated each other in a dispute over authority..............

The major event that is often cited as the separation of the East and West is the Great Schism of 1054. Actually at the time it was seen as simply another temporary schism between the two regions. But this one never resolved as the two Churches drifted farther apart. Also, though the date seems to be an easy reference, it must be seen as wider political and theological context which lead to the division.............

The cardinal excommunicated the patriarch who, in turn, excommunicated the cardinal. The main point of contention was the use of leavened bread during the celebration of Mass, according to MacMillan Publishing's

What would it take for Orthodoxs to come under Pope

Asinner said: . . . . Or what would it take for the Pope to come back to the Faith where he is "first among equals"?
Although we share 1000 years, we have also been estranged for another 1000. We are very different. You are closer to Catholicism, as a Protestant, than is the Orthodox Church. Your separation is not as wide.
The Pope would renounce his Roman Catholicism and become Orthodox. There is nothing that would cause the Church as a whole to join with him.

There are such things as uniate churches, which are basically Byzantine Catholic churches and the like, but they are no longer Orthodox.

Jesus was breathing SPIRITUAL life into the early believers at Pentecost. They were "dead" spiritually
The Apostles and Ekklesia who were already born again were not "dead" spiritually.
Perhaps others who came to Jesus on /at/ Pentecost are who you are referring to ?

One John 5:27 commentary:

Thomas Coke Commentary on the Holy Bible
John 5:27. And hath given him authority, &c.— This may refer not only to the future and final judgment upon the sons of men, but also to the inflicting of temporal judgments; and possibly our Lord had the destruction of Jerusalem more particularly in his eye,—an exercise of judgment which he constantly ascribed to Himself. See Philippians 2:9; Philippians 2:11 and the next note.

Mat 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
Mat 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

Joh 5:27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
Joh 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
Joh 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Joh 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

2Ti 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Perhaps others who came to Jesus on /at/ Pentecost are who you are referring to ?
Jesus brought all out of the exile from sin and death by His death, resurrection, and ascension......but I believe Isaiah 37 is especially prophesying about these (the generation that walked beside Him - heard His teachings - and witnessed His death and resurrection). The baptism of fire wasn't fulfilled until this event in history:

Acts 2:22-42 ~"People of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.
23 Though He was delivered up according to God's determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.
24 God raised Him up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
25 For David says of Him: I saw the Lord ever before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh will rest in hope,
27 because You will not leave my soul in Hades, or allow Your Holy One to see decay.
28 You have revealed the paths of life to me; You will fill me with gladness in Your presence.
29 "Brothers and sisters, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
30 Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn an oath to him to seat one of his descendants on his throne.
31 Seeing this in advance, he spoke concerning the resurrection of the Messiah: He was not left in Hades, and His flesh did not experience decay.
32 "God has resurrected this Jesus. We are all witnesses of this.
33 Therefore, since He has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, He has poured out what you both see and hear.
34 For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says: The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at My right hand
35 until I make Your enemies Your footstool.'
36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!"

Forgiveness through the Messiah
37 When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: "Brothers, what must we do?"
38 "Repent," Peter said to them, "and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call."
40 And with many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, "Be saved from this corrupt generation!"

A Generous and Growing Church
41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayers

How many people were immersed in Jesus in Jerusalem ? "few" found the narrow road (or gate) to LIFE...

How many refused to accept Jesus as Messiah, thus remaining in darkness ? "many" stayed on the wide (popular) road to destruction.

During the 1st century (there was a whole nexus of events - not all occurring in 70 A.D - that led up to the full exile and freedom from sin/death) - but most likely not in the way in which you interpret those passages.

How would an unbiased witness interpret those passages?
