The battle between good and evil. Simply put, that is what the Bible is all about. The battle lines are drawn in the Garden of Eden. I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed. Our Heavenly Father was pronouncing sentence on Satan. The war between good and evil began there, and it is highlighted throughout the Bible with battle after battle pitting the evil seed against the good Seed. Satan had to stop the good Seed from coming to fruition. In other words, the Devil had to stop Jesus Christ from being born, because he knew it meant his destruction if it came to pass.

Of course, that Divine birth did take place and now our Beloved holds the keys between death and hell. Confused? Don't be, it's simple really. Satan had to stop Christ from being born and his attempts at making that happen are documented in many books of the Bible. This might be easier to understand with examples; let us look at Satan's 2nd attempt to destroy Jesus Christ, the good Seed. Cain killed his brother, Abel. Satan was successful in destroying the good Seed when Cain did this, and Seth had to be born to replace Abel. The Apostle John puts it this way:

Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. 1 John 3:12

Cain's works were evil and Abel's works were good. Got it? There are numerous, and I mean numerous examples of the Devil trying to destroy the righteous Seed line of Christ. Let me give you one more example. The righteous Seed line of Christ, through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was on shaky ground so our Father sent It to Egypt where It could recoup, refresh and replenish Itself for over 400 years. It worked, and we find Moses standing at the Red Sea with over one and a half million. Pharaoh was about to slaughter every last one of them until our Father turned the tables on him and killed all the Egyptians.

We all know the story, but if Pharaoh had been successful the righteous Seed line of Christ would have been gone. Better said, the rightful Owner of the keys to death and hell would have stayed with Satan. What? Yes, when our Beloved went on the cross for us, He took those keys from Satan, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the Devil. And that's what the Holy Bible is all about.

Of course, the Bible is about much more than that, instructions in righteousness, for instance. And I don't believe in long posts, so I'll just leave it at that. Thanks for listening. James.

I prefer to see the Bible as the story of God, how he relates to us, how we can understand him, how we can relate to him on a personal and community level. Of course also as a document on history and instruction. Simply seeing it as a story of duality gives too much power to the dark or "evil" side and IMO starts into Gnostic territory.

It seems to me that you’re viewing the Bible from the perspective of someone reading a science fiction series.

What, there was no synopsis on the back of the book? Sounds like Zondervan needs to hire better talent in its marketing department.

WHAT IS THE BIBLE ALL ABOUT?

All humans have an inherited sin nature.
God will not allow anyone with a sin nature into heaven.
Therefore, all humans must be separated from Him (in hell).
God is love.
So, He devised a way (that satisfied Him) to save some.
Sorry, but His Plan of Salvation is not obvious to all (it is somewhat hidden).

restoration of our communion with the Creator.
I would just offer that with Jesus we have more and better than what Adam and Eve lost.

We are being conformed to the image of Jesus who can not sin (Romans 8:29, 1 John 4:17, Hebrews 12:4-14). This was not the case for Adam and Eve.

More and better than fighting evil is how God in us has us discovering how to live His word so better than we can try to get ourselves to live. God is changing us to become and to love like His Son Jesus . . . more and better as we mature.

pitting the evil seed against the good Seed

Yes, I agree. I think this is a great perspective to have as it directs our focus onto what exactly we are to be about, i.e., perpetuating His Seed...anything else is fading away. The Bible is all about the eternal breaking in to (and out of) the temporal...dispelling the darkness.

For me the Bible is God communicating with mankind to show us His plan of salvation, including the cause of man's sinfulness and why we need to be saved, the historical development of Him working with mankind to bring the development to the point where the time was right for Jesus to come and show us the true nature of God, and to die on the cross and be resurrected from the dead. Then there is the history of how the Holy Spirit gave birth to the church and its development in the first century, and the continuance of the teaching of Jesus to New Covenant believers through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through the Apostles, then the account of what is going to happen at the close of mankind's history.

The whole point is for the Holy Spirit to work to get as many people out of hell as possible and into the kingdom of God.

The Bible is about God, by God.
It is the revelation of God's character, will, works and plan for his creation.

While the Bible does talk about a spiritual war, God is ultimately in control, God had made a major blow against the enemy at the cross, and God is going to win in the spiritual battle in the End. So what is the Bible really all about? The Bible is all about Jesus and how we can have forgiveness and salvation (eternal life) through Him.

"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." (John 5:39).

It's about having a relationship with God (Who is triune).
Jesus brings us into a right relationship with the fulness of the Godhead (i.e. the Father, the Son [Jesus], and the Holy Ghost). The Bible is a guide to help us to walk by faith with God. It is a guide on how to properly love God and love others in our walk with God. God helps us to love Him, and others by giving us many commands to obey as a part of the faith. For Jesus says if you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). Most just want to love Jesus their own way. But Jesus says we have to keep His commandments if we truly love Him. So I see the Bible as being like an instruction manual on how to walk with GOD and in obeying Him out of proper love for Him, and others. The Bible helps me to truly know GOD and His love. For God is love.

Thanks to everyone for your comments, and I agree with almost all of them. The Holy Bible truly is about our Heavenly Father's faithfulness, His love for us and the truly great sacrifice His Son made for us. However, if you want to, you can read it as a great novel about that love and sacrifice. For instance, Athaliah killing all the seed royal or Esau's assault on Jacob can make for juicy chapters. Thanks for your interest. James.

I think it is mostly about righteousness, because eternal life is promised for righteous and I think Bible is excellent teaching about righteousness.

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Mat. 25:46

The majority of the bible is about The God of Israel. About his chosen nation, and other nations that come in direct contact with them.
Hey Marine, your'e right. But what were we chosen for? To bring forth the chosen Seed line of Christ. Also, and few realize this, we were not chosen to be pampered, just the opposite, as the Bible scriptures and human history shows us.

Hey Marine, your'e right. But what were we chosen for? To bring forth the chosen Seed line of Christ. Also, and few realize this, we were not chosen to be pampered, just the opposite, as the Bible scriptures and human history shows us.

For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. Jeremiah 33:14 (KJV)
-

The promises to Abram was two-fold.
The promise of grace everyone knows,
but the promise of race people forget about.

The spiritual promises—the promises of the
“one seed,” Christ, and of salvation through
Him—the Bible calls the scepter.

The material and national promises relating to many nations, national wealth, prosperity and power, and possession of the Holy Land, the Bible calls the birthright.

“By myself have I sworn, saith the [Eternal], for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies.

Both the birthright and the scepter were re-promised by the Eternal to Abraham and Isaac
and to Jacob, but then split.

The sceptre shall not depart from Judah …”
(Gen 49:10). But the birthright was Joseph’s”
(1 Chronicles 5:2).

"And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession” (Genesis 48:2-4).

These promises are of multiple seed—a multitude of people—and possession of the Promised Land.

This birthright was not to be inherited by all the tribes of Israel! It was not given to the Jews!

The name Israel was to be indelibly stamped on Ephraim and Manasseh! "and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth”
-

We would also have to study the promises
given to King Davids Sons over Israel.
