I got up bright and early and met 2 other friends and took a cab to Boston Logan airport. We were headed to Cabo San Lucas Mexico with a stop in Dallas.

I vividly remember after we took off and were flying over NYC the pilot spoke over the intercom “look out the left side windows and see Manhattan on this bright sunny morning”

As the flight progressed and we neared Dallas we noticed a commotion near the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] pit and the stewardesses looked concerned. They brought the plane down and all we could see were lines of planes. No one could get a cell signal until one person finally did and said loudly “the US is under attack”. It was one of those moments that sear in your memory.

I flew American Airlines and my flight left a little earlier that than American flight 11.
I sometimes wonder if I saw the hijackers that morning or that they could have chosen my flight.

Thank God you were not on that fated flight! I was here at home. Not paying attention. Kind of checking up on the news and turned around and saw the television. I woke my husband up and told him we were being attacked. I was in shock I think. I kept thinking that this was surely not what I thought it was unfolding before my eyes.

At work, one of my coworkers was on the phone with a business partner who screamed in shock because he worked near and saw the plane hit the Pentagon. We were glued to our monitors and TV.

Amazing how we all shared that moment in time. I am watching a special on 9 11 and still I cannot fathom how it must of been for those who jumped. Their choice was the horrific heat and flames or death from the fall.

Lord have mercy. I get emotional every 9 11

Such a horrifically evil act.

I was picking my son up from school to go with him to my parents. When I got to the school, the teachers looked nervous and had their radios playing the news. When I got to my parent's house, I watched things unfold on their TV. It was an eerie feeling--a "look over your shoulder" kind of feeling. I felt so bad for the people in that situation. It was almost unbearable to watch.

I was working at a Dollar Tree store. No TV's, no radios, so the first that we knew about it was when customers came in and told us about it.

I also belonged to a National online quilting group led by Alex Anderson.
Within days we all got together online, organized ourselves into regional groups, and began making comfort quilts for the men and women who served in the Fire and Rescue crews that day.

One of our group members volunteered to drive cross country picking up those quilts, and delivering them to Fire and Rescue teams in New York.
We also made a quilt for the mayor of New York, The President, and a special one to hang in the Pentagon.
That was the first in a series of comfort quilts that our online quilters group made for those who suffered in hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, etc. all across America.

I was hung over in beautiful downtown El Cajon, CA. I sat down and watched TV all day and drank more. I had been separated from the USAF since 1980. I was ready to re-enlist.

I was in junior high, in gym class. We heard, somehow, in class that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center. I thought it was a joke. A lot of us did. We went back to class, turned on a TV, and watched in horror and disbelief. There was still hope, I think, that a lot more people could be saved before the towers crumpled like they were made of dry sand. It was horrible, and the weirdest thing I have ever seen.

After being landing in Dallas we took a young guy we had met from the hotel under our wing who had just enlisted in the Army. We ran cover for him at the bar by buying his drinks because he was not of age. We got good and drunk. As a Army guy myself I knew that this young kid might soon be in a combat zone.

I wonder how he made out.

It was late evening here when the news broke. I had got home late - I had been working that evening - and was eating my dinner on my own in front of the TV (my mum worked night shift, my dad and brother were already in bed). The news cut in on the end of The West Wing and just kept coming... I sat in front of the TV until about 5 in the morning in horror.

I was a homeschooled 9 year old doing homework at my desk.

We had just returned from our family vacation in New York City a couple days earlier, during which we rode the ferry to the Statue of Liberty, went up to the top of the Empire State Building and bought souvenir t-shirts with the Trade Towers on them from a little souvenir shop. I remember there was a ride in the Empire State Building we went on that was called Sky Ride and I'm pretty sure part of it was supposed to be like you were in a plane heading toward the Trade Towers and swerving away at the last moment...

My little brother had an infection and was crying and throwing up during our whole vacation so we actually cut it short and went back home. Otherwise we would have been there even closer to the actual day.

Anyway... Back to where I was. I was at my desk doing schoolwork and the phone rang so our mom went to pick it up. Next thing we know she's turning on the television and I'm thinking "Mom's watching television when she's supposed to be teaching us? That's kind of weird." I went to the living room and was very surprised to see the Trade Towers in the news - which were pretty much the background of our entire vacation. I was even more shocked and surprised to see a plane flying through one of them. My mom began praying out loud for God's mercy when people started showing up at the windows and jumping. We watched the whole thing - from the first plane hitting to the collapse of the second building, along with the other Trade Tower building that collapsed randomly. We all noticed it looked like the first building was going to collapse just before it actually did, and I knew there was no way all those people in the windows and on the ground got away in time... It was, honestly, very traumatic for me. I was physically shaking, but tried to control it so my mom wouldn't notice.

The phone call was one of our relatives making sure weren't flying to New York City for vacation and that we hadn't left that day. Other friends and relatives called throughout the day to check up on us and make sure we were alright.

For probably ten years I had recurring nightmares about being outside in our yard and suddenly hearing a roar like a building falling and thousands of screams echoing across the hills. I would hide myself in a corner and cover my ears until it went away, unless I woke up first.

It's weird to experience some of the residual effects of 9/11 without being able to call yourself a "survivor". But I think there are a lot of 20-something people who were shaped by that event and may explain some of the Millennial stereotypes - looking back to the past instead of the present, very social and placing friendships very high in priorities, and not having much respect for governments or authorities in general.

I remember that sky ride. And the swerving plane. And was in NYC not long before the attacks, too. Me, my mom, sister, and brother took that same ride. I grew up in New Jersey, so we'd go back to the city to visit a lot.

Yes, it was actually a very fun ride, but I doubt they'd ever show it again. My poor mom couldn't go in because of my brother screaming and crying, so she waited outside while a random lady gave her a lecture about poor parenting... ^_^

We stayed at a campground in Northern New Jersey and drove into the city each day. Our campground was a mess, though... Trash all over the ground. As kids, though, it was kind of fun to see what "treasures' you could find like spilled boxes of matches and flashlight bulbs and half-buried cassette tapes. It was a mess! ^_^

Crazy story. Glad you were okay.
I was at home in bed, on vacation. My sister calls me and asks, "Are you watching this?" I turn on the TV to see both Towers on fire. Not really knowing what was happening, I just watched. Then the first Tower collapsed. I said, "Did the building just fall down?" I was glued to the TV the entire. I found out later that my office was shut down because I worked in a federal building at the time.
Never forget!!!

Ah, but for the other side... Where were you when Osama Bin Laden was declared dead?

I was in my college dorm room in Chicago with my roommate who was watching his favorite baseball team live on his laptop. Suddenly they interrupted the game to make the announcement and the whole stadium broke into cheers. My roommate and I didn't really cheer along, but we were happy that justice finally caught up with him. I did feel weird about being happy about someone's death no matter how evil he was...
