I know this is somewhat of a dumb question, but I'm fairly new to the faith and I'm still figuring things out. My question is; how should I feel about reading/writing/watching works with aliens in them? Does entertaining the thought of another species with an advanced society insult God? I mean, it does say that humans are indeed the most advanced of His creations. But then again, wouldn't that also mean that any personification of other species, or creating our own is as well? I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, I just seriously would like to know, as sci-fi is one of my favorite genres, and I want to be sure I'm not sinning in enjoying it. Thanks in advance.

It's my favorite movie of all time. I think the first is overrated, frankly - good, but kind of a slog at time. Aliens is just such a great film, though. A bunch of fun characters, great personalities, great setup, explores the lore in interesting ways, and I loved the dynamic with Ripley and Newt.

...oh, wait. Nevermind.

There is nothing wrong with fiction. Science or otherwise. As you point out Fairy tales and many allegories also have fictional characters of non human species speaking and interacting like human beings. They tell a story and if the story is worth telling then there is nothing wrong with it, and if the story is not worth telling then it is bad regardless of how the characters are portrayed.

To my knowledge the Bible neither confirms nor denies life on other planets. Since angels and demons are created beings maybe they are aliens of sorts. I have more reservations watching demonic horror films than movies about aliens.

Personally, I don't see any good reason why I should "pass" on taking in the next Star Wars movie ... but I'm sure someone, somewhere will gripe about it.

On the other hand, I notice you said you're wondering about reading/writing/watching works with aliens in them? So.................do you write, actively, about aliens? Are we talking fiction or speculative science?

Enjoy the shows and keep in mind the secular world view behind the movies.

On a side note, many people believe there are aliens in the universe, including Christians. My wife made an interesting observation. She asked the question, "If God created aliens on other planets, what happens to them when he 'rolls up the universe like a scroll"?"

Isa_34:4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying sci-fi, unless God said not to. Since I came to Christ it's been an adventure getting to know Who He is (and still learning 5 years later) and what He says I should listen to and what I shouldn't. Same goes with some shows I used to watch, I can't watch anymore. God's work in me has changed me to be more like His character, I hope that makes sense.
God created us in His image. That means we already share His likeness, but He has left us a choice to choose Him over the world and anything that would cause Him to be less than 1st in our lives.
I also agree with what others say about keeping in mind the secular world views, guard your heart against these views and keeping God's values is vital. Knowing God will keep you from falling away.

Scripture is silent on the matter of extraterrestrial life. I don't think there's any reason to be concerned.

Or we assume the characters and events in the Bible did not involve extraterrestrials?

The Lord's word teaches us there are "aliens" ... angels ... good ones and bad ones.

Bad angels (demons) have the ability to appear in many different ways.

So if watching science fiction is helping for you to believe outside that framework then probably not wise to watch it.

There is a series on called Ancient Aliens that I watch and they present "aliens" as other life forms from out in the cosmos somewhere that visit/visited our planet ... do I believe that? No.

Why do I watch it? Because they show ancient remnants (architecture) of previous civilizations and seeing those things are interesting to me.

Never assume anything.
Exactly. Never assume the Biblical narrative is free of extra-terrestrial influence. Man is talking about making hybrids of ourselves to be able to live in harmony with the conditions on other planets. Is not putting a spirit into flesh a similar process, whether it is of God or man?

Fairy tales, moralistic stories, science fiction all base their stories on good vs evil. The same thing the Bible promotes.

Of the ones I've watched ... Not all of them do.
